Most pokemon can learn moves outside their type, we all know this. But with recent games and the joy of breeding, the potential for pokemon to have abilities far removed from their true elemental type has risen dramatically.

I have one such pokemon that I'm incredibly fond of. Back when Gold and Silver first introduced breeding (anyone else feel old?) I discovered that vulpix could learn hypnosis as an egg move.
Well combine that with the TM Dream Eater with the new move, Extrasensory, that it can learn in the 40's and you get an amazing psychic vulpix. Will-o-wisp only increases the supernatural aura of what is supposed to be a simple fire type.

Does anyone else have a pokemon that they have raised to be far from the beaten path and outside their elemental comfort zone?

I totally took advantage of the Hypnosis+Dream Eater combo for Vulpix and now my pride and joy both in and out of the competitive arena is my HynoEaterLens Ninetales. No one expects my baby to slap them with an upped-accuracy Hypnosis (due to Wide Lens) and then heal herself with Dream Eater. heart

I also have a Bagon with Hydro Pump and Flamethrower. Would've evolved it, but I need it at L.5 for PBR's Tiny Cup. Other than that, I'd have to go and check.

Actually... No. xD I'm totally not much of a breeder, so I don't know how to get those moves on the pokemon and stuff. But if I did, I'm not even sure which pokemon I would use.

It's iinnssaanneeellyyy easy. You get a female of the Pokémon you want (say, Typhlosion) and you get a compatible male with the move/s you want on the baby (say, Flare Blitz, so you get a Growlithe who knows it) and you just breed them together! The babies will come out with the move/s you wanted, and even more if the father knew a TM or two that the baby can learn or if both parents knew the same move. :3

It's chain breeding, however, that's a bit of a pain.

Chainbreeding is where to breed a pokemon (A) with a move you want, you first have to breed a completely different pokemon (B) with the move because the original move holder (C) isn't compatible with the pokemon you wanted to breed in the first place (A).
It gets really complicated and I despise it. xp But it can be very useful.

A good example is Wish-vees.

Togetic learns Wish, but Eevee and Togetic can't breed. So you look for a common ground between them; A Pokémon that can breed with both.

Skitty!

So you breed Skitty with Togetic to get a male Wishing Skitty, then you breed that Skitty with the Eevee to get Wish-vees! C:

That Ninetails sounds like a really good idea. I might try to train one up in Soul Silver when I get it. I've bred a few times but not for moves specifically. I've only bred to fill my Pokedex, give someone else a Pokemon or breed for shinies.
