Have Pets? What are they? Want to post cute stories or questions? Go for it.

The Cats:
Hector and Mache were about a year old and someone abandoned them. They were sick and literally starving to death, having clearly been indoor cats with no coping skills for the outside world. They had strings around their necks digging into skin. Hector was nearly blind from an eye infection, and Mache had a respiratory thing. They both had worms. My friends had four cats and there was a box on their patio that their cats used for snoozing. Hector and Mache curled up in it, probably to die. It was a cold February and they were so thin. My friends couldn't take them, so we did. I cut the strings off their necks and fed them human grade tuna and got them better medical care than I gave myself. I spent years healing the psychological scars from their former humans and the abandonment, and I am not sorry. They are reall sweeties, loyal and intelligent.

My roommate moved in with his two, who are now 3ish. Little Miss and FB (aka the Butt) are long integrated into the household now. LM would like to topple Mache as hed cat, but Mache isn't having it. FB has the mentality of a 6th month old kitten. he fails to grasp that he's now huge and that he has mass and volume. he make more chaos and does more damage than the other three put together. LM looks after him and the others tolerate him. He periodically does so outrageous that the other three just stare, flabberghasted.

The Fish:
I have three girl bettas and three boys, some cories, a pleco, a bunch of tetras, a loach, some otos, and too many platys. Obviously, I do not keep these all in the same tank. The minority fish are community tank survivors. platys swell to fit any tanks on offer as really the males spend all day trying to mate. i basically have tetras because they are pretty and bettas ignore them. I am seriously into bettas, but have no luck breeding them, alas.

The Cats
My sister is the cat person. She has three. Jessie is timid and almost never leaves my sister's room. I mean, at all. Her food, water, and litterbox are in there, so there's no reason for her to wander anywhere else. The other cats tolerate her, for the most part, though they'll occassionally jump her. Dexter is a grumpy older cat, rather sickly and hyper-thin. Before he left, my brother-in-law tormented all the cats mercilessly, but Dexter took the brunt of it. Consequently, Dexter is terrified of me, since I'm male. I also chase him out of my room, because he likes to get up on shelves and knock things over. Jared was an indoor-outdoor farm cat before coming to live with us. Now he, like all the others, is an indoor-only cat, and he's swelled up HUGE. He doesn't seem unhealthy, but he's definitely overweight. He looks bigger than he really is, thanks to his long, puffy hair. It's really funny to watch him waddling along. Finally, there's my cat, Loki Selena. She was a wee kitten when I rescued her from a park tree and brought her home. I tried to give her to my sister, but she wouldn't have it. The cat, that is, my sister wanted her. No, Loki decided I was her human, and there just wasn't any way to talk her out of it. She chases the other cats out of my room and takes over my bed whenever I'm not actually sleeping. She gets along fine with Jared, for some reason, but really hates Dexter and Jessie.

The Dog
My dog is named Duke. He's a mutt who has some very odd coloring. Mottled brown and black on most of his body, his legs are almost white, but with orange-brown spots. Like a giraffe. He was about a year old when I got him (rescued him from an abusive and neglectful owner), very energetic and rambunctious. He's mellowed quite a bit in the last couple years, to the point where I can take him for a walk on the leash without getting an arm pulled out of the socket. I walk him around the neighborhood every morning at 4, because if I don't, he pouts and huffs. Most mornings, he gets to the door before I do, so even if I wanted to sneak out without him, there'd just be no way. Like every dog we've ever owned, he looks to Mum as his primary human, but I'm definitely his direct superior. I feed him, make sure he has fresh water, put him out when he needs to go, and walk him. All Mum does is give him his nightly medicine (to control his seizures) and, unfortunately, table scraps (I keep begging her not to feed him human food). Yet he chooses to sleep at the foot of her bed 90% of the time. Ah well. More room for me to stretch out, I guess.

I tried to mate two of the bettas tonight. I was called away at the crucial moment, so I missed if they really mated. He's acting like he thinks he did, so I've put her in a recovery tank.

*fingers crossed*

We have a cat named carrot. She is our darling seizure kitty. We found out after we got her that she was epileptic. that is very unusual in cats.
She is a year and 4 months old and the sweetest cat and most laid-back cat of her age i've seen. Of course some of that is the fact that she is medded.

and that's her

I'm suspecting the mating failed.

I've been here before a few times

My babe (Shotgun, dad named him D<):
[x]
[x]

He doesn't usually lay on me like in the first one, but I love him so much. My greatest fear is that he will die while I'm away at college. He's getting pretty old now, but he still moves a lot and catches animals, so he should be ok for now.

Poop (Panzer, my dad's dog):
[x]
[x]

I got bored that day and decided to wrap him up. XD He's one year now, and thinks he's as big as a chihuahua or something tiny like that. XD

And I'm quite aware we're dying

Beta are super hard to breed. I tried to breed a fan-tail beta, but the female I put in with him ate his fins off and killed him. sweatdrop

It takes a month for the lady fish to make enough eggs. I have a girl I could mate with Sarpedon, but it's too late in the week. I have an extra mate for Achilleus, but I'm not convinced she's ready.
