Ever listen to band once or twice and think, there is nothing special about them at all, or they aren't very good, then only to go back later, give them another listen only to find that they are incredible?
My pick: Turisas. I used to HATE them, but now, talk some smack about Turisas and you, sir, will have the wrath of Hollow upon you.
What about you guys, any similar stories?

The exact same thing happened to me with Emperor. Though I think it was because my brother used to play some really crappy songs by them, so that was all I knew before I myself got some of their music.
And the exact opposite happened with Children of Bodom, I used to think they were super awesome and the best band in the universe, but now I can barely stand them. Their older stuff is pretty decent, but their newer stuff is just 'yow yow yow ********, die ******** a ******** death' etc. Some of their songs have really catchy melodies though and they would be good songs too, if you could just ignore the 'singing'.

Reagers' era Vitus, Trouble, Blood Farmers, Angel Witch, Mercyful Fate/king Diamond. Though I didn't exactly dislike them at first, just a fairly big difference in how much I like them now versus when I first heard them.

It took me FOREVER to get into Slayer just because of all the "SLAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUURGH!" fagots. Same as Cannibal Corpse, I can finally listen, laugh, and turn it off when I need to go grab some aspirin. I don't like them, but I can be entertained more than before.

I first thought it was some kind of very bad cover band from Saint Vitus.
But after my second listen i realised that it was the same band, but more power in every song.
And the one album of them called "Rehearsel"(really like the name, it discribers everything) has all of the good Saint Vitus songs that are realesed afterwards.
So Saint Vites was just re-releasing old Tyrant songs for about 15 years. razz

Well the opposite happened to me...in fact that happens to me a lot sweatdrop
Recently I got into Lamb of God (*gasp* I know I know), then I found out that umm...they aren't as good as people make them out to be. So now I just listen to them when I am bored...
It did take me awhile to get into some of the more obscure Heavy Metal genres i.e. Drone, and Funeral Doom. I still have to be in the mood to listen to them.

I used to hate doom metal, but now I'm in love with My Dying Bride, Novembers Doom, Maudlin Of The Well, The Lust I Seek, Virgin Black, Sabachthani, In The Woods..., Unholy, old Bethlehem, Deinonychus, and Asunder.
