User Image“It’s just not fair, Daddy!” Rowena whined into the phone, “She hit me! These girls at school- those three bitches just have no respect for me. They won’t be taught like the others and I am out of ideas.”

“Some people will never have respect for those of us better people. They are jealous, little one, and the best reaction to them is not violence and lashing out, but self-control. If you react negatively in public, other people may lose respect for you as well, as no doubt you managed to do today. My decision is final. You are grounded. I’m pulling you out of school. I’ve already had a private tutor sent to the house. He’ll be there in a week. A Tibetan Monk. He’ll help you develop the self-control and discipline you so obviously lack while also tutoring you in your classes. My only regret is that you seem to not have learned what I taught you. The damage has been done, and we’ll have you back on top eventually. It will just take time.” Rowena never saw her father anymore. He was a wealthy politician with high ambitions, and since her mother was gone she was left alone in their house during the school year. She was essentially being raised by the butler. She remained in Delmor after failing out of a private elementary school on the mainland. Her father thought Delmor would be a good place to teach her how to control the public and wield the power she should have inherited genetically. She heard him sigh on the other line, “It’s a pity your mother was so weak and you didn’t inherit my genes… But I believe you can be taught and we’ll fix this mess you’ve gotten yourself into. Thank your lucky stars I don’t have to come home or you’d be getting a much worse treatment… Just think what would happen to me when I told the brothers! No, you’ll be staying home from now on so our family can avoid your embarrassment in the future.”

Tears were running down Rowena’s face, “But…. Daddy… I’ll miss the Promenade….”

“Now I never said that, little one. What better time to exert your control but to sweep in at the last moment and be daddy’s little prom queen? You just wait and study hard and we’ll see if you are worth being let back out in time for prom. Mark my words, if you disappoint me again you will never leave the house again.”

“Yes Daddy…”

“Thank god I found you a tutor! You know you probably would be suspended for the stunt you pulled today!?”

“Yes Daddy…”

“You owe me one, you know that?”

“Yes Daddy…”

“It’s about time you started calling me sir, you know. You’re not five anymore. What is with the ‘Daddy’ anyway?”

It wasn’t really a question, “Yes, Sir…”

“Good girl. I have to go now, I’m getting a headache from dealing with you. Love you, Little one.”

Rowena hesitated. He said this all the time, and it no longer meant a thing. It was merely a formality of their relationship. “Love you, too, sir…”

User ImageThe rest Oual managed to get in was incredible. It was on the night of the Pacific Unity that his phone rang. Oual drearily awoke from his slumber. A number that he didn’t recognize, but seemed all-too familiar, appeared on his screen. He answered it.

“Ames Oual, Chief Detective of Delmor. Can I help you?” Oual really wanted to point out that this was an awful time. A man’s gotta sleep.

“Oual? It’s Stanton.”

“Lee?” Oual asked. “Lee Stanton from CCU?” Excitement grew in his voice. His old friend had been out of his life for some time now, but that melted away. Oual felt like no time had passed.

“Yeah, from college.”

“It’s great to hear from you, Lee. What have you been up to?”

“Listen, I need to call in a favor.”

“Ha! I had no idea I owed you anything.”

“You do too owe me. Remember Diana?”

Oual winced. He should have seen that coming. “Great legs… I thought we agreed to never mention her!”

“Yeah.”

“What is it you need, Lee?”

“Any chance you could come out to Capital City?”

“Capital City?”

“This place is a mess and I could use a fresh body to help coordinate everything.”

Oual looked around as if there was something to see. “Yeah… I uh- I guess. There’s nothing going on over here. For once.” Oual had no idea that a problem brewed at Pacific Unity. Delmor would have to figure out whatever that turned into without him.

“You're a lifesaver, Oual. I'll see you soon.”

“Alright Lee. See you.”

The conversation ended. Oual quickly left a message at Roxford's and Bergman's that he'd be taking a temporary leave to Capital City at the request of Agent Lee Stanton. He apologized for the short notice but said it was important.
