the idea that there would be some kind of federal enforcement on prom dates is absolutely ridiculous O_o.
prom as a whole is a stupid concept, and most people just end up going for the afterparties anyway.

Where I come from. We never had Prom dances. sad In fact it's only caught on in the last few years; so I missed the stress of going to the dance stressed Still I must be missing something confused Its a dance? confused To show off your posh frocks smile And get to be allowed to mix with others in a formal setting smile You can hang with your friends at any time smile But you get few moments to try something new biggrin Your friends should last longer than one evening's dance!

I actually had more fun the year that all my friends and I went single. We danced with each other and were silly. We didn't have to focus on only one person (our dates) and could have more fun with the whole group of us. The next year, my friends did go with a date and they didn't have as much fun because they felt like they had to entertain that person instead of being able to hang out with their friends.
I think the whole idea of having to go with a date is ridiculous. If you go single, it doesn't mean you're a pathetic loser who can't get a date. It means that you have slightly different priorities. Why do you care what other people think about you anyway, as long as your friends know the truth and you're having fun?

Well, personally, I don't enjoy attending dances and proms, though I do like it if I'm there without my bf, just my friends biggrin I find it much more relaxing than having to be around a guy that you might end up being dumped by that same night mrgreen

I'm in Aus, and here we call our prom, the formal. Basically I don't think it should be necessary to have a date, it's a social gathering, it shouldn't be a rule to have a date, should be a personal choice.

I was forced to go to prom stag because my fiance (boyfriend at the time) was a year over the allowed age to invite. I have to say, I had fun anyway. The venue sucked, but it gave me a chance to enjoy my friends.
Now, my question is, are you saying that states are trying to make it a law to have to have a date for prom?
