Dear MSNBC, Chris Matthews, and Panelists,

Playgirl should not have gone out of business years ago just because gay men buy it. Having gay clientèle is not the kiss of death, nor is giggling and making jokes when gay men are mentioned appropriate to adults on a 21st century news show. You are not in elementary school, nor are you time warped to the '70's where those attitudes were widespread, though still not professional or acceptable. Not cool, Gentlemen and Ladies.

Seriously, the illogic of saying that having more audience than originally expected causes financial problems hurts my head, but it was the snickering about the assumed sexual orientation of the models and the tastelessness of the "jokes" that pinged my rage meter.

No Love,
One of your Queer viewers.

Why do you watch shows like this? The only reason this childishness is on the air is because there are viewers willing to tune in and sit through it.

If you're enraged by such trash, write to the network. Write to your local affiliate. Then go one step further: write to their sponsors. Without advertising money, they won't be on the air very long.

I was tuning in to watch the show after it and caught the last segment or so.

Dear people.

LGBTWFTBBQ is simply too ******** long. Not everyone needs their own letter. Umbrella terms suit very well. If not, make up a single umbrella term for the lot of you.

Next issue: I don't have to love you. I don't even have to like you. Stop expecting me to shoot rainbows out of my a** simply because you say you're gay etc. I decide who I like on a person by person basis. I am not a bigot simply because I think you're a t**t. Stop calling me one. Not everything bad that happens to you is because you are different. Not everyone who doesn't like you bases it solely on your sexual orientation.

Okay, I'm going to address this briefly (I hope). First off, yes, everyone needs their own f*cking (watch your language, btw) letter. A lesbian isn't bisexual. A bisexual woman isn't a lesbian. Neither of them are gay men. Umbrella terms can be nice, but they don't address the issue of identity. The whole world doesn't fit into broad categories. People should have the right to call themselves whatever the h*ll they d*mned well please.

You're right, you don't have to love me. You don't even have to like me. What I do ask for, however, is that you respect my right to be other than you, in whatever manner. That doesn't mean you have to shoot rainbows out of your *ss when I tell you I'm gay. It does mean I expect you to act like a decent human being.

And really, you should censor your language use a bit. Gaia has all these rules and regulations that can get you censured or banned. This isn't a threat or even a warning, just unsolicited friendly advice. Err on the side of caution.

Lets break down how many letters you could end up with.

Gay
Bisexual
Lesbian
Pansexual
Omnisexual
Asexual
Transgender
Transsexual
Fluid
Two spirit
Genderqueer
Androgyne
Dual gender
Bi gender
Queer
Questioning

Starting to see the issue here? Thats not even the full list.

I don't have to respect you either. I don't have to respect anyone. I'm for equal rights but beyond that, I don't owe any group a bloody thing.

I've been here before a few times

Phail. Gaia has no rules against cussing. This guild may or may not (I didn't THINK I saw a no cussing rule), but Gaia allows as many cuss words as you like. Even the complete ban on the word "*****" didn't last very long.

I've been here before a few times

I just want to let you guys know where I stand on this.

I agree with Spoot. No reason why we can include one word for sexual orientation (non-heterosexual), and one for transgender. Two letters are better than four, and are a hell of a lot less annoying than five.

And yes, the non-straight non-cis people that expect me to love and respect them for something they didn't achieve are ********. The only thing they deserve for something they didn't choose or work for is equal rights and no harassment.

And I'm quite aware we're dying

(all emphasis mine)

If you don't know the difference between respecting a person and respecting a person's rights, I pray you never end up in any way making public policy.

As for the alphabet soup, why do you even care? Is someone standing behind your chair, with a gun to your head, forcing you to type all those letters? Does it hurt your little brain to have to read them when someone else types them? Here's an idea. If it bothers you so much, don't troll forums about the subject.

I've been here before a few times

I never said they WERE the same. I just said people who think I should respect them because they're gay/trans are dumbasses. I said myself they deserve equal rights for something they didn't choose to be.

If you meant the general form of "you" in that line, then I apologize for attacking that statement as if it were saying "you" as in me and Spoot.

Put too many letters in, and people will start to get annoyed. You'll lose their attention before you can even get to the good part. All for the good of the community to keep the name short. Hardly anybody wants to take the time to know a 5-7 letter acronym anymore, and if we want them to know and actually give a crap about us, we need to give a name that will match us and suit them.

I'll ignore the flaming and insults for the benefit of the conversation. But just so you know, they don't actually make for good debates.

EDIT: It REALLY pisses me off when people edit out my color and cute little quotes around my post. Try not to do that too often, ok? I see it as really mean. They're there for a reason, please keep them there.

And I'm quite aware we're dying

Which kinda sucks, because bigots have turned the work "queer" into an insult.

No, queer started out as an insult and is being reclaimed.

Still, I am rather impressed with the giant title I made.
