Colors are always an important part of our daily lives, so let's learn a few words for different types of colors today!

color - màu
red - (màu) đỏ
yellow/gold - (màu) vàng
black - (màu) đen
white - (màu) trắng
gray - (màu) xám
purple - (màu) tía
pink - (màu) hồng
brown - (màu) nâu
orange - (màu) cam
blue/sky blue/green - (màu) xanh

(When saying colors or using them as adjectives, you have to add the word "color," or "màu," at the beginning. This denotes that it is a color.)

Note: The Vietnamese word for blue refers to three colors in English: blue, sky blue, and green. However, in Vietnamese, these colors can be differentiated by adding more definition:

blue - xanh biển (Literally: blue of the ocean)
sky blue - xanh trời (Literally: blue of the sky)
green - xanh lá cây (Literally: blue of the leaves)

Note: Do not use these colors to describe animals. Specific adjectives connect with certain animals to create the correct choice. For example:

A black horse in Vietnamese is "con ngựa đen," but a black dog in Vietnamese is not "con chó đen," neither is a black cat a "con mèo đen." In reality, they are:

black dog - con chó mực (Literally: an inky dog)
black cat - con mèo mun (Literally: an ashy cat)

You can use the actual color to describe the animal. However, be warned that it will be incorrect.
