Hey. Catrina/Vita here. I'm not really sure what sort of journal introduction should go here, so who knows, I may rewrite this a week from now. Anyway, I'm currently working on a group of poems. One of the teachers at my school has offered to help me send off some of my poetry to magazines to try to publish it, so I've been working on writing new stuff and editing like crazy. I'm also working on a novel at present, and I also write short stories. (Basically, I write a wide variety of stuff, both in form and genre/topic.)

If anyone's ever willing to read and give me feedback on any poetry/stories/whatever, I would love you forever. The only thing I ask is to be sure we've at least talked and stuff before so I know you a bit.

Anyway, brief intro to my novel so that some of my anticipated rambling here will make sense:
It's primarily set in the present-day real world (mainly New York, though there are sections elsewhere). The premise is that there is a series of planes, but the gates between them closed a long time ago. (The whole system is built off of the power of belief, and when belief began to fail, so did the gates.) Some characters were trapped on the wrong planes when certain gates closed, and ever since, they and their descendants have been trying to find a way home. Incredibly over simplified, but that's the basic idea.

Starting last night, I got a bit annoyed at how much I was ruining the meter in a poem I had been working on (about the Whore of Babylon), and went back to working on the novel. I finished off a chapter in which Cain and Evelyn are forced to interact civilly (albeit extremely awkwardly) when put into a bit of a crisis situation. It was a lot of fun to write, given their history of not getting along very well and knowing what I'm planning to do with them (they become closer friends, then he betrays both Evelyn and Sera, and in the process murders Evelyn.). Once I finished that one up, I was able to move on to the next chapter, at which point I had this amazing idea that Dr. Alicia Quick, a minor character whom I was only going to use for maybe six pages tops, would be absolutely perfect to later use as the fake prostitute who works with Cain as a spy. It was such an exciting, awesome realization, and now I'm having a great time starting to flesh out her character and personality. (She's going to be a total dork.) I love when connections that should have been obvious from the start (but I missed somehow) just sort of jump out and become perfect.

It's so exciting, isn't it? When you have amazing realizations that are about to change your story for the better? I love it. I love it almost more than writing.

I definitely agree. And thanks for the welcome!

I've been obsessively watching the Olympics, so I haven't gotten as much written the past few nights as I had hoped to. (Also, I spent a couple hours last night downloading a bunch of old theme songs from shows I watched when I was little. Hooray for bizarre ways of passing time.) Anyway, I'm a bit stuck at the moment trying to figure out a complication/alternative to DNA that would be some sort of protein strand to allow a character's body to conduct strong currents of electricity. Obviously it's not realistic, but I've got scientists studying the girl, and they need a strange discovery here. Hrm. (It really doesn't help that in my mind, physics>biology.)

Plus, I should stop slacking on college/scholarship apps at some point.
Speaking of which, I got application materials in the mail today from one of my top choices. Eeeee.

Yesterday was an absolutely horrible day.

My dad's house got robbed. Nobody was hurt, luckily, not even the cat. However, they took practically all of the electronics, money, and various other small semi-valuable things (watches, etc), and now the whole house is torn apart with things thrown everywhere. So now I'm freaked out in general. Plus, in terms of writing, I had a document full of poems saved on the computer at his house, dammit. Eeep.

Oh no! I'm glad no one was hurt though. That must have been horrible!

And while you're trying to apply to college no less!

My brain is so frazzled, so forgive the, well, frazzled nature of this post.

I hate college apps and application essays and supplement essays. Except that's completely not true because most of these are actually fun to write and I'm twisting them around in the weirdest ways; I still don't want to have to do them though, and I hate how I'm not getting much else done in terms of writing.

I want to just be able to sit down and rant to someone about this story, but I want it to be someone who has actually read it and can be helpful because if I just start going, "Well, Cain was going to blahblahblah," people will just react with a "Wait, who's Cain? I'll just nod." But even if I can rant to someone who has read it, I know I'll start rambling about things I'm planning and they'll still be so confused. I wish brains were like radios and we could just tune into the right frequency and hear what people were thinking at us, because it would make conversations like this a lot easier.

So in the interest of rambling, I figured out how to transition from Cain, Sera, and Evelyn just chilling in Cain's apartment a lot to being on the run, but that's going to involve this crazy invisible guy. He's not so much invisible as not fully on this plane, because he can kind of slip between them, but obviously not full-out travel with the connectors destroyed. Maybe a long time ago people with his defect could've traveled, without the gates. He's from the same plane as electricity-girl (who appeared briefly in chapter one, then again for a minute in four), whom I think I'm naming Nina; they've all got screwy DNA over there. The only problem is how to get Mike to know about invisi-man (who is still nameless) if nobody can, y'know, actually see him most of the time. (He can be fully visible, but usually chooses not to be. Even when he is, he's like... shimmery.) I don't even know if this'll end up making sense.

Wow, well I hope everything gets less frazzled for you and I am sure everything will turn out right when you get your mind to it!

Keep up the good work!

Frazzle happens to the best of us. You're surviving and not going crazy.

Ahaha, I talk people's ears off all the time, basically rambling to myself. It's something else to overhear, I' sure.

Thanks guys. :]

I love the idea behind the new character journals forum. I've posted a journal for one character so far, but I'm going to wait for any others so that I'm not completely dominating the forum. XD

A couple days ago, I wrote a spur-of-the-moment poem on the Writing Contests subforum and ended up winning a dark halo. I haven't had a chance to write much lately, but I thought that was pretty damn nifty.

Whoa! High five on that dark halo! it looks SMASHING on you, btw ^^.
