I figure even villains have role models. So why not set up a thread to discuss them? Especially since I have been so taken in by one such villain at the moment. So come, speak of the most vile and infamous creatures to roam the earth and why you would esteem them so.
At the moment, I would have to say the Duke of Gloucester of Shakespeare's histories has no compare. I've been re-reading The Tragedy of King Richard the Third for my Shakespeare class and have had the pleasure of re-acquainting myself with his evilness. Seriously, he is one of the coolest bad guys in all of literature.
From his first soliloquy, he announces to the audience that he is "determined to prove a villain." You're let into all his plots on working his way up to the throne, including the murder of his own brother ("Simple, plain Clarence, I do love thee so / That I will shortly send thy soul to heaven, / If heaven will take the present at our hands."). Not only that, but he woos, and wins, the Lady Anne. The same Anne who was just cursing him for murdering her husband and father in law and had, until recently, despised his guts. Why? Because Richard is a damn good actor and knows how to play everyone's strings.
Yes, I say we all can learn something of evil from this man. I highly recommend reading Richard III. If you aren't fond of reading Shakespear though (I know not everyone is an english major like me), you should watch 1955 Laurence Olivier performance. I also hear the 1995 Ian McKellan version is pretty good, even if it's not as traditional.
Anyway, like I said. This is the place to discuss your favourite villains, be they literary or in movies. Because even villains can aspire to become even more evil...

lol...my hero...or villian...would be Rasputin
I mean...hes not a villian, but the dood took 3 gunshots with 1 being close to his heart, ate a whole plate of cyonide (pardon my spelling), got the crap beat out of him, then was thrown into the water!
He would have lived too, but his arms were broken from the beatings and he couldnt swim back up...

Well, I'd have to say Vlad the Impaler. A.K.A. Dracula. Come on, he impaled hundreds, collected their blood, and drank it with his bread in the middle of his forest of dead bodies on sticks. Then when he was finally caught, he was shot, burned, hung, stabbed, beaten and drowned before he finally got around to dying. That's nuts. pirate

I read something about how he kept a golden chalice full of coins in the middle of the city he resided in and it was never stolen. He actually threatened to kill EVERYONE in the city if there was so much as a coin missing. He even tested the merchants and whatnot for honesty. He, on purpose gave a merchant too much money for an item, and was going to impale him if he didn't count out the money and give him the extra coins back. Lucky for the vendor, he realized he gave him too much money and gave him the money back. He also hated adulters and whores. He invited a bunch of suspected or convicted adulters and prostitutes for a feast, and while they were eating, he barred up the place and burned them alive inside. >_> Fecking nuts.

Jack the ripper:
By today's standards of crime, Jack the Ripper would barely make the newspaper headlines, murdering a mere five prostitutes in a huge slum swarming with criminals: he would just be one more violent creep satisfying his perverted needs on the dregs of society.

Yes, but Jack the Ripper has been personified in so many different novels and TV series that he can rank up there with the awe inspiring. Historically accurate or no, he's made some great guest appearances. xd

Actually, he killed more than just 5 prostitues. It's just that the police kind of... stopped paying any attention to him in the hopes that them just ignoring his existance would make him stop. He actually went by a different name before he called himself "Jack the Ripper." His first name was "Mr. Nemo." You should read a book called Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell. She actually believes she knows who the real Jack the Ripper was, and is very convincing. I actually believe she may have solved it. Don't get me started on serial killers. I could go on for aaaaaaaaaaaages. blaugh My psychology teacher would talk with me for hours after class just about serial killers alone. It was the subject that intrested me the most and made me want to get into forensics and phsychological profiling as a profession.

Anyone else think Reavers are creepy? I mean, they were bad enough in the series, but in Serenity they're just taken to another level. And the assassin guy in that movie is really cool too. In fact, it's just a good movie. Go watch it now, if you haven't already.

I found the little troll from Stephen King's movie Cat's Eye creepy as hell. Because of that goddamn movie and the fact that my parents didn't like cats, so we never had one, I was afraid to sleep at night.
