Are Gaara and Naruto best friends in Shippuuden or not because you don't see much of Gaara after the war in the first season?

Do you mean in general, or after the certain event? If you meant in general, I think they're weren't best friends, but at least on a mutual understanding basis. They've both seen and felt the same things, so they understand each other, but they aren't necessarily friends. And then Gaara started to change

Well Naruto's "best friend" Would be the stupid little uchiha sasuke. But For Gaara his first and best friend would have to be Naruto.
