God, I hate that fish. I had no problem at all catching it on the GC version, but for some reason, I can't do it on the DS! D:<
It was raining in my town yesterday, so I followed the rules of that mighty fish. It was raining, it was after 4 pm, and I was catching the sea bass-sized shadows. But I never got one! I think I got like 50 red snappers (no lie). And I searched for a good 3 or 4 hours straight. D:
Do you have any advice besides have patience? ANY type of help would be appreciated. It's the last fish that I need!

I had this problem, too.
I caught mine in a thunderstorm (I don't remember the time) but I believe it was in the summer. (I don't think the season has anything to do with it, though.)
I just went around catching every fish in the ocean that I could. I think it's shadow is smaller than the sea bass's. I think it is about the size of a red snapper's.
The online guides to catching one never helped me, and I don't think time matters. I would just wait for the rainy season to begin and try to catch it then.
The only fish I need is the cherry salmon D=

Thanks again for your help! I'll just catch every fish I see that isn't super small or have fins sticking out. D:

I don't know if you know this but I just thought I'd post it just in case. Location: Ocean during rain or snow. (Rare) Available: All Year Morning (4:00a.m. - 9:00a.m.), Evening (9:00a.m. - 8:00p.m.), and Night (8:00p.m. - 4:00a.m.)
Also, I thought the Colecanth was one of the huge shadows with the fin... In the book I have it is grouped with all of those fish. (Ocean Sunfish, Hammerhead Shark etc.)

Plus, if it's a nintendo guide gamebook, I know that it has a lot of mistakes printed in it. But I think it's grouped with those fish because that's how they're grouped in your guide in the game.

I wish I could help, but I don't have anything to add besides what's already been said.
Rare fish seem to flock to me, though... I've caught a coalecanth on a non-rainy day... TWICE!

Lucky! I can never catch those big fishes. All I get are those sea basses... D:

See? Bass!
I caught a large bass! Now I just need a large bass amp!
Is it just me, or are the terrible fish-puns one of the best parts of this game?

They're one of the reasons I'm crazily addicted to the game. :]

I just caught a coelacanth last night. It was around 9p.m. and it was raining so I suppose you just have to be patient because it seems like you're doing everything right.

I dunno if it is a fact, but I think it's easier to catch in a thunderstorm.
