Just a quick poll to see who plays what for the hell of it!
P.S. Since there's so many variations of wind instruments and such, I lumped them into Woodwinds and Brass.

Alto Sax has always been my primary, though I'll play any of the other saxes as needed. I do some clarinet, working on flute. What's going to be weird is when I start up trumpet lessons this coming semester.

Well... confused my "main" instrument now is drums, but back when I was in jazz band in high school, my main instrument then was trumpet... so for jazz I'm going to say trumpet but for everything else it's all about drums for me.

I play drums. Someone said that rock drummers play "beats" and that jazz drummers play drums. I completely agree with that other than a few exceptions, but these days that saying is becoming more and more true and the exceptions few and far between.

petermann55 im a bari man. so good when bop sounding and depending on the.. well its just like let it roar, let the sexy beast roar wink xd Bari is a lot of fun to play. You hit that low A and you just feel the power! My only complaint about it though is that the parts written for it tend to be a bit lame.

Hey not all bigbands have boring Bari parts... just look at a Stan Kenton tune. I've played in alot of bigbands i just like the sound although that doenst mean i dont play in combos. Anywho that's true any solo in Eb will do Bob Mintzer has some cool jazz/funk/blues etudes in Eb. They're pretty complicated too 3nodding

And I feel your joy there, too, with the power, lol... that's why I like my 5-string bass.

flute player here. I've been working on my improvisation. It's hard being a jazz flutist. It seems that we only fit into a certain type of mix. I don't know any other jazz flutists in my area to learn from so I just kinda have to make my own way.

A jazz flutist who's pretty damn good plays on that album. biggrin He's no huge name or anything, but he does his job well, and plays in most songs.
