Mwako'bi'Giza
Light in Darkness
A Pride Interest Thread

Demons lurk in the dark. The founders of the Mwako'bi'Giza pride knew this better than anyone else. Except maybe the reason their pride was founded. The Aikanaro'hini. The Mwako'bi'Giza were founded to combat the demon-lions...and one day eradicate them.

Their main founder was a demon-lion herself. Moto'nyota was the sister to one of the first Aikanaro'hini, and for a long time, denied her demon blood.

Until she found out her sister had found others like her. Demons were real...and they were a threat. She began to travel the lands, searching for those who were strong and willing to fight against the demon-lions. She was thought crazy by many, but others listened...

And others joined her.

And now...they fight.

CURRENTLY IN NEED OF CLAW, PAW, AND MAW!
Jua, Mwezi, Maji, Moto and Ardhi are taken.
Baridi is being quested for.
Cert image obtained! Thank you Skieborne!

Gods/Religion/Beliefs

The Mwako'bi'Giza don't really have much of a 'religion'. They acknowledge that the Gods exist, and are powerful...but they pay them as much heed as an outsider lion. To the Mwako'bi'Giza, the gods have not done enough to stop the spread of demons, and therefore need no worship from them. The only God they heed is Karma...They are always seeking to right any past life wrongs they made.
The Mwako'bi'Giza are firm believers in re-incarnation, and are careful to spot cubs they think were re-incarnated from past pride members or demon-lions they've defeated. If a past pride member, then they are sure to cultivate the best of that past. If a demon-lion, they do their best to raise the cub with everything that is anathema to the demon god. These often become the most devout Shetani'msasi or Mmoja mpaka Halisisha.

Classes/Ranks

Higher Ranks:

Sun/Moon
"Jua"/"Mwezi"
The leaders. They are always a pair, though not always mated. Often times, they are brother and sister. While the Jua is the political leader and commander-in-chief, the Mwezi is the spiritual and domestic leader. The Jua and Mwezi share 'power' over the higher ranks. The Jua is answered to by the Shetani'msasi, the Shuuja, and the Asikari. The Mwezi leads the Mmoja mpaka Halisisha, the Msasi, Mfuma, and the Mlisha.

Little Sun/Little Moon
"Chache'jua"/"Chache'mwezi"
The 'heirs' to the positions of Jua and Mwezi. They can be of any age...but they MUST be chosen by the current Jua and Mwezi. This is not always a hereditary position.

Star
"Nyota"
When the Jua and Mwezi are not mates, the mates of the Jua and Mwezi are known as the Nyota. They can be of any rank, and this is often added to the front of their rank. They are the confidants of the Jua and Mwezi, and hold some sway over their decisions.

Claw/Maw/Paw
"Udole"/"Mdomo"/"Kono"
Always related, be they siblings or cousins, the Udole, Mdomo, and Kono are three very important components of the Mwako'bi'Giza. The Udole is the 'five-star-general' of the Shujaa and Shetani'msasiand the Baridi answers to him/her. The Mdomo is the head of the Msasi and Mlisha, and the Ardhi answers to him/her. And the Kono leads the Mmoja mpaka Halisisha and Asikari, and the Moto and Maji answer to him/her. They often work in tandem, and always have the good of the pride on their mind. If they see the Jua and Mwezi getting too out-of-sorts, stressed, or power-hungry, they work to correct it. Even if it means removing them from power. When this happens, they are in charge of the pride until the heirs can take over...

Wind
"Baridi"
The 'head of information'. To all but the Udole, the Jua, and the Mwezi, the Baridi is the 'diplomat' to other prides and packs and coalitions. But in truth, the Baridi leads the 'non-existant' faction of spies. His/her position keeps them moving a lot, so they often relay messages via a smaller animal companion, usually Avian, called the Baridi'dogo.

Earth
"Ardhi"
While the Mdomo is the head honcho of the Msasi and Mlisha, the Ardhi is the one who makes sense of it all. The Ardhi makes sure the day-to-day things go smoothly, and that any disagreements between any members of the Msasi, Asikari, and Mlisha are quickly and efficently smoothed over and fixed.

Fire/Water
"Moto"/"Maji"
Always siblings. Always. The Moto lead the Shetani'msasi, while the Maji lead the Mmoja mpaka Halisisha. They ensure the two groups work well together, and are always shining examples of each. They are also responsible for assigning those Tarajali who wish to join their ranks to an experienced member of their group, and teaching the general lessons of their 'trade' to their Tarajali.

General Ranks

Hunter
"Msasi"
The providers. The Msasi are those who go out to hunt for food in the lands they call home.

Demon Hunter
"Shetani'msasi"
These are the most militant of the the Mwako'bi'Giza. They are the ones who go out and hunt the demon-lions, seeking to destroy those who wish normal creatures harm. The Shetani'msasi are always paired with a Mmoja mpaka Halisisha, to balance them. There are two contingencies: one set of Shetani'msasi who travel around, hunting, and one set who stay to protect the pride and train Tarajali. They switch at the Solstices.

Purifier
"Mmoja mpaka Halisisha"
The Mmoka mpaka Halisisha are most often calm and almost pacifistic in this very NOT pacifistic pride. They seek to 'purify' the demon-lions they can, trying to bring them to the side of mortals, rather than the demon god. But when things fail, they can easily fight for themselves. They are always paired with a Shetani'msasi, to balance things out. There are two contingencies: one set of Mmoja mpaka Halisisha who travel around, hunting, and one set who stay to protect the pride and train Tarajali. They switch at the Solstices.

Warrior
"Shujaa"
The 'shock-troops' of the Mwako'bi'Giza. Because there aren't really a lot of Shetani'msasi and Mmoja mpaka Halisisha, they are the main bulk of the 'Hunting Parties'. They constantly train, and some even become Shetani'msasi.

Guard
"Asikari"
Though there are the Shuuja, Shetani'msasi, and Mmoja mpaka Halisisha...they have their own duties. The Asikari are protection against more 'mundane' threats, such as violent rogues and hyena packs that would rather see them dead.

Caretaker
"Mlisha"
The Mlisha are often considered the 'Heart' of the pride. They are the ones who care for the cubs and juveniles, raising them and teaching them. All cubs of the pride are raised together, since fighting the Aikanaro'hini is a very taxing job for the adults. Bloodlines are kept track of to avoid inbreeding, and parents do try to nuture and encourage their cubs in their own ways, even if they aren't Mlisha. Siblings are often raised under the same Mlisha.

Weaver
"Mfuma"
The Mfuma are the healers. They answer only to the Mwezi, and no other...though they have their own system of apprentices and elders among themselves. They treat all pride members equally, giving the smallest cub the same care as the Jua. They also have the hardest job of all...When another lion is dying, it is a Mfuma who sits beside them to comfort them until they slip into death. Mfuma are not only skilled with plants, herbs, and salves, they are also healers of the mind, helping shell-shocked members regain themselves and their hope.

Apprentice
"Tarajali"
When they reach adolescence, 'children' are now considered old enough to choose a profession. They approach the Udole, Mdomo, and Kono first, to ask permission to join their ranks, then they are sent to the proper 'authority' to be assigned to an experienced member of the class they wish to be. During their adolesence, they are trained in their chosen class.

Little Brother
"Chache'ahi"
Generic title for a male cub.

Little Sister
"Chache'ndugu"
Generic title for a female cub.

'Non-existant' Rank

Spy
"Dunzi"
Supposedly, the Dunzi do not exist. They can be of any other rank, and are known by only the Baridi, the Jua, and the Mwezi. Often, they technically have no other rank in the pride, because they are sent into other prides and as 'rogues' to keep tabs on suspected demons, or to report movement in the Aikanaro'hini.

Rites/Rituals

Passing of Trust - During the Solstices, the two contingencies of Shetani'msasi and Mmoja mpaka Halisisha 'switch places' essentially. But for two days a year...the entire pride is together in celebration. During the Passing of the Summer Trust, they celebrate the longest day of Light. During the Passing of the Winter Trust, they mourn the deep Darkness of the longest night. They are also doubly on guard during the Winter Trust...

Rite of Passage - When an Tarajali becomes an adult, they must go through a rite pertaining to their chosen class. Each rite is tailored to the cub by the Jua, Mwezi, Udole, Mdomo, and Kono; but examples include taking down a rather challenging prey-beast by oneself if trying to be an Msasi, or besting an Aikanaro'hini and bringing back a trophy of some sort if wanting to be a Shetani'msasi.

Blood-Bonding - When two lions of the Mwako'bi'Giza decide they are close enough to be siblings, despite not being such by birth, they under-go this ritual. Each lion makes a horizontal cut on the center pad of their right paw. Then they put their paws together with the cuts together, and the Mwezi has them recite vows of loyalty to one another. Once the vows have been said, the two lions are allowed to take it easy for a little while the cuts heal.

Marriage - Marriage is a truly rare thing for the Mwako'bi'Giza. Though cubs are needed and often loved by the entire pride...mates are another story. Love happens, and it happens often...but few lions want to tie their mate down, if anything bad happens to them. But when two lions, sometimes a lion and non-lion even, feel strongly enough for one another, they go through the marriage. It is a joyous time, with a vow-exchange ceremony where each Mwako'bi'Giza gives the other a matching wearable gift to show they are mates. It is followed by a great feast and party, with singing and dancing and games. Marriages are planned weeks in advance, so the hunters know when to go out in order to bring back enough for the feast, avians can be sent out to bring back any travelling Shetani'msasi and Mmoja mpaka Halisisha, and so the couple have time to work on the vows they wish to say.

Birth - Cubs are precious to the pride. They represent hope and the Light they seek to carry on through the Darkness. As such, births are a joyous occasion. The pregnant female is never left alone, because of the enemies the pride has made, but the only male allowed near her when her birth pains begin is her mate. When the birth is over, the Mwezi blesses each cub and welcomes them to the world. If the current Mwezi is male, he waits outside the birthing den until the last cub is born. After the blessing, the cubs are introduced to the rest of the pride, then the new family left alone. If the mother is a Mlisha, the cubs stay with her; if not, the cubs are given to a Mlisha who recently had cubs after the mother spends a few days with them.

New Members - How one joins the Mwako'bi'Giza depends on age, really. Cubs and juveniles that are 'adopted' into the pride are treated like any other pride cub, though they must have the Mwezi bless them and introduce them to the pride, like a newborn. If they are an adolescent, they must prove willing to learn a trade, and learn it well. Adults go through something similar to the Rite of Passage...but they are not allowed to be Shetani'msasi or Mmoja mpaka Halisisha. Non-lions are treated the same as lions.

Death - Death happens. When a lion dies, or they recover the body of one of their own that was killed, they take the body to a ravine near the western borders. The family and close friends of the deceased follow the Mmoja mpaka Halisisha and Shetani'msasi who carry the body, and no words are said. Once they reach the ravine, blessings are said for the next life from all those present, and the body is hefted into the ravine to give back to the cycle of nature.

Hunting Parties - When a particularly dangerous demon-lion is located or heard of, a group of Shetani'msasi, Mmoja mpaka Halisisha, and Shuuja gather and go to track down and take out the target.

Location

User Image

The Mwako'bi'Giza are located South of the Aikanaro'hini. Their Eastern borders lie very close to the Mwana-a'Lela and the Antianeira. Most of their pridal land is savannah, with large clumps of trees dotted across it in places. Near the 'center' of the pridal lands is a well that feeds a river flowing westward...and it is around there that the pride gathers. It is surrounded by trees and flowers, and not far from it is a large rocky area where no grass grows...perfect for training.
When it does choose to rain in the area, several rather old and large trees have grown enough that their roots form 'caves' that keep out rain rather effectively.

((OOC NOTE: I have included the Antianeira in here, though they are not official. Why? I wouldn't mind at all if the Antianeira were 'neighbors' for the Mwako'bi'Giza.))

Relations

Aikanaro'hini - The Mwako'bi'Giza's sworn enemies. These demon-lions are the bane of the Mwako'bi'Giza's existence...and yet they are the reason the Mwako'bi'Giza pride was founded. A little known fact: the founding Mwezi of Mwako'bi'Giza, Moto'nyota, is the sister of one of Aikanaro'hini's founders, Hakuna'jina.

Antianeira - Their allies. This all-female pride sheltered Moto'nyota while she healed from her encounter with her sister, and she was forever grateful. Though the pride's lifestyle did not suit her, Moto would not leave her friends in the dust. The Mwako act as a buffer between the Aikanaro'hini and the Antianeira, and should the amazons call for help, the Mwako are more than willing to give it. The male cubs of the Antianeira are also sent to the Mwako, some young, others at an older age. And if female cubs of the Mwako wish to join the amazons, they are encouraged to follow the path they feel is right.

Mwana-a'Lela - n/a

Leopards, Cheetahs, and Hybrids - The Mwako'bi'Giza welcome their feline kin with open arms, including the hybrids. They are just as likely to be found in high ranks as lions are.

Wild Dogs and Hyenas - Though they are welcome in the pride, and can hold jobs just as the felines can, they are not allowed into the higher ranks.

Familiars - Their smaller furry and feathered friends are invaluable to the pride. They can carry messages, scout ahead, lure demons to a waiting Hunting Party...or fight alongside their larger friends.

Brief Description of the current status of your Pride/Pack: A new pride, founded to combat the Aikanaro'hini and other demons who wander the savanna. It is just beginning, but already it has gathered quite a few under its banner...There are many who have been hurt by the demons, and many who would fight them. Founded by a demon herself, they seek to bring light to those demons who are not 'evil'...and destroy those who are.
The pride is currently lead by Moto'nyota and her mate Serithi, and they have a strong alliance with the Antianeira. Settling in will be hard...but they knew what they were getting into.
