Syntax

(There are still mistakes!)

Vietnamese is a SVO, or a Subject-Verb-Object. For example, let's use English as an example:

English: I like pie.

Here, "I" is the subject. "Pie" is the object. "Like" is the verb, which tells you what "I" is doing to "pie."

In Vietnamese, it is the same.

Adjectives, however, follow after nouns. For example:

English: I like frozen pies.
Vietnamese: I like pies frozen.

Adverbs follow the verb in Vietnamese, but after the adjectives:

English: I like frozen pies a lot.
Vietnamese: I like pies frozen a lot.

Note: In Vietnamese, a plural noun is the same as a singular noun. However, there are sometimes exceptions.

Prepositions and objects of the prepositions are grouped up in the same way as English:

English: in the car
Vietnamese: in car

Note: Article adjectives (such as "a," "an," and "the") do not exist in Vietnamese. However, classifiers (another subject) do.
