Market Station

The Market Station was probably bustling with activity in its day. Now it's dark and desolate...the tunnel stretches on into eternal darkness, reminding you of scenes from blood-soaked horror movies.

arrow From Industrial Station.

"Good call on the light."

Joseph entered the station with Kael in toe and likely Ray not far behind. He was a good deal ahead of the other crew, though wouldn't be going too fast thanks to Kael.

Falling in dead in the middle of the group was Raymond, who would from time to time swing the light around to check in a circle around the area. Nvere could be too careful.

Lahren was the rear guard, still ready to pull the crossbows and fire at a moment's notice in case anything at all popped out.

"I'm honestly starting to worry about all this Ray." Joseph began to speak up, "From what I saw that robot was bearing some startling similarities to some of the stuff Cat's Cradle was working on around the time of the incident... Which I know from completly legitimate reasons and not because A~E had any investigation into the incident or it's fallout. Remember that line for the media for me."

He cleared his throat.

"Not to jump to conclusions, but this could be bigger than we thought if this is a callback to Carter City. Anyway, you were gonna tell me your theory before we got bombed to hell?"

They continued to walk, it was a subway tunnel after all.

For a guy with a limp, Kael was hauling a**.

That was, as much as a guy with a bad leg could in comparison to how fast his buddies would have liked to be going.

"Hey, 'nother station."

He nodded at it, as if it needed to be pointed out.

"Didn't you have a map of the place in that thing earlier or something? Can you check and see how much ground we've covered?"

Kael's left hand fidgeted, the fingers tapping with small sounds of a partially empty bottle of bourbon- well, it was exactly what he had in his hand, so it was no surprise. There was some pretty significant temptation to drain some more from it, but that wasn't going to do him any good at this point. Instead he'd just opted to carry the juice around with him.

If he had to be ready to put weight on his leg, trying to fight, if the pain came back too badly later, or if someone else needed it, it would be nice to have some left.

Surprisingly for all the chaos and the injury blind siding him, he'd kept his s**t together well. All he'd lost so far was a little bit of blood, track of the people he was working with, and one cap. Better than these things normally went after it started hitting the fan.

Edit: "Wait."

Kael put on the breaks.

"Cat's Cradle? That thing looked like the ******** things that Cat's Cradle let loose in Carter City?" That didn't sound of curiosity. That sounded of anger. If Joseph had light enough, Kael was looking pretty worked up too.

"Are you telling me they've got ******** more of those things?"

"Yeah...yeah...Carter city right." he said, pretending to go along with what Joseph was saying. Truth be told Raymond had no clue what had happened in Carter city, it was before his time...well at least the time where he paid any attention to the news or what went on in the world. However the name seemed to wing a bell in the dark recesses of his memory...but it wasn't that good bell, the only thing it seemed to bring to mind were rather bad thoughts.

"Right, my theory...well it's not as conspiracy themed or thought out, but I do have one." he started, not lowering the gun, but speaking as he covered the area.

"Well I don't think some form of technology was used to make all these people up and disappear...because that would in theory take a huge amount of energy, and nothing like that was detected." he started, narrowing out one possibility. "And I doubt anything alien like did it, because there was never any distress messages or warnings...it was too sudden." he continued, making sure he kept his footing. "So in theory if nobody ever sent any messages of distress, or never sent any calls for help...they never expected danger, it was like whatever happened they weren't afraid of. Now it would take something pretty powerful to make something as big as a population up an vanish...something...god-like. Now If I have my local knowledge correct the people of this city they worshiped some goddess queen, so my theory is that she made them all vanish, because she both had the power to do it and the favor of the locals to do it without suspicion on their part. Why she did it though...is beyond me." he said, taking in a deep breath.

Lah came trotting along up the line, to where the discussion was, and quirked a brow. Unlike Ray, he had no clue what had happened in Carter City nor the inclination not to ask, but he let the guy talk first.

After listening, he shrugged. "What did happen in Carter City anyway, that that thing seemed so familiar?"

"I'll be damned, someone who was hired just to shoot people actually doing some research before they came." Joseph gave a grin to Ray, "That actually makes some sense considering the whole situation. Hell, this could be something we could follow up on."

And Kael spoke.

"And the map. Double good idea." The glow of the Nav-wrist illuminated Joseph's face as he typed away while Kael continued to talk. It was fairly obvious that he was getting angry.

"Hey I said not to jump to conclusions. Though if Allen's correct tall, dark and swordy's appearance suggests we've got company in this city."

There was a series of sound-effects cued as another line was drawn across the map of the city. Joseph wouldn't look up from the wrist this whole time. He slowly looked more and more pleased.

"Y'know, we don't have to get out at the Market, this tunnel follows right along the line to some major temple thingy. Its only a slight change of plans if we head there and test your theory."

"...let's go for it. But if we run into s**t we bail and get some backup before we try again."

Kael closed his eyes, working not to grind his teeth, but he was at least ready to walk again if Joseph decided to keep moving.

"Company called Cat's Cradle lost control of a bunch of robots in Carter City, some kind of combat models. They caused havoc and killed people. Most of the city got evacuated but they lost anything they couldn't load on a truck in a couple hours. Then CC Inc. had the place nuked and got away without even paying reparations to the people who used to live there. I always assumed they'd gone under after trying to cover their asses for that fiasco though. I haven't heard a lick more about them... if they're still up and running..."

Yeah. Talking about his problems didn't seem to make Kael to cheery either.

"I would also be willing to bet that if anyone was alive and hiding, that temple would be quite the place to hide. If these people had any faith in their deity...that would be the place to look." Raymond added in, glad that his theory was accepted. It was little more than what he had been thinking about on the way here, but it did make some sense.

"I'm in for the temple."
PostPosted: Sat May 31, 2008 8:25 pm

"Huh..." Lah listened to the description and quirked a brow, but didn't have much more to say. Interesting that a company could just 'lose control' of their robots, but either way. Judging from the way the guy was acting and his tone while explaining it, it was striking some sort of bad chord, so best just to let it lie.

"I'll come along, no reason not to."

"They're probably acting under one of their subs..." And Joseph's phone rang to Allen.

"Good to hear y'all alive. Though I do need you to do me a favour now." He began to scout the area as they were just about on the station, "We're going to the temple on a hunch and I need you to continue on into the residential area and regroup. I'm gonna leave a small flashing metal device on one of the ticket counters. I want you to find a good building and then call me when you're there. I'll set you up with some supplies by proxy."

He gave everyone else a 'one second' gesture as he talked into his wrist. He would then reach into one of the pockets on his backpack and pull out a small device. Pressing a button on it it began to flash at a slow steady pace. Joseph briefly reared off to the size and placed the device on one of the counters.

"I know what you're thinking, but we can't keep going together like this if s**t's following us." He walked back on track, "And I'd rather have someone competent with the rest of them. That ok?"

And with that he would thumbs up the rest of them and continue down the subway.

Lah shrugged as Joseph left the flashing box behind, taking a look at it before continuing along. "Two groups can find answers better than one anyway, and that's what we're here for, right?"

That said, he'd walk with the group deeper into the train tunnels.

Raymond followed suit, hoping that this hunch lead to something that they could benefit from finding. Hopefully they wouldn't end up face to face with another giant robot or metal monstrosity. Hopefully answers were what awaited them at the temple.

"Let us just hope our one group here doesn't run into anything that wouldn't be best for our health." he said as he continued on towards the temple station.
