Wrapped in new blue swaddling cloth, the red egg shined in the sunlight. Or at least, part of it did, as Fumei tried to hide the egg.
"B'Elanna, come on! I just came back from school!" Cried the teenager when they finally got into a not-so-public, and somewhat darker street alley. As the long haired teenager put down her backpack, she unwrapped her unruly egg.
But B'Elanna seemed to have other ideas as she tried to fly away, as if trying to enjoy the new fresh air.
"Wait, geez, I just wanted to adjust it so your wings wouldn't get caught anymore!"
B'Elanna buzzed around with a free air, her circlet shining in the darker alley.
"Well, it's not like I want to cover you up, I just want to make sure you don't crack or anything. Like when we were in class!"
Bzz. B'Elanna seemed to nod and hovered ever closer to Fumei, who sighed in relief when the egg decided to listen.

"How are your eyes fairing now? Do they still cause you pain?"
Piero's voice was gentle as he held Pasayo close to his frame, one of his hands resting against her forehead in an attempt to help shield the bright eyes from the beaming down of the sun. It was a futile gesture as no matter the amount of light blocked the daylight was still incredibly painful to the child Ashe's eyes. Even with her hands over her eyes they still stung, though not nearly as fierce as it had been when she first stepped out from the office.
"Oh dear. It looks like you are unable to stand the light of day for some reason or another. Please forgive this foolish man for bringing you outside without testing this first."
"Please do not trouble yourself Master, neither of us knew what was going to happen. Plus it only stings a little and it is helping to have my eyes covered like this. I am not hurting so much anymore."
The little girl was doing her best to reassure her Master that she was okay, which was slowly becoming more and true since Piero had started into a walk towards areas that were visibly much darker than the open street, and as they rounded a corner Pasayo thumped hard against Piero's chest thanks to a sudden stop. She had to uncover her face to see the reason, and she drew in a deep breath as her eyes found the source.
An egg, nearby. One that was so familiar...

"Back into the swaddling cloth now..." And as Fumei wrapped B'Elanna up, the buzzing suddenly returned with a vibrational energy that was much too much for Fumei to hold onto.
"B-E-e-e-e-ela--a-a-aaaa~-ana!"
And with that, the egg flew out of it's obedient mood and made a run, or flight, home. Or at least towards its new target.
Fumei whipped around, trying to trace the path her egg had decided to escape to next.
"HE-- hey..." Fumei blinked, when B'Elanna decided to buzz about a new sort of company that was not a teenage boy with a burden on his shoulders, but a man with a new bundle in his arms.
B'Elanna buzzed about Pasayo and Piero with new, excited and gleeful curiousity eminating from her shell, hyperactive vibration mode on to show it. Dark wings flapped trying to maneuver the egg into Piero's sight, as well as Pasayo's, wondering what kind of reaction it would have.
Fumei blinked, trying to get a sight of the tall man and little girl? ... Well, whoever he was carrying. It didn't help much that Fumei decided to just do whatever was normal.
"Oh, hello."

Pasayo stared at the egg, her little brows knit with confusion as she watched the actions of this strange egg. It seemed hardly proportionate to fly, such ting wings on such a large egg, yet somehow it managed to keep aloft and even come near here. At first she drew back into Piero's arms, a conditioned response, though when she felt a strange pang in her bones she turned back to look.
"Master, this is..."
Her question and voice were weak, not due to uncertainty but from the pain that still remained from her exposure to the sun. Piero merely smiled at her gently, patting the top of her colorful head with his gloved hand.
"It would seem this is another child much like yourself, and the one addressing us now must be the caregiver. Hello young lady, how are you fairing?"
He was calm and collected, not unusual. What would it ever take to shock this man?

Fumei gave a big smile. "Oh good! I was hoping to meet someone else who knew of these eggs! I've tried to do some research, but I think it's best to wait it out." She clapped her hands together with great pleasure, happy to find some sort of understanding of her new charge. Or at least, potential understanding. As she smiled up at Piero, she gave a dazzling smile to Pasayo as well.
Bzz. Bzz. B'Elanna flew about, buzzing with more energy than before.
"Hmm, a master? And a caregiver... oh! I'm sorry, I haven't answered your question!" Fumei said, talking fast as she grabbed B'Elanna back in her arms. The girl seemed as energetic as her egg, happy and light, moving as light and fast as the egg seemed heavy and bulky.
BZZ. BZZ.
"I'm alright! Yourself? And this cutie here?" Fumei said, pointing at Pasayo. "I'm Fumei! And this is B'Elanna!"
The teenager seemed to like company. And talking a lot. But what teenage girl didn't?

"She is a little weary from the sunlight hurting her eyes, but otherwise I believe the two of us are fairing quite well. It is as pleasure to meet you Fumei and B'Elanna, I am called Piero. This little child..."
Piero kept Pasayo's eyes shielded with his hand the whole time he spoke, having moved it back over to help the small girl out after the pat from before. He did remove it though as a cue for her to introduce herself, and with a weak smile Pasayo gently bowed her head.
"My name is Pasayo, I am thankful for the compliment."
She spoke so well for a child, almost more than she naturally should. It probably came how many lessons she was receiving daily thanks to Houkan and Piero and several educational tapes.
"I do not think you should let B'Elanna fly around like that, her wings are not meant for flight. It will probably hurt her more when she grows up to have done it so much."

When hearing Piero's warning, B'Elanna saw it wise to heed his words. Or maybe it was because Fumei's arms were wrapped tight around the egg. No buzzing was heard from the egg when Fumei poked the egg.
Fumei puffed at the egg before returning a dazzling smile back at Piero. "Oh I see... hmm... oh and you're very welcome Pasayo! It's good to see polite children still exist in this world." Poor Pasayo. How was she to travel around during the day? Truly a puzzle for her feeble teenage mind. After shaking her head, she suggested, "Maybe a cap would help? Or perhaps a parasol?" Poor little girl.
Still, with such a dark black skin, Fumei wondered if Pasayo suffered any other ailments. Would B'Elanna be the same? Hmm. Still, Toulouse himself didn't know what B'Elanna would be like-- oh.
"So you know about these eggs?" Fumei asked. "If you don't mind, I'd like to accompany you two for a bit and find out more about this one." She said, indicating the now obedient egg.

"I was thinking about buying her a parasol today actually, though it may just be best for her not to venture out during any hours other than twilight or the dark of evening. Even the slightest bit of sunlight seems to cause her pain, though in the hours before night she seems to be able to manage well enough."
Piero still kept his hand over the little girl's eyes, aware then she was squinting in between rubbing them rather harshly. He felt bad for bringing her out like this but it was a lesson that needed to be learned, on that they would keep in mind until she was older. Then perhaps they could invest in a pair of blackout sunglasses, but would that not just blind her? He did not want that, so for now . . .
"You are welcome to accompany us if you wish to, though I do not know if I will be able to give you much information on the egg you carry other than simple basics. Pasayo is still quite a mystery, to both herself and myself, so we are learning as we go."
Pasayo merely nodded, keeping silent in his arms.

"Wow, you're awesome, Mr. Piero. We'd best hurry to wherever your destination is, then." Fumei said, eyeing Pasayo and giving them both a sympathetic smile.
Mr. Piero seemed like a nice person. As normal as one could be, with the apathetic response to the unnatural flying egg. The man with such a tolerance must have been exposed to more than just the egg, and she could feel him being more than just ordinary. Perhaps it was his mannerisms. They spoke of refined gestures, polite court manner than spoke volumes of his character.
With that in her teenaged mind, Fumei skittered beside Piero, and continued to look at Pasayo. "I'm glad to have anybody tell me what I can do for B'Elanna here." She said, indicating her slightly buzzing egg. "I've only met one other person who would know of this egg, but... he's such a sourpuss it seems."
B'Elanna seemed to nod in Fumei's arms.

"A sourpuss? Oh, so you have met Toulouse then already. I suppose that would make things easier to talk about since you should have a general idea."
Piero started to walk towards a store that was only a few minutes away from his current position, a store that he shopped in so often that all the workers knew him by name and spoke to him like he was an employee as well. He could not count the number of times that Mrs. Pratcett had insisted that he come and eat meals with her and her family, or the number of times Scott asked him for help with college essays. It was good to be known sometimes.
"As for me being awesome, I just think it is because you are young and have yet to see the rest of the world. I am much older than I seem, I am sure, and have learned to take few things with surprise anymore. Like Pasayo, for example. She dropped out the sky and into my arms, quite literally."
"Though I was but an egg at the time. I do not have clear memories of being given to you, but I do recall there was an unusual amount of wind that day. I like the wind since it makes me feel like I am at peace."
The little girl leaned into Piero's frame as they walked, slightly wondering if her weight was heavy to his arms. He had carried her around so often as an egg that the beating of his heart was probably one of the most soothing sounds to her ears, and as she closed her eyes to listen it helped lessen the pain.
"So you call her B'Elanna? Does she talk to you at all?"

Fumei's eyebrows shot up in surprise. What a small world. Well, perhaps there were more than just sourpuss ... ashy egg offspring. That was good. More and more Fumei wondered what B'Elanna would be like. "Wow, you've met him too? Haha, I suppose I have a bit of an idea..."
Tagging along Piero, Fumei happily snuggled her egg that much closer. The egg seemed to eminate a feeling of belonging, its wings fluttering happily. He was such a nice person, and so seemingly accepting of unordinary happenings. She wondered how much familiarity he had with such things. With that, Fumei tried not to stare at Piero and Pasayo as she tagged a little bit behind him.
"Aw, don't say that Mr. Piero, I'm sure I can learn more in a time where I'm still young!" Fumei laughed, giddy with the fact that Piero was actually talking to her normally. "Out of the air huh? I took B'Elanna out of a lake she ... seemed to land in?" With that, she looked at Pasayo. With a look of serenity on her face, Fumei decided to leave her be.
Patting her egg, Fumei smiled as she caught up to Piero and walked beside him. "Yes, ... her name is B'Elanna. She talks to me... in a way that sort of flows through me. Though, I've to study the egg more, but without... unconventional means, I don't think I can get a translator up anytime soon."

Pasayo nodded her head at Fumei's explanation, and she wondered if all girls were as flighty as this one. While living with Piero and Houkan she was the only girl in the entire home, unless their older cousin came over, so she had little to know knowledge about what girls were like.
From what she was gathering is that they were a bit air headed and talked too much. Seemed to giggle at everything like there was no tomorrow, and did not mind talking to strangers in a less than polite manner.
....Girls were weird.
Piero chuckled a little as he seemed to sense Pasayo's feelings towards Fumei and the package in her arms, though it was a very soft one that merely rumbled in his chest. The little girl could feel the vibrations against her cheek and she knew he was amused with her judgment, though glad she was not the type to voice it.
"So you found her in a lake? It seems then that these children appear in places that we are most likely to find them without much effort. It makes me wonder how many more there actually are out there. My younger brother says he has met two others, and I have now met you and a child called Kashya, not to mention Toulouse."
That number alone let Piero know there was a world of these children far beyond the imagination. If he had only seen the young, surely there must be elders as well. How else could they come about other than just being blown by the wind or rushed by the water?
"As for what I meant about you being young is that there are people out there far more interesting than me. You have yet to meet them, t'is all."

As the teenaged girl's eyes flitted from one point of the shop to the other, Fumei pat her ashy egg, glad to have B'Elanna's obedience in tow for once. Going out with someone who wasn't a sourpuss was much more fun. Still, there didn't seemed to be anything gained in this exchange either. Ah well. "Yes, I found B'Elanna in a lake. She has a small crack though, so I don't think she was just waiting there for me to find her."
With that, Fumei pat her egg a few times, soothing her egg with a silent request. Off came the circlet in a swift motion that was well practiced. "See?" She then looked to Pasayo, for girls often wondered why other girls who weren't as talkative felt when they didn't have to talk much. "Do ya think she'll hatch, Pasayo? There's a lot of you to meet, like ya said, and I think I've heard of Kashya."
Fumei thought about the report Haa'fyana had given her, and then returned her thoughts to the present. "Haha, well, I'm sure you're just as interesting as they are, Mr. Piero. ... I don't think these kids 'pick' just anyone." She said without giving much thought.
But when did any teenage girl give much thought to what she said?

"I cannot be certain about when she will hatch, though I can say she will, but she seems to be enjoying being held by you. If she did not like it I think she would be buzzing around, much like I did when I wished to be set out."
Pasayo could barely remember her hatching, only that it had been dark and Dusk had been by her side. He was the first to call her name into ears that could hear, the first thing to be seen with new eyes. She had not seen him since that day, the boy avoiding her perhaps due to his sheepish and timid nature, but for some reason the sight of him was burned into the back of her mind.
"I do not think a little crack should bother her either. Maybe it will turn into a scar as she grows and fade away, so you will not even remember her having it?"
The little child was trying to sound positive, though she herself was not thinking about what she was saying. It all sounded good enough on her mouth before it reached her mind, so naturally she shared it. Pasayo was a child, after all.
"If you are curious about how they are once they hatch, I can assure you these children are much like human children. They need to eat and sleep, be taught how to use the toilet and use silverware. Basically they start mentally as babies, only with the ability to learn leaps and bounds in a single day. Pasayo was able to walk and talk and do tasks on her own only hours after hatching."

For once, Fumei thought about a few things and tilted her head to the side in silence. When would B'Elanna hatch, how she would do so, what she could do afterwards, and how B'Elanna would be. Everything centered around this new egg of hers. It was like a baby. No different from her other charges when she had taken care of them. Hmm. When she held B'Elanna, she knew things couldn't be too bad.
Right?
She would just have to love who B'Elanna would be. Hopefully someone good. All her charges seemed like good people, and Fumei liked their company. B'Elanna would be a happy addition to her new family. Hee.
But that was before Pasayo's voice brought her back to the present.
"Ooooh, I see." Fumei nodded, intaking this information with the usual hyper nod. How did Piero manage with little Pasayo?
With that she voiced her thoughts. "Pasayo-chan is such a good girl." Fumei piped up, patting B'Elanna. "Mr. Piero must have put extra care into you, cutie." She said, looking at Pasayo with a smile. "Looks like I'll have my work cut out for me."
