It was a nice spring day, with little to no clouds and a light breeze that ruffled the grass, and the leaves on the trees. It was a day that was to be perfect and one that should bring happiness. A day that could persuade even the grumpiest of soquili to be happy and entice them to frolic. But even under all of these circumstances there was one soquili who at that moment had no hope of feeling those things.
Edward was not one to mope or be depressed. He actually thought those feelings to be stupid and so he lived for the adventure and the questions that came from his adventures. But he was lonely, which brought about a hint of depression and sadness that lingered like a bad after taste.
He missed her. He really and truly did. He had left her not even a few days ago and now he felt like this. How horrible is that? Quite, his own mind answered his own question. Charlamagne was his only true friend and one of the first soquili he had the chance of meeting since coming to this island, and he was missing his friend. Moving his amber colored eyes over the field he had found himself in he found nothing but emerald green grass that swayed, and patches of green clover hidden amongst the grasses. A sigh threatened to emerge, showing to the world that he was bored and lonely, but he quelled it. What to do, what to do?

Despite what a nice day it was, one mare wasn't feeling as happy as she would normally be. In hopes of cheering herself up, she went out on one of her walks she takes regularly every day, albeit a bit slower this time around. After some time, she finally made it to a green meadow, and by that time, she had worked up quite the appetite... she was now eating for three now. With a tired nicker, she lowered her head and began to graze for awhile.
After some time had passed, she felt herself less hungry, but still feeling lonely and confused. Charlamagne sighed and looked to her extended belly a bit forlornly. Now, it wasn't that she didn't want the foals, she just had hoped to have that someone special when she had them. Which brought up the thought of their father. Edward. She wasn't sure of her true feelings for him, but right now, she seemed to be a bit sad without him around. Shaking her head, she slowly moved along further into the field.

Gold eyes looked to the sky, gazed at the blue and white that was overhead and battled down the sigh that threatened to come out. The green grass that he would have loved to snack on any other day was swaying with every change in the wind. Ed began a slow ambling walk in some random direction, out into the meadow it looked like, and gazed at the trees in the distance. His eyes then moved slowly across the meadow, taking in how nice the day was, and how depressing his mood is.
Ed would have missed it; he would have really, if it had been any color than what it was. A white speck in his vision was off to the side of him, grazing it seemed, and a bubble of hope rose in his chest, threatening to overtake his thought process. What if it was her? There was a possibility wasn’t it? He thought how many soquili were white and black like that, in her certain way?
A smile was soon finding itself a place on his face, and he gained a new direction; towards that dot that was quickly becoming a soquili in his vision. He ended up galloping towards the other horse in the meadow, and slowed to a stop a few feet away. His braid was starting to come undone with all this running but he couldn’t care. “Hello?”

Though it felt like a year to the mare, she finally came to a new grazing spot. She knew that if her spotted lion companion was with her, he would have either forced her to stay at their teepee, or at least made her take it easy. She knew he would because she felt that was the right thing too, but something was telling her to move, not wanting to be in the confine of the teepee.
Charlamagne was completely unaware of the other that was also in the meadow as she lowered her head to graze once again. Pulling up some grass, she chewed on it slowly and thoughtfully, as if savoring every single blade in her mouth.
Hearing hoofbeats heading toward her, and fast, her ears perked up and she quickly looked in the direction they were coming from. That's when she saw it. At first it was just a red dot, but as it got closer, it became more distinct. Her heart started skipping beats as she thought she recognized the other. Something red billowing from the other horse, blonde mane and tail, a braid. It just had to be him. It was when the other had stopped some distance away from her that it was confirmed. "Hello."

Edward slowed his pace as he got closer to the mare. It had to be her, who else would have eyes as bright as hers and spots that covered her back. But, this mare was also very, er, different. A bit larger if you get his meaning. But, what if he was wrong and it was her? Supposedly she could have gotten that big in the time they had been apart, but she would have had to have eaten a lot.
“Charl, is that you?” Of course he would ask. She had to be Charl, and his heart sped up in anxious excitement. He didn’t care if she had gotten larger, it’s not like she was pregnant. He blushed as thoughts of foals that looked like him and Charl came to mind, which he quickly shook out. Of course she probably didn’t feel that way about him, but in his heart he knew that he cared for her deeply and would do anything for her.

She just stood there as the stallion got closer to her. She found herself breathing heavily as more and more, the form got familiar. The coat was a dead give-away. It was Edward! Her heart fluttered happily at the sight of him and she smiled softly.
At his question, she opened her mouth to answer him, but thought of her current form and promptly closed it. What if he didn't like what he saw? Feeling conscious about this, she stepped back some, almost as if trying to hide herself from him. But she knew she couldn't hide it from him too long, with a nervous sigh, she replied. "Yeah, it's me... Edward."

Ed’s smile took over his entire face, and forgetting that this mares appearance was different, he couldn’t help running up to her and giving a quick hug/nuzzle. A second after he did it he jumped back and blushed. “Sorry, I am just really happy to see you again, ya know?”
Getting a closer look at her he quickly remembered what he had almost forgotten. “So, uh, how have you been? You’ve kind of changed a bit…” He said after a few seconds of observation and, although he tried to his it, starring. She had changed more than a little bit, she had changed...a lot.

Even though she liked seeing him smile, the smile he gave her this time made her a bit embarrassed as she hooved the ground lightly. Her embarrassment grew when he had suddenly ran up and she found herself in a nuzzling embrace. Her cheeks reddened deeply, but she nickered softly and nuzzled him back. When he jumped back, she smiled lightly and shook her head. "There's no need to be sorry, I feel the same way."
At Ed's question and the look he was giving her, she was reminded of her current state, frowned and became self-conscious again. Once more, she started to hide her belly from him, even if it was a hard thing to hide. The spotted mare remained silent, looking away, almost in shame. She just didn't know how to tell him, but she just couldn't lie or not tell him either. With a sigh, she turned so her side was to him, slowly looking into his eyes. "Well... Edward... I'm..." She paused, having a quick second thought. She shook her head and looked to him again. "Edward... I'm pregnant."

A small smile appeared on his face, happy that she felt the same. If Ed had been alone in his feelings…Just thinking of it made his once gentle smile turn tense. He saw her try to hide her obviously growing belly, and for some reason he wanted to laugh. But as she answered his question, the smile disappeared completely from his face.
“Oh, I see. That’s great!” He exclaimed with a forced enthusiasm, planting a fake grin along with his phony happiness. It seemed that although she felt the “same”, it was just not quite the same as what he was feeling. She had already moved on, and he had thought after their last encounter, her feelings towards him would have grown stronger. Just like his had. “So, who is the luck guy?” He asked with his tone still completely fake and unbelievable. He was trying to be happy for her, but his jealousy for the unknown stallion was clouding his mind.

Seeing his smile caused her to feel worse about telling him, especially when he forced himself to be happy for her. Did he not want children or something? She had to wonder as her ears flattened sadly against her head. The whole time since their last encounter, watching her belly get bigger and bigger, she had pictured the two of them and their foals as a happy family, but that didn't seem to be going to happen.
It was when he asked who was the lucky guy that she looked up to him and blinked. Was he serious? She couldn't help but think. Giving him a questioning look, she shook her head and smiled. "Here, I'll show you." She said. With that, she turned and slowly walked away.
Over time, she lead him where a deep stream was. When she got to the edge, she looked into the water and smiled at her reflection. With that, she turned to him and smiled, motioning with her head to the river. "Go ahead... say hello."

Edward followed her; every step was another break to his heart. She was leading him to the stallion that was giving her children. Thinking upon their last encounter he had thought that perhaps they could have a future together. That in her belly it would be their children, and not some other stallions.
She had led him to a stream, for what reason he did not know. All he knew was that there wasn’t another horse in sight. Confusion clouded his features as he let his golden gaze roam over the surrounding area. Nope, nothing, not even larger hoof prints. She had stopped at the edge of the stream and he moved over to her left side, peering between his bangs and into the water. Maybe he was hiding in the water…which would be odd, but probable.
After staring into the water for a moment, he gave up looking. Saying hello to the water would feel far to peculiar…What did she mean? He was supposed to have met this stallion, and yet, he didn’t show up. What a coward. But perhaps she had meant himself. Hope blossomed in his chest with this new possibility. Could it really be true, could it be his children that resided in her belly? Ed turned his head to look at her, a smile beginning to show on his face. He had it figured out, or at least, he hoped he did.

Charlamagne's tail flicked lightly as she waited for Edward to join her by the stream. When he got there, she watched him, curious of what his reaction will be. She quirked a brow when he looked around, except the stream, but stifled a giggle at how lost he seemed about what she was trying to show him.
Soon, he figured out to actually look into the stream and she continued to watch his reactions. He still can't figure it out? She thought to herself with a smile, trying her best not to show it. She shifted on her hooves carefully, it getting a bit harder to stand for long periods of time. When he looked up to her, she tilted her head some, wondering if he fully got it. Slowly, she walked up to him. "So... did you say hello?" She asked softly, smiling warmly at him, thinking that he got the jist of what she was trying to tell him.

Edward’s smile grew on his face. “Me right, it’s me right!? Charl, this is amazing!” Before she could even confirm his question, although he already knew the answer, a larger grin took up his entire face as he lunged at her. His gold eyes sparkled in excitement, and upon reaching her he nuzzled his face against hers. “We are going to have children.” The warmth in his voice showed the happiness that radiated off of him.
It was the best moment that had ever happened to him in his life, and he could picture their children now, running and playing with so much energy. It was exciting but at the same time nervousness crept in. “What if I am not a good father?...”

Her own smile grew as he came to realize that he was the father. She blinked in slight surprise upon how fast he reached her and found his face close to hers. She didn't mind as she returned his nuzzles with a nicker and a nuzzle of her own. "I'm so happy to see that you're excited about this... I was so afraid of what you might think." She said softly.
The small mare was very relieved now and could start picturing their life with their new foals. But his change in emotion stirred a little curiosity. His question caused her to giggle lightly. "I'm sure you'll be a great father."

She was so happy and it made all his worries fall away from him. He was sure that those fears, remembering his own long forgotten father, would re-surface some day. But for now he would relax into the situation and enjoy it. “This is truly amazing! When do you think they will come? Do you think it is going to be a boy or a girl? Maybe both!” Grinning had become his new favorite facial expression, the smirk long forgotten. He had missed her, and now to have foals with her was something that he could only have pictured in his most wild of dreams. He thought that when they had separated that that was to be the end of it, and he accepted it even though it brought him such sadness. But now, everything had changed. It only made him realize how much of his heart he had given to her.
