Today was Nintendo's conference at E3,
during which information on the Wii's Animal Crossing title has finally been released!
Hurrah!

Here's a bit of compiled information by another dedicated Gaian:

GeneralBlue
The title of the new AC game is "Animal Crossing: City Folk" and it introduces the ability to go into town for a shopping spree amongst a huge plethora of new things along with returning elements that were in the original, got dropped in Wild World, but return for City Folk (Halloween/Christmas events!). It will also be the first Wii game to utilize "WiiSpeak," a new Voice Chat Program available to the Wii. Meaning you can chat to other players in the AC world!

Best news is it seems to be slated for a simultaneous world release (meaning we get it at the same time as Japan) sometime before the end of 2008!

Wikipedia's article has a few bits of info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Crossing:_City_Folk

And then I personally have made a guild (well, I made it some time ago) dedicated specifically to the title. I'll be keeping its list of features updated whenever I hear about new/returning features. You can find a link to that here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/index.php?guild_id=44639

Additionally, here are some IGN links:

Article on the coverage
Screenshots (there are two pages)
(VIDEO) City Life Trailer!

Animalxing.com also has compiled a fair bit of information in list form.

Quote:
Nintendo's conference is over, and Animal Crossing: City Folk was announced and presented.

Here's what we know so far:

Graphics got an update. A definite jump over previous versions of the game.

Still looks like only 8 designs at the Able Sisters.

Fossils return.

Bedroom and telephone in the upstairs of the house, like in AC:WW.

Holidays are back. Bunny Day (you dig up bunny eggs), Halloween, and New Years have been revealed.

You take a bus to get to the city.

Villagers appear to roam the city.

There is an auction house, presided over by a gyroid named Lloid. You can put up your own items for auction.

There is a happy room academy building, presided over by Lyle, which lets you see what other players are doing (we assume this is decorating-wise).

Gracie makes her return a store called GracieGrace. Apparently Gracie is too chic to run it herself, and a character named Labelle runs it.

Harriet has a beauty shop you can visit to change your hairsyle, or even get a mask that looks like your Mii!

Communication is big. You can write letters to players and attach pictures, which can be sent to their towns, Wii Message boards, their computers, and even their cell phones.

New microphone called WiiSpeak. It is billed as a "community microphone" which will allow everyone in the room to speak to everyone in the rooms of people you're playing with.

There is a new clock/calendar design. Instead of being on the bottom right of the screen, it will be on the top left.

That's what we know so far! Hopefully, AC:CF will be playable on the show floor and more impressions and information will flood in in the next few days.

Enjoy~

And the ledges return! Ho-rah!

...No real comments than my mental chant of "out by Christmas" and general happiness.

November 16th actually, according to Nintendo's E3 Game Info Page on their website. A link to my source on its release date can be found here at the Nintendo E3 page.

I've got as much official released info as possible up in the guild I set up for AC:CF. I put it in an "Official Info" tab in there.

Cant wait!!!

I am so excited for this game I can't even put it into words. November/December can't get here soon enough!

I'm not sure how I feel about the chat thing though...I'm not a big chatter when I play. I hope that it is not 'required' for play. I'll get it if it is, but I can't guarantee I'll say anything on it. Still, the town looks neat and the auction too. So I guess we can "visit" other towns even when our friends aren't on? That would be cool. Although, I'm sure more "friend codes" are in our future, thats what guilds like this are for, right? 3nodding Until it comes out, I'll be devouring any and all information I can find.

I feel the same about the chatting.
Sometimes I just don't really want to physically talk to the person I'm playing with.
Typing out dialogue feels more natural in a video game...

...How weird is that?
xd

And as others are saying,
I really hope that there's some connectivity between the Wii and DS.

*runs around in circles*
it's too bad these two games aren't compatible, WW and CF.
I'm *hopefully* getting a wii for christmas so I can play CF.

The WiiSpeak thing is sold separately, and it is not necessary in order to communicate.

USB keyboards are compatible, so you can type messages much faster (unless...you can't type fast)

The video I saw didn't show a third type, but I assume there's an onscreen keyboard if you don't have WiiSpeak or a USB keyboard.

I'll probably use my USB keyboard. If I make a lot of friends that use the WiiSpeak, I might get one, but probably not.

There are gameplay videos on YouTube.

There is an on-screen keyboard, much like the AC:GCN one.

I read about a USB keyboard also....so do you just get ANY USB keyboard? Or is there going to be Wii-keyboard? I wonder if you can get a wireless one....otherwise I'd need a very long cord.

Any USB keyboard will work. The Wii has two USB ports in the back of the console that you would plug it into there.

If you have a wireless keyboard, but it's little wireless hub plugs into a USB port, you should be fine.
