Quote:
The Black Tortoise (Chinese: 玄武; pinyin: Xuán Wǔ, literally "Black Warrior") is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It is sometimes called the Black Warrior of the North (北方玄武), and it represents the north and the winter season. Although its name in Chinese, Xuánwǔ, is often translated as Black Tortoise in English, it is usually depicted as both a tortoise and a snake, specifically with the snake coiling around the tortoise.

The Chinese constellations were not only used by Chinese cartographers, they were also used by Korean and Japanese cartographers as well. In Japanese, the Black Tortoise is called Genbu, and it has been depicted in numerous Japanese comic books and animations. In Korean it is called Hyeon-mu (현무).

North House of the Black Tortoise, Genbu

This House is located North of the Center House. It's attribute is 'Strength' and the element that was passed down by the North Symbol is 'Earth'. Strength is not just physical strength of a Firekin, it is the mental strength of the Ela, the emotional strength of the Mistweavers, the strength in numbers of the Pride Landers. Strength comes in many forms; physical, mental, emotional, in numbers, in arms, to get over one self, to get over obsticles. This is the sort of Pride that holds the power of retaliation from any opposing forces that try to harm the Pride.

This House is the Pride's 'military' power. We are the stronger members and the first to head into a conflict. In brief, the pride is set up just as an army would be. Generals, Lieutenant , Majors, Guards, Messengers, Captains, Sergeant, and Privates. There will be no indifferance among the members as they must all act as a unit in battle or else the mission will fail and the pride would at risk.

The House will welcome any members to their pride, homosexual, disabilities, or any other hindrance that one may find. Anyone is welcomed to join the pride.

Rules:
- Do not mess with the Mistresses of the Pride. To you they may seem unsignificant, but to the Lord, they are very close females that he wishes to protect, care for, and make happy as best he could. The reason behind the mistresses are for those owner's need-to-know. But they place a very important role nevertheless.
- Do not bring drama into the pride, if there are any issues please talk to the Lord or Lady.
- Keep things PG-13, if not take it to PMs or IMs.
- Keep profanity to a bare minimum, I can understand the occasional ones, but don't get excessive with swears after every other word.
- Do not try disrupt the ranks please, I can understand something but don't have the Guards suddenly revolt and take over the Advisors or something.

- Do not think this is like the actual army. You're characters are your own, they can act anyway they want to. I don't care if they are handicapped, agitated, or whatever, this is to be fun, do what you want. But it does give that army feel huh? mad D

Concepts and Brief Descriptions:
Taking on the Central
(North adapts the rules/laws of the Central)

In the lands, there are certain 'posts'. Members can generally live anywhere in their houses' territory, but these posts are specifically for guards to stay at on a rotational basis, are and are usually stationed near the borders, or where there is more prey. These guards move from each post for approximately a month or two, spending time defending the border or hunting. In each post, however, there is a commander, that is usually always stationed there, to supervise things, and make sure everything is going smoothly.

The central pride centers around the Emperor, Empress, their children, and their retainers, often a handful of bodyguards, nannies, a Bard, and a Speaker. Messengers go between Houses, and Ambassaders go between prides to carry information. Once every month, the pride gathers together at one of the Houses (or, rarely, at the Central House) for a feast and celebration.

For the moment, those entering the pride must prove their worth to the Lord or Lady whose house they wish to join, often by displaying certain attributes necessary to that house. The Lords and Ladies have full authority over the rankings within their House; the only ones who may contest these are the Emperor, Empress, and their heir(ess). Other species besides lions are accepted; however, they will rarely if ever attain a high ranking. Lions are the supreme creatures in Tianxia. Pelt color does not generally matter; but species and birthright have a great deal to do with one's status in this society.

Gods are particularly revered in this society and often serve as Guardians for a House, or even an important individual. They are allowed more freedoms and are entitled to a noble's status, although they must adhere to their Lord/Lady's law.

To children born within the pride, arranged marriages are the norm, although these may be changed as the years progress to a more suitable partner. It's a decision by the parents, however, not the children. In general, parents strive to choose a partner for their offspring that best exemplifies the traits of their house (strength, speed, intelligence, or creativity). Class is also important: a low-ranked member may not marry a high-ranked one. When they come of age, and if the two lions are in opposing houses, one must leave to join the others' house.

These marriages officially take effect once the partners reach adolescence. Males may have more than one mate, but they may not neglect the others besides their first mate (who will carry their heir(s)). Arranged marriages can occur between other prides, but the partner must join this pride. If a child should leave the pride, it's considered a disgrace and will not be welcomed back.

Mates are encouraged to have children in the pride early in life, although they do not have to have many.

In the future, those not of the pride are not tolerated within the lands without special permission from either the Emperor/Empress or one of the Lords/Ladies. Rogue hunting on the lands is not tolerated and will be punished immediately. For this reason, there are patrolling members of the pride whose duty it will be to make certain this doesn't happen, and to bring the offenders before the Emperor or Empress, or the local Lord/Lady for justice. (Please note that this will probably take some time for the neighboring creatures to realize that the area is 'off limits' to outsiders.)

[As you can tell, she writes better! =D] (C) Dustfeather aka Mila Farrell

The Calm - When there is no hustle and bustle within the House. This is where people have free roam (but still limited to Tianxia unless expressed permission from the Empress, Emperor, Lord, or Lady.

The War time plannings - In times of battle, War time plannings are held in the Royal Quarters.

Pride's Territory Layout [imagine]

The Pride is homed against a northern area of a mountain chain, slightly enclosed around the sides. The dens are placed against the mountain's faces. Located high above sea level. Any flat surface is covered in grass. From the ground to the upper parts of the mountain face, tiers like shelves spread across the walls, the next one being slightly shorter than the last. (like a staircase). Holes litter the walls, one for each member of the pride, if one were to move to their mate's then they relinquish their den. A den is large enough for more than a family. The tiers represent the lions'/families' nobility, the highest being the top most. There are paths that ascend from the ground up to each tier.

The Royal den is the only one located directly in the middle, furthest above the rest of the dens. The den is large enough for quite a few families to accommodate the families of the royal sort. The only entrance is the opening on the ground level that ascends to the royal's den. This path is just as large as the royal den, able to fit families who would like to visit the Lord and Lady without having to walk in a single enclosed space. The opening to this den gives the view sight of the entire pride.

Each den has a single opening that opens directly to the sky to allow sun/moon light into their home thus no den is above the one below it.

In case of emergencies, the pride takes those who do not fight up into the royal den and out the path against the back wall further up the mountain. From there, following the path to Central.

During battles, the procedure above is followed as those who fight would take to the open grasslands that lay before the den, the enclosing mountains acting as a gate to limit the number of opposing forces to take their lands. Uphill battle. The entrance to the Royal Quarters is the long tunnel, to the side, dug into the wall is a separate chamber where War time plannings are held, otherwise abandoned.

Beyond the Gates of the House is a downhill path of grass and rocks, a river cutting across where there are stones that allow crossing. This path leads down the savanna where members of the House are allowed to live. To the right of the House on the savanna is a heavily wooded area where the Majors live. Back to the river, if one follows it, it will lead to the waterfall that could be stood upon if one goes through the Royal Quarters to Tianxia's main household. Behind this grand waterfall is a hidden chamber where members could find refuge if all other escapes are cut off.

Food - One must travel down the mountain into the savanna to catch food. If they feel confident, stick to the mountains. Prey includes; goats, baboons, sheep, mountain antelope, mountain rats, and the usual savanna variety.

Water - Just outside the "gates" there is a river that comes from a waterfall. The river leads to a lake.

Cubs:

When born, they are dubbed their birth name. Brought before the Lord or Lady, are dubbed their pride name. Whichever caste they are born from, they stay with their parents. Cubs of the royal family (born from the Lord) are usually escorted by a High Guard and Guards. Cubs are free to do as they please while during calm times.

Traditions/Rules:
~ Arranged Marriages - High ranked members are subject to be mates at a young age.
~ Adolescent Rites - A task when one reaches adolescence to decide their place in the House.
~ Pronounce of Heir/Heiress - To allow all know who it is.
~ Holding a festival for the gathering of the Houses - Revelries for when all of the Houses gather to the North.
~ The audience to the newborn royal cubs. - Quite like the TLK but no dangling cubs over a steep drop.
~ Adolescent Pregnancy - Looked down upon, believed the cubs will be weaker.
~ Hybrids are tolerated - Believed to retain the best traits of both species.
~ Abandonment - Once evicted, chances are you may not be let back in. If you have left, chances are, you have a slightly higher chance than those who was evicted.
~ Lord's Blessing - When two lions decide to be together, they should come to the Lord or Lady to tell them to receive their blessing. Cubs before this will be looked down upon.
~ Upon Entering - Upon joining the House, past sins and bad things will be forgotten.

Rite of Passage:
When a cub reaches adolescences they are to prove their place in the pride is true, they must do a quest.
Quest:

____ - The male/female must do this alone without any physical help.
____ - Fukuaji will be tagging along (solo RP with one lion is no fun)
____ - They must venture out into Rogue Territory.
____ - They must catch and kill a prey one would see as difficult. ie. Elephant, Giraffe, Hippo, Kudu, Vulture, etc.
____ - 1. They must bring it back whole. (Your choice)
____ - 2. They must bring it back in pieces. (Your choice)
____ - Give a reply to this, "Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.”
____ - Bring the catch directly to the Lord.
____ - Give the reply.
____ - Given certain options of a Profession in the pride.

Position Descriptions

Position (maximum number allowed of this rank) - Rank description

Lord (1) - Only a single Lord can reside within the House. He is responsible for the Pride, taking the blame from the Lady if any. Anything within his House is purely his responsibility. He may expel anyone for any reason he believes to be wrong. He is the only member allowed to have more than one 'love'. Any cubs sired by him are instantly High Youths.

Lady (1) - Only a single Lady can reside within the House. She is responsible for anything she desires. By no means is she bound to tend the cubs and follow her mate. She has her own free will, to travel to the other Houses (with an escort if required). Any cubs born from her and the Lord are the only Princes and Princesses of the House. Cubs directly from her and her mate are considered "Royal" even their grandchildren though rank is not given. She is on equal levels with the Lord and takes over if he is indisposed.

Heir/Heiress (1) - Only a single Heir/Heiress can reside in the House. He/She must be born from the Lord and Lady and pronounced Heir/Heiress. They are the successor if the Lord were to die or step down. Their arranged marriage is of utmost importance as it would result their mates being the next Lady/Lord. The Heir/Heiress has certain obligations to fulfill as in having audiences to the other Houses to have them familiar with the next in line. Most importantly, show his abilities as a leader within his/her own House. Any cubs he/she has will not obtain Heir/Heiress rank until he/she becomes Lord/Lady. He/She is to go through the arranged marriages and the adolescent rites, but will retain this rank and second rank. Cubs will be High Youths until exhalation.

Duke (x) - Any cubs born from the Lord and Lady. Expected to behave and show all other members of the House what their House exemplifies. They are to go through arranged marriages and the adolescent rites, retaining this rank and the second rank. Cubs will be Youths.

Duchess (x) -Any cubs born from the Lord and Lady. Expected to behave and show all other members of the House what their House exemplifies. They are to go through arranged marriages and the adolescent rites, retaining this rank and the second rank. Cubs will be High Youths.

Royal (x) - Any cubs born from the Lord and Lady. Being of Upper Class, they will go through arranged marriages and the adolescent rites. Cubs. These are direct blood from Lord and Lady, those who stem below are still royal blooded, but rank is not given.

Mistress (3) - These females are to the Lord's company. Under special conditions, he requires at least one to accompany him if his Lady is not. These females are welcomed to live in the Royal Quarters with their cubs. These females may have their own mates within the House, but the Lord should be their main focus as he will try to win them back if so. Cubs from these females are considered High Youths if sired by the Lord. If in time of the Calm, they can do as they please but it is encouraged to tend to their own cubs like a mother and converse with the Lady and Lord when possible. The Lady has rule over these females if Lord is not present.

High Youth (x) - Any cubs born from the Lord and Mistresses, Princes and their mates, Princesses and their mates, and the Heir/Heiress and their mates. Being of Upper Class, they may go through arranged marriages with their mother's consent and the adolescent rites. Cubs (if not of royal blood) are Youths.

High Guardian (2) - Gods and Goddesses who aid the House in times of need. Be it prayers, idol, a valued guest, these members are to be respected even by the Lord and Lady. The Gods can be social as in casual or be as high and mighty as they want. Cubs born from them are welcomed and given the rank of High Youth. And by choice, may take on arranged marriages and the adolescent rites.

----------------------

It? (1) - Fukuaji is one of the Lord's Peons. He is directly commanded by the Lord himself to do things around the Pride. Reconstruct [Specialist], dig light holes into the mountain side [Specialist], watch the cubs [Royal Guard], speak to the Lord about issues [Adviser], and a plaything for any cub ["Playground"]. He reports directly to the Lord. Often times, one may find the Lord literally playing with this meerkat and he welcomes any who wishes to do the same. ABUSE HIM!

Royal Guard (5) - These five or so lions are to protect the Lord, Lady, Mistresses, and top ranked members. They are trusted by the Lord to hold a position. They also command the Guards as well. In times of Calm, they may be escorting the top rank cubs around as protection. A Lord/Lady will have one accompany them when traveling to other Houses as a precaution.

Adviser (2) - These lions are often trusted and very wise. Even possible border line to join the House of Intelligence, the Lord prefers them to be smart and able to make decisions that he himself will not regret. These Advisers also part-take in the War time plannings.

Messenger (4) - These messengers can range from lions to birds, they are expected to deliver messages from the Lords and Ladies of the many Houses as soon as possible where commands can be sporadic, they can settle down if they desired. They are not allowed to read the message, but can be told what it is. These members are very welcomed in the War time plannings if they hold important information from other Houses.

Major (2) - They listen to only the Lord and Lady and the High Guardians. They know need-to-know information that is expected to keep amongst themselves. They part-take in War time plannings. They command the Hunters. (Higher than Captains)

Captain (2) - They listen to only the Lord and Lady and the High Guardians. They know need-to-know information that is expected to keep amongst themselves. They part-take in War time plannings. They command the Hunters. (Lower than Majors)

----------------------

Guard (x) - Only listen to the Lord, Lady, and the Royal Guards. They patrol the House and the path between themselves and Central. Any lions found wandering is expected to be investigated and guided back to the House if necessary.

Hunter (x) - Only listen to Lord, Lady, and the Majors and Captains. These members hunt in the mountains and the savanna, the desert if they are bold. Any lions found wandering is expected to be investigated if suspicious and guided back to the House if necessary.

Nanny (x) - These members listen to no one but their own mother/fatherly instincts. They must tend to the cubs when their family is out on their own duties. These members have cubs as their first priority as cubs are the future of the House. When the situation is dire, they are expected to fight to protect them.

"Playground" (x) - These members are quite like the Nannies except these members must be very very playful! Not afraid to get down and dirty and roll with the cubs, playing their games and allow them to have fun. Most carefree of the ranks.

Specialist (x) - These members are little groups within the House. These members could be crafters, medics, storytellers, etc. But they fall under Specialists.

Youth (x) - Cubs born from anyone not from the top ranks. These cubs do not follow the arranged marriage and they are required to do the adolescent rites. They obtain their ranks and lose this one.

Exiles (x) - Any members who leave the Pride are expelled are often times not welcomed back. Disgracing their family and the House, they would have been killed, but that's against the rules :3

Recruiting:

Currently, the house is opened to anyone who wishes to join. Those females who offered for the Lady position were offered positions in the house based on how well they were with Trigger, how he reacted to them, and their traits.

To be recruited, one is required to RP with the Lady or Lord. Here, you may choose where you would like to be placed. (just tell us out of character so we know). Sometimes, there will be times where the position cannot be placed in anymore. The Higher ranks are quite hard to obtain as they are important members of the house.

The Pride is looking for any SoA, lion, cheetah, leopard, etc. Male or female. If you feel that your SoA will fit in, just give it a shot and swing a PM over.

---------

Arranged Marriages:

The North House follows quite close to the Tianxia's Central House's rules. The Royal Family follow the Arranged Marriage rules and will be choosing their litter's mates soon enough. These cubs are bound by law to stay together, at least in the Lord's eyes. The cubs would have no real choice in the matter of who they are to be wedded to. However, those of higher rank have a good chance, those who show great example of what the House represents does also. Below are each of the cub's personalities. This cub should be part of the Chinese Pride or is going to be.

Xiomar/Bao [Prince]
Sarcastic, lazy and quick to anger- the only thing that keeps Bao off of his butt, which he’d rather sit on all day than do anything else, is his gigantic ego and pride. He is a loyal friend, simply because he does not like to disappoint and can not stand the thought of having obligations. They are inevitable in life, however, and Bao is always quick to follow through with them, so that they’re over and done with and no longer matter.. He’s snobby and vain, and grudgingly admits that he needs to exercise regularly in order to keep up his appearance. Calculative and clever on the outside and not afraid to show it, Bao likes to give off airs of detachment. Deep, deep down, however, he’s about as tough as a teddy bear and loves to cuddle. (( Green_Eyes ))

Erevu/Ru'Min [Prince] - (Taken by Binti)
Never have you seen a more polite and gentlemenly boy. It seems he passed his mother's lessons of manners with flying colors and did so with a dazzling smile. He's always one to say exactly what someone wants to hear and sometimes uses it to his advantage. He keeps up with his siblings as far as physical strength, but prefers to use his charms and witt as opposed to his muscles. As a young cub his schemes are quite innocent; escaping punishment or getting a snack. But as he grows older he's likely to excell in the often times political atmosphere of the pride. (( Ary Keeyara ))

Gumu'Wosia/Gāng Qiáng [Princess] - (Taken by Ashiking'ala )
Of the five children, Gang is what you might describe as the odd one out. In constant conflict with the instinctive urge to please her parents and the impulsive desire to be herself, she often lands herself in trouble with her mother in an attempt to find the balance between. She's a bit of a trouble maker, though she would never intentionally endanger her siblings, parents, or anyone else, and often doesn't even realize she's crossing the line until there isn't any turning back. From the silly (pulling wild faces behind her mother's back in public, to get laughs) to the adventurous (letting her curiosity pull her absently past the brink of her parents rules), there isn't much that Gang hasn't or won't get into. (( Tahja Estes ))

Taadhima/Wing [Princess]
Both of her names meaning Glory, Wing is the quintessential good daughter - at first glance. She adores her parents and the beliefs/traditions of her House, but that's not to say she doesn't rebel against some ideas... secretly. She'd never let her parents know about such things, only her closest allies. Wing is also horribly proud, but it will begin as pride for her position in life, to true pride for her House and what it stands for. She is also very polite and on her best behavior in front of adults, but it's safe to say that things slip when only cubs are present! (( tuesdayscat ))

Hashmal/Xun Lin [Prince] - (Taken by Baridi'Moyo)
Name meaning Order, he tries his best to keep himself where disputes are likely to break out. He tries to do what is right to keep things organized and simple for everyone, however, he often does so that everything falls to his own liking. Hash (Hass) is very kind and playful, but when it comes to his family and siblings, he would protect them and defend them against anyone, including his own parents. He would gladly take blame. (( PhiferWolf ))

Alright, I have not entirely updated the who is coming post because of the long time it took for things to happen. I do apologize to the long wait but now the ball is rolling once again. Soon, the cubs will be born (ICly). As of now, I am playing Sheng (Trigger, the Lord) as if they have been born and he is seeking out the members.

I have already recruited Bluefire Dragonz's Ushu as our Royal Guard AND Supervisor.

Now, if you are totally set on joining the Zhi Ming (North House) "pride", start an RP and please throw it in my direction (or Ary, but ask first) [Sheng: If you desperately want me to take care of teh cubs... fine >>]

Once you have been recruited, aka the RP has been finished, you may then play your character in the House (please read the house's layout), and get yourself the snazzy new cert!
