Ahaha, initiation?
For my band, it was just the first day of band camp where you learned to march and stuff. Although if you're lucky you can get claimed by any of the other grades as 'their freshman'...I ended up being like, ten people's freshman last year XD
Although I don't know how your band is, initation is *usually* just something to scare the heck out of freshman who have no idea it's just made up. Like Freshman Friday.

They intimidate you and send you home wishing you didn't know what a flat circle was and with every muscle aching XD
It's okay, it shouldn't be too bad.

muahahahahahahahahah..... no just playing
-daydreams....- to be a rookie again....
but anyway. not to scare you or anything but i know our school brought in a little good natured dose of hazing (my rookie year was actually the last to do it). for us it was mainly stuff like pushing ice cubes down the halls at our school, standing up on tables singing various things (ie marry had a little lamb, twinkle twinkle little star) during lunch in front of the whole band and carrying the seniors instruments. nothing to horrible, just stuff designed to make you a little red in the face; but not hurt.
also seniors would be made the "mentors" of said new rookies to show them the ropes, talk to them, spend time with them. generally making them feel apart of the group. that tradition (unlike the hazing) is still in effect today, 8 years later. my rookie year, for me, was probably the hardest year of my marching life, but i wouldn't trade it for the world. good luck and believe me, whatever happens, it'll be great.

It's when the upperclassmen stuff you into a trash can out in the middle of the school parking lot in the heat at high noon and leave you to rot. twisted
Ah, I'm just kidding. Initiation is usually when the freshmen get to know each other and the rest of the band, and quell any fears they might have about marching. They learn what is needed of them during the season and how they can contribute to the band.
Usually there aren't any pranks/hazing...it depends on the school and on what section you're in. The low brass at my old high school was notorious for bringing freshmen who thought themselves better than everyone else down a few pegs. The BDs looked the other way unless it became too vicious or if someone could get hurt.

I'm a junior this year, so I get to make the freshman suffer! >_> <_<
lol Just playing, I think your friend meant the first day of marching band, its the hardest for everyone.
it was the worst for me because I played the sousaphone, and I missed the first 10 minuets when they thought how to assemble the bells.
So poor little me Dident put his bell on eek
Hopefully you'll get used to it :3
