User ImageThe woodland walk in the park was rarely used by mortals, the muddy track would quickly dirty up shoes and if you slipped they would be filthy. The woods therefore were a haven for city-dwelling fae, they relaxed away from the burning iron of the city, flitting around under a veil of glamour in the trees. Always out of sight, just off the main path encase any mortal did decided to stray down the route, attractively dappled by sunlight coursing through the canopy. Rioge and Araran were also taking a break in the scenic surroundings, after a day of shopping and mingling with mortals (Araran still believed it important that Rioge gained a good understanding of the mortal world).

Araran sighed as he sat the crook of a tree, being a decent of woodland fae he felt right at home, his lungs breathing in the scent of the leaves easing the soreness caused by the pollution of the city. Rioge on the other hand was not totally at home, he was not like his adopted father, his spirit was more attuned with water and the beauty that Araran found in the trees did nothing for him. However, he was satisfied, as he had discovered a stream cutting a ribbon like trail through the woods.

He was knee deep in the water, splashing around happily when Araran's ears picked up a disturbance. Someone was making their way along the path towards them, probably a mortal out for a nice walk. He frowned and shrugged on a glamour, concealing his faerie features - a bother, but a necessary precaution that his kind had to put up with. "Rioge, someone is coming." The child looked up at him and nodded, hiding his own unusual feature; dulling the vibrant blue of his hair to a reasonable brown. They weren't too far off the path and he would be able to see however walked by and visa versa..

Raina brought her deep chartreuse eyes around the small embankment, letting her features fall into an easy, natural smile. She was here for the first time today, the morning after she had received the eccentric egg, and it was still because of that that she toted Faustus along in her arms as she walked, because she still fell very protective of the fragile looking thing. The dappled sunshine fell like a beautiful stage spotlight in the verdant greenery, beckoning her deeper than she had ever gone before.

Though touching the egg made her sad, somehow, today it actually gave her some strength, and she used that determination to convince herself to keep going, down the muddy paths and towards the babbling brook that was rumoured to be incredibly beautiful. She had expected to be alone- after all, she was an adventurous one, but still took encouragement from the egg in her hands to get her to come this deep. It was unlikely any other people would be around.

But, strangely, there were people. Two, actually. As she rounded the bend, she didn’t notice them at first as she was absorbed in the mud pooling at her shoes, trying her hardest not to slip, but when she lifted her head at the bottom of the miniature slope, she let out a little ‘eep’, taken aback by the two figures looking for the world as if they lived there. Was this some sort of private resort? If so, she had missed the sign. Smiling sheepishly at the young man in the tree, her voice shook a bit as she spoke,

“H-hello there.”

User ImageThe woman seemed surprised at their presence and Araran smiled to himself, a smirk glimmering over his face. Mortals were blind to the world around them, so unaware of who, or what, was waiting around the next bend - quite literally in this case. He raised a hand in a gesture of friendliness and slipped out of his sitting place, landing in an almost catlike stance on the forest floor, despite the fact he was missing an arm. Straightening himself up he stood, facing the woman examining her. She seemed to be young, for a human, of course nearly all humans, even the whithered and white haired variety were young in faerie terms. Her auburn hair fell gracefully in the dappled light and her green eyes blazed with life. Araran smiled again to himself, such a fair mortal couldn't possibly be from the drab city- she had so much vitality and life to her that not many of the city folk possessed.

"Sorry to startle you," He said, bowing his head apologetically. He frowned as he registered what she was carrying in the crux of her arms - an egg, swaddled in stormy clouds, with wings fluttering slighting in the breeze. His own mind flashed back to Rioge's time as an egg, much of which was spent with him staying inside as much as possible to prevent any ill tempered fae from tampering with the precious egg. This woman must be a human guardian for an Ashe. He had heard tell of another egg reaching the court, apparently born by the same wind as Rioge.. But the details of whom the egg had been presented to had eluded him.

His voice was barely perceptible, a murmur on the wind as he mused the court's choice; "A mortal, hmm?" It was odd that the queen should choose to give an egg to a mortal, considering the Unseelie's dislike towards them. But he was sure the Queen had her reasons and it wasn't his right to question them, in fact he should still be licking her heel in gratitude for allowing him to be guardian to Rioge. It was however strange that they would be drawn together like this, he was even starting to think the Ashe had some strange inherent ability - they seemed to be drawn to each other like moths to a flame.

Rioge, unlike his father, wasn't one to muse and think about things without questioning. The moment he spied the egg he rushed forwards, eyes gleaming with excitement. Araran, noticing the child's eager expression, raised a hand slightly, indicating he should hold his tongue for now. Rioge stopped next to his father and waved to the human, his legs dripping with water, his bare feet on the mossy ground.

Raina blinked, once again surprised at the sudden smile that came over the male's face. He wasn't too bad looking, to be honest, though he had a bit of an enigmatic aura around him, one that made her shiver. When he made his graceful exit from the tree, Raina realized that he only had one arm, and winced sympathetically. He looked young to have been in such a dangerous situation, one that would have nearly put his life at risk, but she was in no position to ask.

She squirmed slightly as she was scrutinized, trying to avoid the vibrant eyes that whisked over her body as if she were an object. He was still smiling, though, and she respected him more for that, though she felt as though there was definite a mysterious air surrounding the two.

"I-it's alright," she stuttered, flustered that he went to all the actions of apologizing as gracefully as he had dismounted the tree. She flushed a light pink at the attention, but maintained her smile. "I just wasn't expected anyone in this particular part of the woods, that's all. I'm Raina- Raina Tremblaine- who might you two lovely gentleman be?"

Raina flinched as the boy she hadn't noticed from earlier bounded into the scene from the water, still dripping wet from playing in it. His attire was rather strange, but that didn't bother her. His eyes were a beautiful blue and his hair a dull copper, and Raina couldn't help but laugh when he raised his hand to wave.

"Yes, hello," she trilled jovially, raising her own hand in greeting.

User ImageThe woman's flushed face made Araran grin, faerie features often made mortal's swoon. Faeries did, after all, have an ethreal beauty only their kind possessed, though some were admittedly less blessed than others - one could look at a troll to see that was evident. However it amused Araran that even his, rather mundane fatures could cause such a stir in human's midst - not just here, but in town as well. He was almost sick and tired of hearing teenage girls whisper to their friends to glance his way. He was nothing compared to other of his folk, his queen for example; Gazing upon her was almost painful, she had to be the most beautiful fae in existance. Though Araran could guess that a Seelie would care to argue with him - their Queen was also fair... But in a different way, sparkling with light and carefree laughter, almost sickly sweet to the eyes of the Unseelies... Their mistress's darker, mysterious appearance more suited to their equally dark hearts.

Her question on names was nearly over looked as he thought tenderly on his queen, but eventually he replied. He could not spend his daydreaming of her beauty, however tempting it may be. "Our names? I am Araran, and this," He guestured down to Rioge, half hidden behind his father's legs peeping out at the girl, a grin plastered across his face. "Is Rioge, my... adopted son. Adopted being the closest word to describe our relationship." He wondered just how much the mortal knew of the egg she held - did she know of the courts, the importance of the Ashes, did she even know what would come from the pleasant green egg?

Rioge beamed as the woman seemed to admire his eyes, though he wished that he could show her his hair - he did love it ever so much and he was sure that if the woman liked his eyes she would also lover his hair! Infact his urge to reveal his blue locks unbound the glamour that had dulled its colour and the brown drained away, revealing the azure stands that matched perfectly with his bright eyes. A few stands waved infront of his eyes and he bit his lip as he noticed the change, Araran would be vexed with him - his vanity and eagerness to show off had revealed them to the girl.

"Sorry father." he squeaked before his father could speak, hastily trying to repair the damage by shrugging on another firmer glamour, though this would only further damage their case and Araran gave him an almost disapointed look. Though he supposed it couldn't be helped, and it was better that Rioge had made the mistake infront of someone who would be a carer for an Ashe rather than a random mortal.

Raina studied Araran back, the same way he did her. He was rather handsome, as if from another world- exotic, refreshing. She would have liked to keep his company for a little longer, and his grin was warm, inviting. Still, there was a dark, enigmatic aura that drifted about him, and it scared her a bit, if not just for the Faustus that lay in her arms. She would do well to be careful around both of them.

She averted her eyes at his late reply, feeling like he didn't care much for her conversation, though she didn't mind. He was only a stranger, after all, though a rather eccentric one. However, when he introduced himself, she grinned despite and tilted her head in acknowledgement, her voice as soft as her expression,

"It's very nice to meet you, Araran, Rioge."

At Rioge's sudden smile, her grin grew wider. He was a curious child, and though she didn't approve of his attire or his habits very much, he seemed wholesome and fun-loving, and that alone was enough for her admiration. But when his hair changed color, she blinked- a trick of the light? But there was no mistaking it, it was a brilliant azure, just like his eyes. It was beautiful and deep and profound, yet it, too, frightened her a little, though her eyes stayed riveted.

"Wha..." was all she could say, her face flushed pale, her eyes wide. Was this boy, perhaps... an Ashe?

User ImageThe woman was quite polite, unusual amongst mortals in recent times. It was a relief to him, he would detest to see the Ashe growing up like a mortal. It would just make it harder when they had to return to their origins. He felt a little smug at the knowledge that his own charge would have to go through any awkward fitting in stage, he would always be experience in the court - perhaps that experience would aid him in their aim to make him a grand figure in the court. However, before that could happen he'd have to learn how to control his glamour fully.

He sighed and touseled the Ashe's hair, the child may of hated his hair being messed up but Araran would soon be forgiven, as always. Rioge pouted but said nothing brushing it back into place with his fingers. He was a little upset that he had dropped his glamour so carelessly. But atleast now he could ask the lady about her egg.

"Isit a seelie or unseelie?" He asked, hopping forwards a little and pointing at the egg. Araran frowned, it was very foward of Rioge to ask so bluntly, but he too was wondering. After all, a egg had arrived at the night court, he was sure, but an egg might also have been gifted to the day court.. Remaining calm Araran simply waited for a reply - if the girl knew what court her egg belonged to it would be a lot easier.

Raina paused, realizing she had a hand clamped over her heart. Taking it away reluctantly, she held both wrists around her egg protectively, not sure where to look. She swallowed. She knew that Ashes existed in this world, but to see it so bluntly, with her own eyes, still startled her very much. When she had met Julien, there was nothing out of the ordinary about him, except maybe his hair color and his eyes, but those could have been passed off as dye jobs- Rioge's hair was a brilliant blue that was definitely natural, she knew why he needed to hide it.

Looking up, she managed to catch the fatherly actions exchanged between the two and forced a meek smile, feeling her heart beating fast. It really had startled her, and she wondered: would Faustus do the same things?

"Unseelie or... Seelie...?" she murmured, mirroring his question with a look of confusion on her face. Those were the two fairy courts, she had read about them in fiction, but what did they have to do with Faustus? Or could it be that the Ashe were creatures of the fae? She drew in a breath, deliberately, casually.

"I don't know, I apologize."

User ImageSighing Araran edged closer, he was intreguied to see if the other court had another egg or not, but nervous as if he caused damage somehow then it would be his fault and the truce between day and night could shatter. He peered at the egg, though the woman seemed to be a little defensive, moving it away from him as if he were going to try and take it from her. Though luckily her doing so released it's wings, which had been pressed to it's sides before, and they fluttered in all their bat-like glory. He smiled, relieved that the ashe was an unseelie, just like his own Rioge. "They are the two courts of faerie, the dark court, Unseelie, and the light court, Seelies. Each ashe is aligned with one of the courts, just like normal fae... Like me."

Rioge beamed and ran up to the lady, no long held back by his father's tense attitude. "Your lucky Mrs, you've got an Unseelie ashe! Like me!" He cooed, dancing around her and looking at the egg. It appeared to have flowers clinging to the surface and Rioge found them very pretty. Rioge had never met an ashe at egg stage, though he had heard much about his own egg and marveled at the sketch Araran had drawn of it regulally. It was so exciting for him to finally meet a real life egg.

Araran bowed slowly to the woman before dispelling his own glamour - it was evidently ok to expose his faerie features now and he would hear anyone else coming before they had a chance to see him exposed. His moth-like wings twitched as he unveiled them, the sunlight playing over them beautifully. "We fae must hide our more, unusual, features with glamour. That is what concealed Rioge's hair from you, before he lapsed in control." He explained, the peircings that he had been wearing fading away to be replaced by his chin spikes.

When Araran sighed, Raina looked away, aware that she had disappointed him. But her body went on red alert when he stepped forward suddenly, causing her to tighten her grip on Faustus and move him away a little, freeing his wings. She watched helplessly as he studied them and smiled- was Faustus Seelie or Unseelie? What did the wings have to do with anything?

She listened intently to his speech and swallowed. Glamour, Ashes, Courts, Fae. He, Araran, was a fae? She was sure there was a mysterious aura about him, but she never would have guessed, after all- Mireille, Julien's guardian, was a mortal... wasn't she? Could she, herself have been the only mortal guardian of an Ashe? Raina frowned, her voice soft,

"I know about the two courts, but what need do the fae have to be aligned with them? What is there that causes indecisiveness between them?" she wondered aloud, looking to Araran for answers.

Raina relaxed as Rioge bounded up- she trusted him more for his childish nature, though it was rather biased of her. So Faustus was an Unseelie- wasn't that a bad thing? She cast the thought off her mind. If Rioge was an Unseelie, they couldn't have been that notorious. She giggled as he called her Mrs, shaking her head passively,

"You can call me Raina, Rioge, alright?"

She turned once again to Araran, and then she saw it. Beautiful, dusty wings, moth-like, elegant. His piercings had disappeared, and instead, spikes protruded from his chin. He was striking under the sunlight and she could not help but stare, unsure of what to say. He could have been a model.

User ImageAraran considered her interesting question; what need did faeries have to divide themselves. The girl, Raina, was very inquisitive - he had always imagined that regular mortals would simply ask frivolous questions on magic and the folklore that surrounded his kind, not the rather deep question that she had given to him. "It's difficult to explain. But we fae are more at ease in our own courts. The courts do not hate each other, in fact we do business with each other quite happily. But we cannot dwell with each other and so we separate ourselves." He decided to leave out the fact that the unseelies were more adverse to humans than their lighter brethren - it would most likely unnerve the young girl. Araran himself had nothing against mortals that didn't follow the majority - destroying and polluting nature, and from what he could see of Raina so far she seemed fair enough to be granted his approval.

"Rioge is right, you egg is inclined to our court. The wings more bat like. I've heard tell that the wings of Seelie eggs are bird like." He explained casually moving backwards into the woods again, this time perching on a stump, avoiding sitting on the delicate fungus creeping over it.

Nodding cheerily Rioge tugged on Raina's arm, "C'ummon Raina! Come talk with us. We can tell you loads about faeries." he urged, eager to please. This was thee first mortal guardian he could speak to properly, the others that he had met were all Seelie ashe guardians and his father had been wary of them. And she did seem very interested in them, especially when she had seen his father's wings - her eyes had gone wide in surprise! Surely she'd be itching to know more! Even he was a little jealous of the moth-like beauties on his father's back; though he hoped that in time he would get wings, and if not he would still have his beautiful hair to be proud of.

Raina let out her held breath as Araran appeared to think about what she asked, turning her eyes around the forest. It really was beautiful, though a little cryptic. The light was an amazing mixture of floating debris and pure sunshine, and though the shadows further in were a little unnerving, she rather preferred the muffled silence that fell about them. As Araran answered, she brought her gaze back to him.

She bit her lip, deciding not to pursue the question further. Araran and Rioge were both Unseelie, from what she could discern, but they weren't anything like the storybook kind, though Araran made her a little uneasy, handsome as he was. It would take only time to get her to trust him fully, now that she had an Ashe of her own to worry about. She smiled faintly, nodded at his answer. She at least understood that much.

At his statement about Faustus, she raised a brow, but couldn't hide her surprise further, moving her arms so she, herself, could get a better look at his wings. They were, indeed, bat-like.

"So that's it..." she tried to hide the fear in her voice- fear that she wouldn't be accepted, fear that he wouldn't love her. "H-he can be Rioge's companion when he emerges, then, can't he?"

She smiled fondly at Rioge, and followed his tugging, made her way closer to him.

"Yes, Rioge, you'll have a new friend very soon."

User Image The woman's tentative question about Rioge and her unborn Ashe becoming friends was replied to by Rioge lunging forwards and wrapping his arms around her legs, a grin plastered on his face. Evidently he agreed with that idea. "Yep! I can't wait," he exclaimed, letting go and standing on tiptoes to peek more closely at the egg that sat still in the woman's arms.

The flowers attached to it were a wonderful shade of colbalt against it's green shell and Rioge couldn't help but admire them. Rioge giggled as he saw his face reflected in the mirror-like surface, "your egg has blue flowers. I like blue. I wonder if you ashe will like blue too?" He pondered the thought - although the other ashe was an egg he still felt somewhat attracted to it, like they had so much in common already. They both had beautiful blue features, both belonged to the Unseelie court, and although none present knew it, they had both been given to the court on the same exotic breeze.

A slight murmur of apprehension was just about detectable in Raina's voice and Araran considered how she must be feeling; she was a mortal, thrown into a whole new world. Evidently she would be worried about lot's of things, the child given to her was after all part of the Unseelie court - infamous for their trickster attitudes and dislike for humans, he had himself described the Unseelie as the 'dark' court.. "You seem a very responsible person, and I'm sure that's why our court picked you." He commented, half to put her more at ease, but he also meant it genuinely. She had yet to do anything to make him think bad of her; in fact, her accepting and understandable attitude was quite admireable.

Raina softened with relief as Rioge seemed to be more than delighted to accept the offer. She looked up to Araran hestitantly before running her hand through his silky blue hair, patting his affectionately on the head. At him attempting to catch a better look, the female kneeled down so the egg was at his eye level, tilting her head towards the older fae in the back to signify he could come as well, if he wanted. She was beginning to loosen up.

At his question, Raina smiled faintly, looking up to catch his gaze,

"Your eyes and your hair are a beautiful blue, Rioge. I'm sure Faustus will like them when he finally emerges," she offered, brushing the hair from her face.

She stiffen at Araran's voice, but found herself relaxing when she brought her eyes up to him. His jawline was more noticeable, masculine when accented with the protruding spikes, but it was a lot more unique, said a lot more about the man than the piercings ever could. Her features fell into a thankful smile as she straightened up from her position.

"Thanks, Araran. It really means a lot," she admitted, looking towards the sheen of the egg in her arms. At first, she had been apprehensive about taking care of an Unseelie and caring for him as her own, but his intuition had seen through that, comforted her. He was nothing like the sweet man on the surface, but he reminded her a little of her lover, Dami.

User ImageRioge was practically electric with excitement and joy when Raina told him that Faustus would like his blue hair when he emerged and although it wasn't totally confirmed, after all Raina could only predict what her egg would like, Rioge was still happy to know that he had an Ashe that he could be friends with and even more pleased by the fact that this friend would like his eyes and most importantly, his hair.

Eager to interact further with the egg Rioge stood on tip-toes and pointed with a finger as the shell, wiggling it - itching to touch it. He didn't get too close though. He smiled sweetly at Raina. "May I touch?" Araran had taught him a lesson about not touching eggs without permission before. However it was with bird eggs rather than the fae variety and the result would probably be less extreme with the human, but he imagined that the principle was still the same.

He had found a birds nest once and had been attracted to the petite blue eggs inside. Unknowing of what he was doing he had taken them out and ever so gently had examined them. Araran had been horrified when he had found him, nestled in the undergrowth with the eggs surrounding him - a ring of blue. "Rioge! You silly boy!" he had exclaimed, "Now you've disturbed them the mother bird won't want them!" He had explained rather snappishly. Rioge gasped and hurriedly put them back into the nest, backing away from the scene a guilty expression all over his face. They had waited, hidden from view, a few metres a way and sure enough when the mother bird returned she flew off instantly, leaving her eggs - her children - to go cold. Rioge had burst into tears, distraught with himself for what his nosiness had caused.

He had found it hard to comprehend how the bird could do that to it's children but he had to assume that was how all mother's reacted in such situations - though maybe not in such extremity. But he had little experience with females, and so the lesson had made a lasting impression on his interaction on the opposite gender.. And seeing as he had already become quite attached to the little green egg he would not wish that Raina neglected it because of his foolish actions.
