It's hard to imagine liking RD without liking other sci-fi. I love the stars- Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Gate- as well as sci-fi and sci-fan movies and books. i can't be the only one. So...
What do you like?
(Edit: I didn't forget Battlestar Gallactica when I mentioned the other "stars." I loved the original series, just not too fond of the new one.)

I love sci-fi shows. Other than RD I also enjoy all the stars shows/movies. I also didn't much care for the new version of Galactica. Thanks to sci-fi channel I've also managed to see the old Buck Rogers show & others. Babylon 5 & Farscape also make my list of favs.

I find it very easy to imagine liking Red Dwarf without liking the others. Because I don't. I dislike Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Gallatica, Stargate, Firefly....
Those programmes concentrate on a lot of spacey stuff, naturally, whereas RD is just comic.
I do, however, rather like Doctor Who.

I think I love RD more for the comedy, rather than the sci-fi aspect. I've never really been a big fan of things like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, but I love Doctor Who, and I do have a love for more retro sci-fi, like Steampunk and Jules Verne stories. I also really love Star Wars.

There was a great British sci-fi starring Molly Sudgen (sp?) from Are You Being Served. It was about a group of people who were on a rocket ship when it was accidentally sent off into space. Molly's character left a husband behind- every time they interviewed him he was surrounded by scantily clad young women and drinking and saying hwo much he missed his wife. It was really funny.

Hmm...let's see...
Doctor Who (old and new), Star Trek, Blake's 7, Firefly, Torchwood, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy...I watch a lot of sci-fi shows, really.

Star Trek DS 9 I think was my fave -although I love them all.
Also Dr Who - and while I love David Tennant, I think Christopher Eccleston was amazing as the doc. Any ideas who will be the next one? John Simm might be good.
Hitchikers is great -I loved the film and the series, my OH only likes the series.

I personally didn't like the Hitchhiker's Guide movie very much. It didn't follow the story very much. It followed up to the point where the Heart of Gold picked up Arthur and Ford, and that's basically where the similarities ended, aside from the Magrathea part. And the Heart of Gold itself was designed completely wrong. It's supposed to look like a running shoe.
However, I did like the Improbability Drive activation scenes. Those were funny.

I agree, but let's face it. When they make a film from a book/seiries it's never half as good is it? But still it wasn't too bad! But Mos Def should NOT have played Ford, he wasn't mad enough.

If I hadn't seen the awesome British mini-series, maybe I could have accepted the movie a bit more. But every time I read HGTTG, I hear the voices from the mini-series, and I see the actors in my mind. They ARE HGTTH in my mind! biggrin

I enjoy sci-fi movies of all stripes. As for shows, I used to watch Star Trek all the time in middle school: Next Gen, DS9, and sometimes Original series. I've seen a few of the new episodes with Scott Bakula as the captain; they're okay. I also watched Doctor Who as a kid (Tom Baker mostly), and now I'm getting into the new series as well. Actually, I'm proud to say I'm all caught up. biggrin I didn't like David Tennant at first, but after three seasons with him, I can't imagine anyone else being the Doctor. I'll be sad to see him go--if he does. I used to watch Sliders, Quantum Leap, X-Files, Buffy and I've seen a few episodes of Stargate but never really got into it. I adored the movie though. I can't think of any others right now, but I'm sure there's more...
