"What's this one?" Julien called out back to the path from where he squatted over a frilly, bright-pink flower. He looked back over his shoulder, the curls on his head tumbling into his eyes and he stuck out his jaw, blowing up until they fanned away.
"A carnation, I think," Mireille said hesitantly, moving to pad off the path for the dozenth time to come see the flower he was peering at. "I think, anyway," she repeated. "Flowers really aren't my thing, Jules. Do you want to get a book about them, so you can know for sure?"
Julien just chuckled, shaking his head. "Can I choose the book we get?" he asked, moving to slip a hand into hers as they both straightened, and she squeezed his hand lightly, smiling down at him.
"Absolutely, Jules. We'll go by the bookstore on the way home, okay?" she said, tugging him back toward the path.

Having sneaked out while Xare was busy dealing with the day-to-day chores that living amongst the humans involved, Zaden approached the park with a light step and a silly grin on his face. He was careful to use the little bit of glamor that he had finally learnt how to use in order to shield himself - mostly - from prying human eyes. It would be rather awkward for people to see a blue-haired boy with no adult running around.
Xare would probably be extremely annoyed when she found him, but until then it was worth the fun of being out, alone. It was such an adventure!
Walking along the path, Zade paid scant attention to the people infront of him, looking only now and then to make sure he wasn't running head on into anyone. The playground, he knew, should be close...
Oh, no.
Zade suddenly came to an abrupt stop. He recognized someone. It was the Ashe who had lent him the sweater and his guardian. Looking around, he quickly dodged behind the nearest tree, hoping they hadn't seen him.

Almost as though he had radar, Julien's head came up and around, staring at the tree where Zaden was hiding for several long seconds. He was still smiling, eyes still full of that good humor that Mireille had come to be so used to... the boy never seemed to be out of sorts! And then he looked away again, tugging on Mireille's arm until she leaned down enough for him to murmur into her ear. "Someone's playing hide and seek over there, I think," he offered, pointing to the tree.
Mireille chuckled, straightening and ruffling the white curls atop his head. As she did so, for a moment, there was a flash of pointed ears - Julien was using no glamour at all, instead trusting in the normal nature of his hair to hide the only appendages that were too inhuman. And then the curls settled back into place, and the ears were gone again. "No one else seems to be heading that way," she noted. "Do you want to go try to join in the game?"
Julien nodded in delight, already slipping free of Mireille to head over to the tree. Maybe if he 'found' whoever it was, they'd let him join in... or at least share the hiding place. "Stay close!" he heard Mireille call out, and waved to her in answer as he reached the tree.

Oh no oh no oh no ohnohnohnohno! They were coming closer. One of them - probably Julien, as glamor didn't seem to work quite as well amongst other Fae and Ashe - had noticed his hiding place behind the tree. Or perhaps... they hadn't?
Zaden edged around the tree slowly, trying his best to keep it between him and the approaching pair. Maybe if he could get over to the side nearest the path, he could just slip in amongst all those people. Julien and his guardian would never know that he was even there.
Too deep in thought, he failed to notice an upraised tree-root in time, and was sent sprawling sideways into the flower patch near the side of the path. Drat. Putting on as innocent a face as he could, he looked up at the two that were now almost upon him.
"Why, fancy seeing you two here! It's a nice day out, isn't it?" If he could only keep the conversation steered away from the topic of Xare and the fact that he was here alone, everything would be alright. He hoped.

Julien grinned at Zaden, holding out a hand to help him up. "Who are you playing with?" he asked, glancing around for someone to come find them. And then, before Zaden could even answer, Julien decided, "We should probably find a better hiding place, don't you think? It's really easy to see you right now."
Mireille just watched the two in indulgent amusement. For the moment, at least, it hadn't seemed to occur to her that Zaden seemed to be without guardian.
