Venda was sniffing around the area walking oddly, her paws dragged at the ground and her tail swayed slowly to and fro as she tried to orient herself. Her ears pricked and she frowned at the scent of pack borders. Venda had wanted to sneak close to the old ocean dwelling pack, to sniff around and see if that evil lynx and wolf still lived. Despite her quiet life as a lone blind wolf, she carried a deep need for vengeance tucked in her heart.

The blindfolded female stopped to sit at the border of the new pack territory, the marks were strong, strong enough to warn her away, but to get to the evil pack who had harmed her, she had to pass through here. Her nose went haywire and her head swiveled around, her old habit of trying to 'look' around had never died. She could have sworn there was another wolf nearby, and that made her very nervous. A lone blind wolf was easy pickings for anything or anyone.

Stryder does not know much of his pack as settlers killed his father and the rest of his pack. Captured by settlers as a young pup, Stryder was forced to obey their cruel intentions. Out of their sick enjoyment, Stryder was muzzled and forced into “dog” fights. He had to fight for his life against other wolves and dogs as settlers bet on the animals. Late into his teen years, Stryder was able to overpower one of the settlers and escape from the settlement and the cage he was in. He came upon a village of Telk natives where he was received well. The villagers believed him to be the incarnate of an old warrior whom they saw as a deity. He received a pendant and leather straps from the villagers and given food. They were unable to take his muzzle off but saw that he was able to eat small chunks of food. Though muzzled, Stryder had powerful claws and muscles as well as able to growl. Stryder had never been able to speak with the other wolves and of course, these villagers could not communicate with him.

Stryder was wary as these natives, these humans, treated him well and reverently. He came and went from the village, eating the squirrels he killed with his mighty claws. A few days passed then before the village was attacked by the settlers who had finally followed Stryder to the village. A villager led Stryder away, using the pendant as a way to grab hold of Stryder and put on Stryder a hooded cloak. The villager ran back to the village and was killed. Out of revenge for the killing of the kind-hearted villagers and for the years that the settlers had treated him so cruelly, Stryder took down the dogs, killing many of them. He scared the horses the settlers rode. The horses had been raised fearing the wolves that fought and were always scared out of their minds during the fights. Stryder growled near them swiping many with his claws getting the horses to run away and/or buck their riders off. After doing this, he ran away and knew no more of what happened to the settlers.

As an adult, Stryder is a lone wolf. He feeds by taking down several squirrels and eating them. He can take on larger animals but he is only able to eat small chunks at a time, not allowed to actually eat much meat because of his muzzle. Stryder is traveling the land, searching for a pack to be a part of. A pack that would take him in.

Stryder made sure to never near the settler's settlement after her had left and caused havoc after they killed the natives who revered him. He padded through the brush of the lands, sniffing out the markings of a territory's borders. He didn't want to be near if the territory's pack came too close.

Stryder slowed down when he got closer to a newer pack's territory and caught wind of another scent, one really faint. He searched with his eyes and saw a black wolf with green markings and a green band around its eyes. He sniffed once more narrowing his eyes.

Stryder saw the lone wolf turn its head, swiveling around as if the wolf could see through the band. He was discovered. He growled a bit, letting the lone wolf know another was by the only way he could with the muzzle on him.

Venda heard the growl and stopped frozen, she slowly turned in the direction it had come from and slipped forward a bit uncertainly. Her body slowly moved lower to the ground, ready to spring away and run. For a blind wolf Venda had learned a few tricks that kept her alive. Smell, Hearing, and Taste had become very important to her survival.

"I mean you no offense..." She inhaled the scent of the other and tilted her head a bit confused, he was a wolf yet around him was the faint scent of two legger. No smell of a pack, could it be this wolf was alone like her? Hsd the two legged one helped him to?

"I just wanted to pass here, but these pack boundaries are very strongly marked, this pack was not here last I was in the area..." Last time she had been able to see. She swallowed back the painful memory, always she mourned the loss of her precious sight. She did not think it was easier to have had and lost then to have never had at all, for now she knew all that she was missing.

Stryder stopped on his haunches when the lone wolf spoke. A female from her tone and looks then. He listened and nodded but then he whined as he remembered she could not see through the fold. He whined more at the loss at not being able to speak to the blind wolf and despaired over being able to communicate with her.

Going against his own instincts, Stryder made sure to put more pressure on his paws as he moved forward, making sure to make more than enough sound to let the blind lone know that he was approaching.

Stryder sniffed once more and commented in his thoughts how this lone she wolf smelled like the two leggers who revered and helped him. The ones who gave him the things he wore.

Once more, Stryder mourned the fact that he couldn't work his muzzle enough to get out more than a growl and mumbles. The muzzle had been just new when he was able to escape the cruel settlers. He tried to answer the lone wolf's questions but couldn't. He whined softly, trying to convey that he could not speak to the ready to run lone wolf.

Venda was slightly confused by the whines and snuffles, she heard the wolf approaching and inhaled again deeply. A male, alone for certain, still she caught the scent of two leggers. Slowly Venda moved forward her paws sweeping ahead of her until she touched him. She stopped and moved her muzzle forward touching his lightly. "I'm sorry...please don't be upset..." She added softly.

Venda felt helpless and foolish, needing to touch and smell everything out that she had once been able to see so easily. She gave a curious tilt of her head as she felt the mesh and material around his muzzle. Slowly she traced the strange contraption and sat back. "You cannot speak..." If she could have looked horrified her eyes would have, but she no longer had windows into her soul. Instead she frowned slightly and lowered her head.

"Can you eat and drink?" She asked concern coloring her voice, even blind she was able to catch fat rabbits and squirrels, she was above scaveging still.

Stryder held still as he let the lone wolf touch him. He knew that there would be no other way for her to know that he was muzzled and unable to speak like he would like. He narrowed his eyes when she asked whether or not he could eat and drink. Of course he could eat and drink! He could take down large predators if he was in need.

Stryder knew he didn't want to upset the lone wolf though so he growled softly letter her know he was near and placed his paw near her head. He allowed her time to see if she would notice the straps around his paws before he tried to motion that yes he could eat. He then waited for a bit before trying to make himself feel large, and pretend to be a large predator and growled like one.

Venda slowly lost her skittishness and smiled softly understanding as he moved his paws and growled. She gave a soft nod "I lie in wait and take my prey down that way...it's hard not to see, but it must be harder not to be able to use your teeth..." She spoke to him with open ended phrases trying to allow him to convey what he could.

She hadn't met many other wolves, she did not know them by sight only be smell. She tilted her head and tried to remember the texture wrapping her paws before nodding softly. "You were with the two legged ones as well...They saved me...Did they put that on your muzzle?" Her voice sounded sad, she had known that the two leggers just like wolves came in good and bad.

Stryder tilted his head when she asked about taking prey down. He slowly surveyed the area and saw a broken tree bough. He pushed it around with his paws, his muzzle, and butt it a little with his head. He moved it closer to her and tried to get her to be aware of it. After that, he moved one of his paws near her to know that it was there. Quickly, he brought his paw down onto the bough. Once, twice, and on the third time the bough craked broke into pieces.

Stryder hoped that she had gotten the clue. He used his muscles and the claws on his paws to his advantage without his jaws.

Stryder thought back to earlier of the two leggers. The nice darker ones and the pale cruel ones who put the mesh on him! He moved his muzzle closer to her and nodded his agreement. Yes! Two leggers had put the stuff on him. He thought on a way to convey that there were nice ones who gave him things and the cruels ones who had taken him captive.

Stryder realized what he should try. He pounded the earth hard. Once and he growled, angrily. He moved his muzzle forward, the mesh around it. Then he pounded the earth with his paw again! This time he whoofed softly, joyously. He moved his body closer, letting her feel the material around his body, the stuff around his paws, and the stone hanging around his neck. After that he turned to look at her and then whined softly, sadly.

Venda was starting to really understand this males form of communication, while she wished she could see, what she heard and felt was enough for her to understand. She nodded as he cracked the bough. "Your very strong." She nodded softly and moved her paw over the splintered pieces.

As she heard the growl she was alert and felt his entraped muzzle. She gave a soft nod and smiled as she felt the silky material against his sides and the cool pendant that hung round his neck. "Two leggers gave me my name, and...they helped me...when I...when I couldn't see. They covered me too...it feels much better this way." She smiled softly her tail wagging a moment before she frowned.

"I know they killed though...I could hear growls, screams, and loud bangs...there is good and bad in all things I suppose." She tilted her head at the whine and moved closer to him. "You miss them?" She let her head drop a bit. "I missed the forest too much to stay in the two leggers dwellings."

Stryder wagged his tail when the female understood him. Very good! It was interesting the many similarities he had with this female, even though they had never spoken to each other before this meeting and could not communicate in normal ways.

Stryder grunted at the question of missing the two leggers. Sure he was mad and angry when they had died, but he could not find himself living in their strange dens and missed what little he had remembered of the wild. So he growled just a little softly at the notion of missing the two leggers and shook his head just slightly, hoping the female felt him doing so.

Stryder wondered why she could not see. Moving his head a little closer to hers, he butt his head just slightly against hers and tried to use his muzzle just a bit to touch the cover around her eyes. He keened softly, trying to convey his question, what happened? What took sight away from the femme?

Venda nodded at the shake of his head, as long as she sat close enough she could feel his movements and hear the growls soft or loud, whines, and grunts. She was surprised they were able to communicate and gave a slight smile. It felt good for her to not feel so odd having an essential missing, she imagined it must have felt good for him too being understood.

As she felt the brush against the blindfold she murmured softly "I thought you might wonder..." She frowned and 'looked' down her ears falling back. "To the north of here is a pack, they dwell by the sea, their dens are in the high rocky cliffs. I was unfortunate enough to be passing by one day, I could smell a wolf and a lynx. The lynx was hurting the wolf...and when I went to help...the wolf or the lynx...I'm not sure which. It all happened so fast, the next thing I knew I could only smell blood, and then I fell, there was water and salt and the sand..and then I ran and ran...it hurt so much." She inhaled raggedly. "When I woke up...I realized I was lucky to be alive, the two leggers had kept me alive...given me a name...covered me."

Stryder whipped his tail once or twice when she showed she understood his motions. He frowned though, when she started to tell her tale. To think that she wanted to help and then was wounded in this way. He keened softly at her loss.

Stryder's ears fell back and then they went back up when he realized how close the two were to the wolf and/or lynx that had given her this irrevocable injury. He grunted again, questioningly. Was she here for vengeance? Why was she here so close to territory of those who hurt her? Why so close to a new pack's territory?

Venda wished she could see the wolfs expression, she heard the soft sounds he made and nodded softly. "I've...gotten used to it, been getting used to it." She murmured. Venda didn't want anyone's pity, she wanted to be independent again, though she knew in her heart a blind, female, all alone would not be treated kindly by wild mother nature. She had been lucky so far, she needed a pack, but what pack could ever need or want her?

She heard the grunt and tipped her muzzle towards the scent of the new packs territory. "Them? Their new..I know nothing of them. I wanted to see if the pack that lives near the ocean is still...evil." She growled out softly, she wanted revenge, but how was she going to avenge herself? It was laughable when she thought about it.

Venda's ears swiveled as she lifted her head her nose twitching. She could have sworn she had caught a scent. Bear? They didn't belong around here...so why would one be in this area?

The bear was indeed in the area, very close to the wolves and coming ever closer, driven down from the mountains past the plains in search of food, the animal was hungry and irritable. It moved on deadly paws tipped with long vicious claws, and it managed to move with some grace despite it's 500 pounds of body weight.

Strider's ears tipped, hearing the rustling of the leaves. There was a bear nearby! Strider raised his head high, getting the bear's scent. He let out a soft, surprised grunt as the bear came crashing through.

The bear came upon the two wolves with its weight behind it, taking out tree limbs and the like with its massive claws on its monstrous paws.

Stryder jumped to the side and shook himself. The female! Was she unharmed? He swung his head around to look for her when his leather muzzle tip caught itself on a rock nearby and loosened just a little.

Venda went flying a few feet to one side as the bear crashed into her. Luckily for her it hadn't had it's mouth open or been clawing infront of itself. She sprung to her feet and tried to re-orient herself. As she heard the huge beast growl she flung herself away and listened for another growl. Once she had determined where the sound came from she flung herself behind it hoping to stay away from the creatures more dangerous attributes. Her sides hurt fiercely and she danced on uncertain paws trying to keep from falling or being mauled to death.

"Are you okay?" She asked frantic about what might have happened to her mute companion. She heard the huge beast turn at the sound she had made and the ground beneath her paws seemed to shake as it made a beeline for her.
