Once upon a time a great rainforest known for it's strong and courageous tribes existed on the mainland. It was a treasured place and home to many people and their bonded Kyn. But as the rains dwindled over time from natural climate change, the forest grew smaller as the trees began to die and decay. Now only a handful of precious acres remain as the forest continues to diminish in size. Fearful of losing the last of the fruit trees that provide a large amount of food, the local people and their Kyn have dedicated their lives to protecting it.
Welcome to the Forest of Sola Rio.
----------
Here you will find information on my Kyn as well as their rider, the forest, and the people that live there in present times. Please do not post! I'll be making separate threads for rp.

Area
The Forest The last acres of forest are home to an array of plants and animals. The foliage is mostly made up of tropical plants that can survive with less rain. The most rain-dependent plants can be found near streams or have disappeared from the area completely. The landscape is dotted with temperate trees that have taken over the space left by fallen tropical trees. The tropical and the temperate plants are constantly competing for space. Despite that, the foliage is dispersed enough to let even the largest Kyn pass.
Many animals make the forest home. Species such as monkeys and birds dominate the trees while tapirs, pigs, deer, antelope, and large rodents dwell on the ground. Occasionally, cattle from ranches outside of the forest can be seen traveling through. Reptiles and insects are also abundant and include many poisonous species. Food is plentiful, allowing a great population of these animals to survive.
The terrain is rough and uneven. The safest water source for humans is the great river that divides the land in two. Travelers must be wary of other sources that potentially contain harmful bacteria and parasites.
The People
Humans are few as life in the forest is not easy. The local people depend on the forest for food, clothing, and water, but they will purchase other goods from other lands. They are very in tune with nature and give it their utmost respect. Nothing goes to waste here.
It is easy to distinguish the inhabitants from passer bys. The local people have mottled skin that varies from pale tan to almost black that allows them to blend in with the shadows of the forest. Their eyes vary from silver to a shocking blue-white, and often their hair will match. These people have sharp facial features and lean, slender builds. Nowadays most of the inhabitants wear more modern-styled clothes, but some still wear traditional garments. The clothes are made of leather or woven cloths.

The Den It's not difficult to find the entrance to the den. At one point along the Great River that flows through Sola Rio, the river drops off a cliff in a large waterfall. Behind the waterfall is Keely Gray's den. The tricky part is getting in. A Kyn must swim right through the middle of the the waterfall to the entrance. If one swims even slightly left or right through the falls, they will be pushed under by the sheer weight of the water and risk drowning. The feat is daunting and takes careful examination to complete safely. Humans must cling to the thin rock outcropping behind the falls and shuffle their way to the entrance. They must be careful to avoid being swept down by the river.
Once inside, the entrance opens into a cave wide enough to admit a gathering of Kyn. To the side is a tiny pathway that leads to Keely's private quarters. No Kyn can enter there. Straight ahead the cave splits off into 4 paths. The first path is straight from there, traveling slightly upwards. It leads to the First's private den. The second and third paths are to the left, and they lead to the female Kyn's resting place and the hatching grounds. The last path is to the right, and it leads to the male Kyn's resting place and the huge training arena where Kyn may test their skills. All meetings between Kyn take place where the paths split. The deeper sections of the den are warmed by a mysterious source.

The Rider Full Name: Keely Gray Age: Early twenties Gender: Female Occupation: Guardian of the forest Likes: Papaya, polished stones, the sound of running water Dislikes: Drought, poachers, human or Kyn death
Appearance: Keely stands at a below average height of five foot two. She has the easily identifiable traits of her ancestors such as sharp features, a slender build, and silver eyes that match the colour of her hair exactly. Keely lets her waist-length hair hang loose unless she is working with Kyn or traveling away from home. When she ties back her hair, she usually braids it in two thick braids to keep it out of her way. Keely's skin is unusual in the way it is mottled with both very pale areas and almost-black patches. Her skin is mainly pale with the dark patches forming "stripes" on her face and down her limbs. Keely wears simple clothing made out of deer or antelope leather. She has a taste for gold, so she will often have gold bracelets, necklaces, and earrings on her person. Keely rarely wears anything more formal.
Personality: Keely has to be occupied with something at all times. Sitting around doing nothing makes her agitated and feel useless. In effect, she rarely has time to sit down with others to talk over matters. She usually sends Lukos to collect messages from the other Guardians instead of meeting them herself. But her constant activity makes her a very effective Guardian. She is capable of covering her entire area within the day and she will not hesitate in a potentially hazardous situation. Keely would be well on her way to becoming the Leader of the Guardians if she would communicate with the others more frequently. She is suspicious of newcomers, human and Kyn alike, but if they can prove they mean well, she will guide them during their stay in the forest. However, she will never show strangers the location of the villages or her Kyn's den. Keely does not trust anybody enough to reveal the forest's secrets.
History: Keely grew up in the small village where the Guardian's central meeting place was located. The village is located in the very center of the forest and in the most wild region. As a girl Keely was raised by her uncle and his wife as her parents had been killed in an accidental run-in with a sickly, crazed Feral Kyn. She harbored a hatred for Kyn and when she joined the Guard in her early teens, she refused to work with anyone who was a Rider. It wasn't until she stumbled upon an abandoned Kyn nest that her feelings began to change.

Den Logs A few notes are scribbled in Keely's journal. Most of the pages remain blank.
--Rone wanders off and is now nowhere to be found. Rone returns home. He mentions nothing about his travels despite Lukos' concern.

The First Name: Lukos Species: Lunar Kyn Mate(s): None Offspring: None Size: Slighty larger than average, bulkier build Likes: The dead of night, races and other competitions Dislikes: Unshielded clearings, snakes
Magic: None
Personality: Dominant and powerful, Lukos won't hesitate to impose his rank on other Kyn larger than himself. He may even get out of hand and Keely will have to intervene. But Lukos means the best for Keely and the lower Kyn. He is understanding of the others and he does not ask anything of them that they are incapable of doing. As a youngster Lukos was rather a bully, especially towards Rone, the only other member of the flight at the time. He has more or less learned from his mistakes as an adult, adding to his natural knowledge of life. Lukos tends to be more interested in the forest's affairs than the other Kyn. He will readily communicate with Kyn from other dens to hear the latest news.
If Lukos ever found himself in a physical fight, he could be in trouble. Lukos believes his natural strength and his camouflaged fur is enough to protect him in the forest. Therefore, he has not bothered to learn any magic. He would be an uneven match against a Kyn with powerful abilities, especially outside his forest home.
History: When Keely was on patrol one morning she stumbled upon an abandoned Feral Kyn nest. There had been a fair amount of storms that week and the nest was all but completely washed out. Amongst the shattered shards of shell she found a Lunar egg that was almost perfectly camouflaged in the leaf litter. Reluctantly, she took the egg with her.
She raised Lukos as her First along with Rone, another Lunar. The little ones fought like children and she couldn't help caring for them almost as such. When Lukos reached adulthood he found an interest in the Guardians' activities, and vowed to help however he could.
Lukos also stopped picking on Rone and now feels ashamed of it. Their relationship is very strained at best and he wishes he could apologize, but Rone wants to hear nothing of it. Lukos holds Rone in high regard despite all his flaws, even though the other does not seem to realize it.

The Second Name: Rone Species: Lunar Kyn Mate(s): None Offspring: None Size: Average Likes: Clear skies, climbing rocks, waterfalls Dislikes: Sudden movements, thorny plants, owls
Magic: Mist- Creates a mist around him by collecting moisture in the air. Good for hindering the sight of enemies or hiding in the forest.
Personality: Rone is an all-around average Kyn. He doesn't possess any remarkable traits or abilities. This Kyn tends to be selfish and he is easily swayed by the suggestions of others. He is very conscious of how others think of him and he will try to please anyone who thinks badly of him. Thus, it is not difficult to manipulate Rone when he thinks he is getting something out of it. It's unlikely Rone will ever have a close relationship with another Kyn because he tends to misunderstand the actions of others. Rone is somewhat of a coward as well; as long as he has the chance to flee conflict he will do so.
History: After finding the Lunar egg that contained Lukos, Keely was quickly given another egg by a woman that was desperately trying to find a new owner for it. Keely couldn't refuse because the lady was old and too weak to care for a hatching anyways. Grateful, the woman told her about a den located behind the waterfall that once belonged to her great-uncle but now stood empty. With both eggs in tow, Keely claimed the den for her own as she found the area quite beautiful. She lay the eggs in the hatching ground and watched over them.
Rone hatched mere seconds behind the First, having the title snatched away from him. He was envious of Lukos, and to make matters worse, Rone was bullied horribly by him. As they grew up Lukos stopped bullying him but now their relationship is a very formal one. Rone is still jealous of Lukos and would take the title for himself at the first opportunity.

The Wise Name: Ampelos Species: Gargoyle Kyn Mate(s): None Offspring: None Size: Average Likes: Freedom, the life around him, silence Dislikes: Being away from trees and his connection to them
Magic: Nature Thoughts - He can sense the well-being of trees and plants and can "read their thoughts"... if something has happened in the forest, he can listen to the trees to find out exactly what occurred, and if there's danger.
Personality: An observant Gargoyle Kyn, Ampelos spends his days on top of the cliff where the waterfall runs past the den's entrance. His stillness and unwillingness to move make it seem like he is lazy, but when his body is still his mind is working. He listens to the things around him constantly, only taking the occasional break to eat or spend time with keely, and to relay any important information to her. When approached he may not react right away, but he is friendly enough to visitors. His habit of observation has made him quite knowledgeable about the forest and how others interact with each other. If asked, he will give advice to a visitor as long as it's on a topic he understands.
History: During one of Keely's patrols she found a strange egg that appeared to have sprung from the forest itself. Vines surrounded the base, and when she cut all the vines away, she discovered that the egg bore vine-like markings. She took the curious egg with her and hatched it in the den.
Even as a hatchling, Ampelos held the First in utmost respect, though he could have grown larger and stronger than a Lunar. Ampelos had none of the energy or jealousy of most hatchlings, making him a welcome addition to the small clan. Not long after hatching he discovered his gift with plants and settled himself on the cliff, though he came down more frequently with his need for food. Now that he is no longer growing, he is content to stay at his post for hours on end, unless Lukos or Keely request something more from him.

The Guard Name: Anytte Species: Gargoyle Kyn Mate(s): None Offspring: None Size: Larger than average female, slimmer build Likes: Bending the rules (if only just a little), her sense of confidence Dislikes: Following orders she disagrees with, being disciplined
Magic: Winds- She can conjure winds that are strong enough to bend large trees. Usually she uses this ability to slow down an opponent or to bring in rains and storms that may hinder them. Smog- When she concentrates, Anytte can exhale a poisonous mist from her nostrils. If inhaled, this mist can cause severe lung infections that, in a worst case scenario, will cause a gradual death. Rarely used because it irritates her own throat, and if she overdoes it, she may become ill herself.
Personality: Anytte is an unruly Kyn who doesn't take orders seriously, and when she has orders to follow, she only follows the basics of the orders and nothing more. She is highly protective of her home and Keely, however, and will guard the den with all her power without a single order. During her free time Anytte can be quite lazy except when someone displeases her. She has a fiery temper and she is quick to react with very little reason. Anytte is a bit naive in the way she thinks that she is unstoppable, and that no one could ever get the better of her.
History: Unlike the others Anytte was not found as an egg but as a hatchling. During one of his days overlooking the den, Ampelos spotted a little Kyn who appeared to be wounded in the shoulder. She was a Feral Kyn hatchling that had wandered away and a villager, in fear for his family, had shot an arrow at her. It pierced through the hatchling's still-soft skin and into the muscle. The older Gargoyle plucked the arrow from her and as she keened in pain, held her still long enough for Keely to dress the wound. With thoughts that the little one wouldn't survive long in the wild where adult Ferals roamed free, Keely decided to try and tame the hatchling, and took her into the den.
The first few weeks were tough at best. As she grew stronger and her wound healed, the newly named Anytte wanted nothing to do with the little clan. She lashed out any time Lukos approached her and Keely would intervene before the Lunar could react. Keely and Lukos often argued about the fate of the hatchling, and if there was any chance that they could truly accept her into the clan. But Ampelos' presence had a strange calming effect on her. Using this to her advantage, Keely grew close to Anytte while Ampelos watched close-by. Soon Anytte was linked enough to Keely to be considered Bonded, and they let the hatchling have more freedom.
In her adult life Anytte respects Keely though their bond is not as strong as the bond between most Kyns and their Riders, and she still holds a dislike for Lukos. Truthfully she had been jealous of him, and as the only female Kyn in the clan when she was made a part of it, she thought that she should receive special privileges. Now she strives to prove that she is just as powerful as any male Kyn, or any First. She still quarrels with the others, but in a less serious way. Her deep dislike for following orders stems from her jealousy.

The Electric Name: Thunder Species: Raichu PokeKyn Mate(s): None Offspring: None Size: Small for a Lunar Likes: Storms Dislikes: Losing control of her charge
Magic: Thunder Wave- Sends out a weak but concentrated wave to paralyze enemies. Shock Wave- Sends out a stronger wave that can paralyze and damage Thunder- Her most powerful magic, Thunder conjures up a storm cloud and attacks using lightning strikes. It causes severe damage to enemies, but quickly wears her out.
Personality: A short-tempered Kyn, it doesn't take much to set Thunder off. The electricity that is constantly arcing across her body intensifies when she is angry. And she is almost always angry over something. However, she doesn't keep grudges long because there is always something new to annoy her. Despite her temper she is a friendly Kyn loyal to her Bonded and the other Kyn. Thunder often shadows Lukos, idolizing the other Lunar.
History: When Keeley traveled to the mysterious clearing after hearing rumours of strange creatures there, she discovered a kyn egg instead. It appeared to be Lunar, but with strange properties. Nonetheless she hatched and raised the odd Kyn.
