i write for a number of reasons: 1- i feel obligated to contribute back to something i use so often. I read other's things, why can't they read mine? 2- my stories sometimes reflect something from my personal life, it lets others try to understand me, if they want to, it can be easy to overlook, though 3- writing creates a whole other world where myself and others can escape, and forget everything negative 4- WHY NOT!! IT'S FUN!!! heart

bunbun the killer bunny 3- writing creates a whole other world where myself and others can escape, and forget everything negative Definitely my reason. I feel like there's another place inside of me, and the only way to really experience it is to write it out.

Excess amounts of alphabet soup as a child. The letters built up in my bloodstream, settled in my brain and are slowly leaking out through my fingertips.

I'll have to agree with Kiyo there... to escape reality since sometimes it really sucks. I have about 7 started and I've posted a few in the writer's corner, just posted a new one that's a sci-fi thriller collection. I write mainly cause some of the ideas are good and I don't want to forget them, so I usually write a chapter from that idea so I can go back to it and remember what it was.
and arrow: nice way to put it lol

Asking why authors write is like asking why birds fly, or why fish swim. Authors write because it is their nature. A bird could easily (ok, thats debatable. . .) walk around everywhere, and a fish could just drift, but they don't. They use their abilities. Authors use their abilities to twist simple words into complex and elaborate stories that captivate people and entertain their mind. An author writes because that is what the author must do, because the birds aren't gonna step up (nor are the bees, or those damned cockroaches) and take over.

I think that authors write for the same reason that painters pain and actors act. It is a way to express yourself. Even though we all live in the same world, we can all see it much differently. When you write you can share your vision of the world. Also, for anyone who is extremely passionate about their craft, it is a need. Just like air, food, or water. Someone who is extremely passionate about writing has to write. It burns in their veins. If they don't write they are not truly living.

to add to this...
they want to entertain, entrap and entice you. Get you to catch yourself, to grasp the full regions of your imagination. Life is somewhat like a movie, you see it as it is. A book is another ballgame, you see it as you want, you yourself picture it, you create the characters, the author simply is the actor.
The want people (i think) to get their imagination going, to see if they can interpret the true meaning behind the words that make up a scene, a poem or any other writings.
