Whenever I try to draw a 3/4 view head, it comes out looking child-like or chibi, and that is not what I wanted.

Can anyone assist?

PS: Sorry for the shabby looking picture. First time on friend's tablet.

I think that the BIGGEST problem, is that the top of the head is way to big, and the face is too on-center, especially the nose. Children and chibbis tend to have really large eyes, which might just be yuour problem. Though often times, after you add in hair or play around with eye-brows, it looks more sophisticated. The ear also seems like it should be placed a little further up. That's all I can see, so I hoped this helped, but aside from that I think you did a great job.

My personal opinion [from my own perspective] is you need to move the whole face up so that the eyes match with the indentation on the left [where your forehead and cheekbone meet] and push the nose
further left toward that indentation. You can do a dramatic turn, or a slight turn depending on what you want. And given that, you may even want to eliminate an eye and make it sillhouette or shadowed.

I assumed left since that's where your character is looking. I wish I had one of those computer tablets. You did a good job! Much better than I probably would do, just messing and doodling.

When I begin to sketch, I make the top of the head big. Then when I am fixing it or progressing further in the drawing, I erase it. The "big head" is only there just to help me get things started.

So should I move the eyes a bit more and make them smaller?

Heh, I guess you answered my question about moving the eyes up a little more.

What do you mean?

Haha, seriously? It's only my first time using a table. I have only began getting used to it. sweatdrop

If it's alright, can someone provide and outline with corrections?

umm....first of all how do you usually start drawing your heads? it looks like to me you just start drawing the head itself.

Yes, I start drawing the head first, then I fill it in with the eyes, nose, and mouth.

I draw the top of the head big at the beginning but like I said, that is just for sketching and temporary purposes. When I begin drawing the hair, I either lower it down or erase the top part.

uhh, ur problem is that the top is wayyyyy too big. Yu make the head too long. just make a shape like an upside down egg sort of shape, and yu can then erase a lil bit of one side for the indentation, in the middle of the head, cuz thats where the eyes shud be, ne?
