Another round come and gone and only four contestants remained. Once more they would find their situation similar and yet different. Upon the end of each bout a harmless, yet blinding white light enveloped them from all around and eventually faded, with the defeated returning to the Reception Hall and the victors coming upon something unlike the first two bouts. This time their locale demanded a great deal of skill or a great deal of caution…

It was hot. Overwhelmingly hot. The air itself seemed thin and oppressive, taunting the more desperate in their attempts to inhale great quantities. Save for those who by nature found such heat tolerable, the temperature of this new locale would force most participants to break into an immediate sweat with no chance of relief until after the match, win or lose. As though that weren’t enough, it just so happened that this match would be taking place deep within a volcano, upon an island of cooled magma; as cool as it could be anyway surrounded by a pool of lava. That at least explained the heat. An interesting fact about the island was that it appeared to have been tampered with, a perfect 60 square foot, level surface from one edge to another. Even more impressive, at least for the spectators, was the amount of care put into actually planting more optical fiber cameras around the walls of the volcano, and even a few on the significantly smaller islands of cooled magma floating about.

As in the past, an enormous Disperse Halo descended upon the scene, revealing two triumphant warriors from the previous match separated by some 20 feet. First their heads appeared followed quickly by the rest of their body, ending with their feet. Perhaps both fighters had a lot of expectations to live up to this match. Not only had they triumphed impressively in Round One, but they received an unexpected break when their battles screeched to a sudden halt in Round Two. Red, the ruby kitsune, had conquered over Sol Nal Azul only to find her well rested opponent Soneko unable to keep up with her, whereas Yo-ko had taken a great deal of care in eliminating Kenta Kitsune only to find the young vulpine's girlfriend less entertaining. Both were probably disappointed, but they had been allowed a breather, which would otherwise seem an advantage were they fighting anyone else. Any strain on their bodies probably dissipated or at least eased with the relatively temperate and serene setting of the forest that they had been trapped in the previous round. Hopefully they weren't too stiff.

Ringout was an option this round, but probably not a very safe one. Lava, after all, had a tendency to do its job quickly and effectively. The fighters would have to be careful how they approached one another, which was more than enough to entertain their host.

Before either contestant begins, please prepare an entrance post of your own to indicate you are prepared to start and once again roll a 20 sided die via post action. Whoever rolls the higher number will be responsible for the initial fight post. All warriors are advised to keep count of the number of posts because no post after the specified limit will be considered for the tournament. One method is to include the post number every time your character makes a move. At this moment, all profiles have been pulled and will be forwarded to the judges. If at any point your character does something not clearly specified in your profile, you will be asked to edit the post or be disqualified. Good luck to you, and may the fight begin.

His red dredlocks shook with dissapointment as the halo enveloped him. He had no understanding of what had happened, why his opponent had left like she did. From his careful observations of there race, it had to be important. He had survived without a scratch. It was very....awkward. Yo-ko was very interested in the user of this Halo for transportation. Whoever had invented it was very good at what they did. Prehaps after the tourney, he might be able to talk with the inventor and learn its technology. Yo-ko was a sap for such things anyways. It was why the last battle was so dissapointing. He was looking forward to how the other race worked. He liked to learn like that.

Suddenly, his feet felt solid ground as the swirl of lights around him dimmed and he began to see....and feel red hot all around him. Instantly he focused around him like he had every other round, taking in his surroundings as to not get caught of guard. Fighting in the middle of a volcano was a pleasure Yo-ko had not had before, his own sarcasm making him roll his eyes as he spotted his opponent. lava offered a rich sense of energy around him amongst the blazing heat, being at one of the "zits" of the earth. This he hoped, he could turn into an advantage. One he knew he would use as he viewed his opponent thouroughly.

The first thing he noticed was her hair was almost the color of the lava, so rich and so red that it could almost have intoxicated him had he been a weaker man. The second thing he realized was her scent, confirming her beauty as a kitsune. Once again in this tournement, it would be Kitsune vs Kitsune. Yo-ko forced his eternity blue eyes away from her body and to look at her eyes, using extreme discipline to keep them there. For a second he felt bad that he might have to damage her beautiful body, but it was instantly replaced with focus and intent to do what he needed to do. He kept his hands down, but his spiritual and mental guard up at all times. He knew that she would be dangerous fighter by two reasons. One: she had made it this far and Two: most kitsune women where. When Yo-ko spoke, he let his voice ring powerful deep around the pit, but the sound of boiling and heat seemed to soak it up just a little.

"Hello there. My name is Yo-ko. I Beleive you are my opponent. I wish you luck, and i wont hold back. Forgive me for that, and prehaps we could join each other later after the tourney is done....."

With that, Yo-ko prepared himself be bending his knees so slightly that his pants didnt even show it, lowered his chin slightly and flexied his fingers so his dextereity would not be compromised.

It was surprising how quickly her opponent simply threw in the towel in the previous match. Only a few moves and he just let it go. She had done nothing spectacular, but it was enough to ensure she would advance, and it allowed her to rest which she would not complain about. Before too long she found herself once again engulfed by a white light that slowly dimmed as the ring of energy used to transport the fighters relocated her once again. This time, within the confines of a volcano.

Interesting.

She immediately heard the sound of steam rising, accompanied quickly by its visual presence as her skirts touched down on the extremely hot surface. It would be detrimental to fall on bare skin it appeared. The vapor only continued to rise around her as the steady flow of water continued saturating her clothes, growing in quantity around her form until her opponent would only be able to see her behind a thin veil of steam. Her gaze was as cold and impersonal as ever as she observed him.

Dredlocks. Red dredlocks. She had the displeasure of only meeting one such person before during one her Orion experiences. He wasn't a very respectable man, but then again he was only barely a man. Naturally his hormones would override his gentlemanly reserves, assuming he had any. First he looked her over, then he smelled her - she could see his nose twitch - and then he looked at her again, locking eyes with her, as though he were attempting to pore into the depths of her very soul. She responded only by not looking away, as though staring him down momentarily. Eventually, he broke the monotony of the moment by introducing himself to her.

Spirit fox. Had he chosen that name or did his parents just think it was cute? Neither answer would entertain her any more than the other. She continued to look at him for a moment, not personally caring to see him again after this match.

"You've defeated a kitsune already and mage of sorts. They were amateurs and careless to your antics. Do not let them be your undoing."

As she spoke, Yo-ko might notice something. The pillar of vapor seemed to be meeting a cap some ten or so feet above the ruby kitsune's head, spreading outward instead of upward as it met some sort of invisible field. It appeared that Red had already devised a strategy that she was putting into place even now. As she adjusted her form into her hanmi stance, the pillar that rose around her widened, but she did not move to strike just yet. It was just a courtesy; a vague show of respect.

I used the randomizer to generate a number between 1 and 20, with odd numbers going to Yo-ko and even numbers going to Red. The number was 12, therefore Red will begin this match. Good luck fighters.

Post 1

The discouraging task of first strike was up for grabs, but so far her opponents were getting the jump on her. Not this time. Just as the pillar and cloud of vapor seemed to be easing up, there was a quick and rapid upsurge of steam as the water began to move, racing as far along the surface of the square ring as it could before evaporating into a lingering cloud around both fighters. Yo-ko might notice how quickly stifling the situation would be with so much vapor in the air.

Anthropomorphic beings tended to release heat through sweat, a salty liquid that would steal heat from their bodies and evaporate into the air, thus lowering their overall temperature. With so much water already in the air, it would be harder for the sweat to evaporate, which generally meant you were trapped with most of the heat your body was storing, willingly or otherwise; a serious problem when you were engaged in combat with someone, an activity that demanded you generate heat as you competed for victory.

Heat exhaustion might win her the match.

That was not her direct prerogative however. Rather, what she intended to do was obscure the boy's vision, and thus, she might make a steady fool of him as he tried to recalibrate his bearings. It was a pretty obvious ploy - that much she could not hide - since the abundance of vapor was clearly starting to hide her form until she was nothing other than an alleged form hidden within the cloud. So far as she knew, this automatically put her opponent at two disadvantages, and for that reason, she saw no reason to attack directly. He was the one in trouble.

Yo-ko offered a quick smirk as he heard the lady speak. Like any self respecting kitsune, she had seen through his cheap antics like they where. antics: simple ones at that. Yet she too should be scolded for her own antics, creating the steam and spreading it around. She was like Yo-ko in many ways, especially her nack for strategy. It made Yo-ko want this fight all the more. He began to ponder her strategy, finding it almost simple yet still tryign to find any underlying applications to it. Though not finding any, he never let his guard down. The steam was makign it even difficult to see, so he activated his kitsune eye. This eye granted him 360 degree vision, to see faster then normal, through illusions, and see the energy flow around him. He still had a lock on her, no matter how thick the steam got.

However, Yo-ko did nootice the attributes of the steam. Though the place did not get hotter, it felt like it was. The dredlocked kitsune took note of this, and knew that she was up to something. Whether she new it or not, he own strategy was aiding his own as well. The steam could hide his movement much like a mist. In fact, he could extend his spirit into the particles of water out there and creat somehtign like an early warning net. So he had set himself a very formidable defense at the cost of his opponents energy: he could see, know, and feel his opponent now. He would be able to react to anything.

Yet he knew not to get cocky. to many good warriros died that way. Just keep calm and follow the plan. Yo-ko used his spirit to form a seal print in the ground. it was time to go on the offensive. a little trick Yo-ko called the great trap chamber.

The seal opened a 15 foot diameter seal that reveals a pit beneath the opponent. it was normally 100, but Yo-ko had to condence it so he himself did not fall in. inside the pit is spikes, explosion tags, kunai. most the thigns in the pit where covered with a powerful poisin, just to insure that the job was finished. Yo-ko watched her carefully, being ready to pounc in case her movements depicted that she had seen this comming and evaded. Yet this would be nearly impossible. The way Yo-ko summoned this seal was not outside his regular energy flow. Not even most seasoned fighters, ones who could read the opponents energy flow, could have seen it especially with steam cover. This was why Yo-ko never showed it to any one. The only people to view this skil....where dead. Yo-ko waited and calculated, findign his place to strike. He knew she would fight a hard fight. She was kitsune after all. she, like him, had thousands of tricks up her sleave.....

"I gave you fair warning."

Soon he would discover that this fight was completely in her favor. From his previous two rounds she had already assessed that he was a character quickly able to adapt, and she took that into calculation. Grateful that he had no proved her wrong, she began to fight back.

One note she didn't expect was for him to practically damn himself by opening a hole beneath them significantly larger than the ring itself. Unless he had some levitation skill, he was doomed to fall. She on the other hand simply remained stable, as though floating on air. Whether or not he could see her was of no consequence, but he would see no vain attempt on her part to save herself.

Instead, he could catch something coming in from behind him; a discus it might seem. A razor thin ring of ice was closing in on him from behind as particles water solidified and gave chase. In addition, right before him, with or without his exceptional perception skills, he would see hundreds upon hundreds of ice needles take shape and dart directly for him while from above fell a giant block of frozen water the size of a cinder block. He'd find if he tried to move right or left, solid walls where there should have been thick vapor, a seemingly perfect trap that rendered him immobile and doomed to his fate. The fact of the matter was she was just testing him. He was, after all, adept at seeing everything coming at him at once, and she knew he could see through her skin and even beyond her own anatomy. Be that as it may, there were physical limitations to one's actions. She could almost predict his defense, but that did not mean she was right.

"s**t"

Yo-ko had miscalculated. He had forgotten about the shere size of this ring compared to the seal he had opened. Now matter. He had an idea that she was testing him. so he had a test for her. What if her plans also went wrong. He had a backup escpae plan for this. Every time he used this move he had it set up just in case this exact kind of thing happened. so here was how he would do it.

The seal began to close as he fell. He was closing himself inside the seal? Suddenly, when the ring was vissible, Yo-ko just flashed right where he was standing before the seal was opened. the seal took the pillar of ice and the ice daggers into it, then finally shut. He had placed his Shadow seal witht he other foot when he had placed the great chamber seal. So once again, it was like the battle had never started. Even if Yo-ko had made a mistake, he got valuable information about his opponent that he could now add into his calculation. so in a sense that his attack was a probe, it succeded greatly. He knew she had a great grasp of water, and could levitate as well. Mostly, and most importantly, he knew she could keep a leveled head in tough situations. His miscalulation now seemed to have aided him more then it hurt him. He saw some of her minipulations, attacks, and strategy.

So she was an ice user. So, he had a game of his own to play with. Time to try her out again. The red haired fox pointed his right index finger and released a spirit bullet right for the "between the eyes" at his opponent. the bullet had the power of a 50 cal explosive round. Another good probe. Then the fight could really begin....

His hasty reaction was well placed, considering he had nearly doomed himself to a fate reserved for her. Amusing. Unfortunately for him, she was not as blind or insensitive as he might believe, and that would be his undoing if he did not start thinking faster.

As entertaining as his notion to test her was, she appeared not to be interested and though he might not see it, her gaze was fixed blankly on his general form. In a matter of a few moves, he had already revealed four techniques that she might categorize as trumps, not starters. Despite his cool head, she got the feeling that he was a bit desperate.

Just a split second before his anticipated shot, Yo-ko would notice his feet being abruptly shoved in opposite directions beneath him. To do this, Red had simply allowed the water molecules to bond to the area around his ankles, flash freeze, and pull to the outside. Should he shoot first, he'd undoubtedly miss by a wide enough birth as his arm unexpectedly jerks one direction or another. However, should he have enough time in that split moment to respond, she would employ a more favorable defense for such a tactic. Either way, something he would begin to notice was her movement. It wasn't a hasty evasion or a pursuit, but just an arc as she walked around him clockwise, clearly preparing something for him.

Yo-ko was puzzled at her choice of attacks. Ice in a volcano? The ice that had formed around his feet where weak at best because of the steam and heat of the volcano. Ice and Heat just didnt work out. Yet having the ice pull back at him was a unforseen movement, but it didnt matter. She wasnt the initial target of this attack now.

As the ice pulled at his legs, already chunks feel off moving his arms slightly to the side. Still squezzing off the round, the spirit bullet zoomed far to the left impacting with a flash against the volcano. Chunks fell into the lava bed surrounding them causing lava to to spill and fall onto the ring and for the female kitsune. Because of her arching motion, she was in the middle of the wave of lava. Once again, the situation changed.

That seemed to happen alot with Kitsune battles. Each one plans for the other one to plan to gain the upper hand and....it could really get complicated and chaotic. Yet they where both trained well. The outcome and how it happened would be msot interesting.....

As Yo-ko fell, he pulled his legs to his chest while reaching with his other hand to grab a little toy he could use. Feeling his legs break free of the ice, Yo-ko propelled himself off the ground by planting the re-gun hand while at the same time removing pulling out a carpet from his pouch. Instantly the carpet was free, it flew under Yo-ko and lifted him into the air and back out away from the ring and lava. Now about 20 feet in the air and 5 away from the edge of the ring, he watched and prepared his next move to see if the cold kitsune could escape a terrible fate. If she did, He had another surprise for her. He started to gather his energy.

From her silent assessment, this boy was more interested in re-living the glory moments of an animated character with similar abilities than showing off any sort of creativity in this fight. A similar situation had occurred in which the 'protagonist' was stuck in a ring surrounded by the steaming sweat of the 'antagonist.' To her memory, the hero responded the same way Yo-ko had chosen to; attacking the ring and not the villain. Seeing as she did not consider herself the villain, or that boy any form of hero, there was little to be bothered with. The result would be relatively the same. She knew that much.

His attempt to escape the 15 feet or so of cloud would not go nearly as well as he would hope, nor would his attack on her. Shifting to take a more proactive approach, Red thrust her left arm up swiftly to her rear, a bed of steam retreating behind her in the shape of a wall whose surface froze from the contact point on her palm. Her right hand rested before her, slightly beneath the chin. Both fists clenched and in an instant the steam was on the move. To her rear, as her mana signature grew stronger, a wall of ice remarkably held the advancing liquid magma at bay, most of it retreating to the pool from which it came while some sat atop her half barrier and cooled into solid rock. What Yo-ko might have to worry about was the steam between them and behind him.

Upon reaching into his pocket and withdrawing what looked as pathetic as a rug, the liquid vapor clung to it, drenching it as though it would dissolve. Meanwhile, the rest of the steam had converted back to its liquid state and four water whips surrounded the kitsune boy, ready to give chase at a moment's notice. As for Red, she merely stood before him, returning to a normal posture and approaching him with slow, calculated steps. After a mere 15 foot advance, she returned to her hanmi stance, feet hidden by her skirt, expression unreadable.

"I'm done with games now. You can fire at me, but you'll miss, so I recommend we fight like true warriors and not low class circus clowns. Do fists suit you or are those tools and spells all you have?"

When it came down to it, Red preferred the art of combat, something that one could not enjoy with energy projectiles flying to and fro. If Yo-ko wanted any chance of winning this combat, he'd have to show he could do more than the same tricks over and over again. A redundant fighter was a boring one.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 04, 2008 2:10 pm

Yo-ko felt slightly taken aback at her comment. Pot calling the kettle black. She was the one doing all the minipulation. Eh, he would let her think that though.

"Real warriors? real warrios understand strategy and skill. You have both. We just differed....But yes, we can do this like real warriors. You wanted no games? then i will give it too you...."

Yo-ko carefully menouvered his carpet back to the ring. When he landed, the carpet all by its self went back into his pouch. He was about 10 feet away from the adversary, way out of rang for a hand to hand battle. Yet he didnt know if this was a trick or not yet. She had all to generously let him come back. Now, that was assuming she actually had Yo-ko in a bad spot. He still had plenty of tricks he coudl have done. In fact, one was being applied as he prepared himself. One that he needed to turn the tables of this fight. Yet if there was any way he could do it, it would be in the hand to hand combat.

As a mishima style practitioner, he was very skilled at close combat. Yet no matter how proficient he got in the art or any art, Yo-ko refused to take the title of master. Even the best can find ways to improve. Sliding his left foot forward, Yo-ko bladed his body completely to the side, offering a smaller target for his opponent. While bringing his hands up, his left one extended out in front of him, hand relaxed and opened, with his elbow one fist length away fromt he body. His right hand came up to his left shoulder, hand about two fist lengths away from it. Lowering his chin slightly yet keeping a good posture, Yo-ko kept his eyes on his oponents chest while he slowly began to circle and close the distance. He was forming and revising his plans, knowing at any moment he could have walked into a trap. Which was why he had It ready to go at a moments notice."

"lets go chica. You wanted no games, so i will give it to you....."

As she expected, her words got to him, all because of a simple misunderstanding. She could not help how he interpreted what she said, but it was amusing to know he had gotten so wound up. He was thinking about this way too hard, while she couldn't look any more impassive if she tried.

The boy was confident in his abilities; a jack-of-all-trades tended to be. Even at the purely physical level he didn't flinch. Red appreciated that. His hesitation to strike an open foe was amusing. Paranoia led to undoing as often as it prevented it. As he circled her, shrinking the wheel of combat they would dance on, she prepared to prove this point.

As soon as he moved, she made an abrupt jolting motion as her entire body, head included, fell limp. It was an experimental combat form that she was thinking of simply designating "Marionette Style." It's effectiveness was not yet combat tested, but she was sure it was enough. As Yo-ko's body neared her, his motions sweeping counterclockwise, her doll-like form darted for him, in what looked like a solid headbutt aimed between his eyes. She did not want this test to end horribly, though she was sure it would.

The red kitsune didnr flinch or even seem surprised. Due to his friends and combat style, un-orthodox and awkward fighting poses was his specialty. Yet it was the fighting styles that flowed and seemed natural that always seemed to top those that didnt. It was those few things that Yo-ko had been trained under. Anything that worked. Besides: method, or results?

Yo-ko waited until nearly the last second before he shifted his weight and "shrimped" his hips out to the side. this bladed his body, avoiding the target, but still maintinging the close quaters distance. doing a quick shuffle step before his oppoennt had time to recover, or re-plan, Yo-ko shifted his hips and used his weight to aid a outward cresent kick as hie lifted his right leg and shot the outward edge of his foot angled and aimed perfectly for the diapram of his opponent. Rechambering the kick, Yo-ko shot the kick down trying to "slice" the opponents balance by rubbing his leg down hers, attacking the knees backwards; the way they dont bend.

Still using the momentum from his kick, Yo-ko shot up his left hand in a web hand strike for the neck. This attack wouldnt certenly damage the opponent as well as shock them. It packed alot of force, and it also used the opponents momentum against them in a close-line like action. An attack to neck could finish her, But Yo-ko doubeted it. her body was a weapon no doubt: she was well trained. Her style was interesting. it made Yo-ko all the happier....

Always thinking, processing, deciding and doing, Yo-ko was proving himself to be a very inside-the-box sort of fighter in an outside-the-box sort of way. Though it was doubtless that he had a measure of skill as a melee fighter, his actions were still very textbook by definition. He had timed his reaction perfectly, that much went without saying, but he suffered one minor disadvantage. Because he had relented his opportunity to lead in this dance, he was left having to follow.

Good leaders knew where they were taking their followers.

Red knew textbook fighting, and did not have to time her movement with Yo-ko's because she already knew when he would attempt to respond to her actions. Therefore, at the last moment, the predetermined point at which you would counter an opponent's move so as to reduce any chance of them defending, her body moved again, as though it were being manipulated by a set of strings - hence the name of the style - and rather than simply missing, her headbutt shifted into what could only be described as an intended bodily collision, her entire form advancing to collapse and stumble all over Yo-ko the moment he tried his shuffle step to her right. From his vantage, he would see the trajectory of her entire body abruptly shift toward him as though her center of gravity had been relocated to her head and someone had jerked it roughly in his direction. His crescent kick would be stopped, if he even managed to start, as his legs would wind up entangled with Red's and the weight of her body would lead to the inevitable downward tumble.

Always thinking, always planning. One did not have to keep doing these things when they already knew what they were doing.
