There's a dock you can open up that will focus on layers. It'll have a button for making a new layer, deleting one, duplicating it, and even moving its position. It also have a list of settings for your layers. But to get the hang of layers, it takes practice. Just play around with them and see what you like.

Awesome, people here actually know about GIMP. Great!! I actually run a graphic design union on gamestop, called Designers Central, and my officers and I teach people how to use design programs and hold competitions. But what a surprise to see people here having the program as well.

Does anyone have an idea for the perfect path tool brush size?? I've heard that it's better to use the .5 sizes for fade, but .5 is too choppy for me and 1.5 is too thick!!
Anyone know the perfect line size??

I say experiment to find what you like. Each person has their own way of doing things. I know of people who do only digital work. Me, I prefer to ink my work on paper than scan it in.
But personally, I actually use the ink tool (the little ink pot) if I'm inking digitally. It lets me fool around with the width and nibs, and with my tablet, it responds to my pressure and speed. It acts a lot like a real pen so I don't have to worry about my lines coming out oddly because I've already worked out my technique. Plus, I find editing my lines easier with it.
