Settling himself comfortably on a good branch only a few steps away from the medic shelter, Duskwater gave himself a good and thorough preening. He felt bone-weary, having struggled through the night and most of the day as well - in fact, the darkening canopy above indicated that sunset wasn't too far off, now - and he pondered for a moment if this was anything like what being a parent to a newly-hatched chick was like. He closed his eyes and puffed out his chest, letting his plumage slowly settle back down. No, this was probably quite different, after all: New parents would hopefully not have to witness the sort of destruction that he had had to see tonight - today... whatever. The Thunderbird had not been kind to Noctua, and though a part of him ached to throw himself back into his appointed search-and-rescue task, he knew his duty to the Clan better than that. He needed a break, to regain some energy, or he wouldn't be of much help to anyone soon. Still, sitting upright and with freshly-preened feathers, it would not be immediately obvious to a casual observer just how weary the large Ghost felt.

A few one-sided screams, of either anger or annoyance, sounded from the Medic's main hollow, and like a flash, a small chirop darted out quicker than the jagged lights from the Thunderbird. A few feathers poofed out after it, twirled, and then began their lazy float down to the ground far below as the screams from the hole began to die down and a softer voice became somewhat noticeable. "They'll come back, Dear -- Mmhmm, just like they were before -- I'm quite sure -- now you keep still or you'll pull those out again and we'll have a right time putting them back in," the calm speaker began to back herself out of the hollow. "Now you make yourself comfortable right there and I'll check back in a few minutes." With that said, the Medic pulled her head out and shuffled onto a branch directly under the hollow. She gave a large sigh, her plumage fluffed and fell as she did so. The air around her was still calm, but her large golden eyes and slightly drooping wings gave away her exhaustion in ways that the nearby Elite's did not. Speaking of said Elite, the Medic turned her head towards his darker frame, glanced up inside the hollow where the now recovering Sentinel still faintly complained about missing feathers, and then shuffled more down the branch. "May I join you?" she asked, almost suddenly, up towards the Elite.

Dusk's bright eyes snapped open at the sudden commotion and he watched the fleeing chirop and the slowly descending feathers with raised ear tufts. When the medic finally stepped out of the shelter he gave her a brief inspection, noting the obvious - and unsurprising - fatigue. Seems he wasn't the only one who had had to work through the day.
He let his ear tufts sink back and closed his eyes again, listening as the medic scooted a bit closer. He hadn't really expected her to say anything, so his plumage puffed out very slightly in surprise when she did, and he turned his head to look at her.
"Of course," he rumbled quietly with a small nod at the Wildtype, and turned to preen one of his wings. Not because it was really needed, but because of the slightly awkward feeling that he often got when being spoken to in a casual manner like this: He never knew what to say.
Up close, not even the stubbornness of Duskwater could hide all the little tell-tale signs of his weariness: It was in his eyes, in the way that he was breathing as if in small sighs, and many other little subtleties. But his back was proudly straight and his wings carefully tucked. Settling back, the large Ghost pondered if he was perhaps supposed to try to make some sort of conversation.

The Medic gave a bob of her head in "Thank You" and scooted a bit closer, leaving a few feet between them for both their sakes. She kept her silence for a minute or so, and gave a quick, half-interested preen of a few shoulder feathers before she tightened the fold of her weary wings.
Despite her fatigue, however, her silence couldn't be kept up, and she turned her amber-brown head towards the large Elite, his daunting size and rank having no effect on her extroverted nature.
"You were the one who brought in my newest patient, yes?" she asked, her voice still soft and calm. She knew the answer, but she had to start conversation in some way. "Must have been quite the time getting them here; the Dear is still making a fuss over a bald spot and missing feathers rather than the scrapes and bruises."
She gave a chuckle before she added, "She'll be fine, though."

Duskwater couldn't help but heave a slightly wry sigh at the mention of the female he had just escorted to this shelter. Did that woman like to complain? She had done little else all throughout their flight - first about her aches and bruises, which he could understand, then about her missing feathers, which he found a bit more strange. He had tried to point out to her that as long as she could fly well, there wasn't much to whine about as far as missing feathers went: They'd grow back out, after all. But that had just set her off complaining about him and his "heartlessness" and how he couldn't understand, because it was a girl thing. Accepting this, he had chosen to remain quiet, and then she had complained about his bad manners for not talking to her.
And some people asked him why he found it so hard to interact with non-combatants. He gave the medic by his side a small but eloquent smile.
"I'm glad to hear that. It was... a bit of a challenge, yes." After a brief pause he decided to add: "She almost seem to like complaining. I was half convinced that she was a lot worse off, at first, with all the noise she was making."

"Mmhmm, I do believe that I've gotten that same notion," she stated in agreement after her initial laughter subdued itself to a "hooing" chuckle. She gave a glance towards the dark hollow where the fussy Sentinel was. "Dealing with others under both regular and chaotic times are certainly hit-and-miss deals -- I've already seen hundreds of different mental states and it's only been a couple days since the storm first hit. Hopefully everything will go back in its place soon ... including that Sentinel's feathers."
She gave another chuckle at her patient's problems in spite of herself before she lowered her beak to preen at a few chest feathers. She stopped suddenly, however, and looked back at the Elite. "Which reminds me; how are you fairing? If you don't mind me saying, you look like a right tired man -- which is understandable, of course," she quickly added, hoping that her unchecked chattering hadn't insulted the large male.
"I have some tea berry that could perk you right up, if you'd like."

At the sound of the medic's laughter, Duskwater felt a lot better. A few tensions that he hadn't been aware of earlier slipped away, and his own beak opened in a small smile. He nodded his agreement at her talk about the aftermath of the storm and resettled himself a bit more comfortably.
At her sudden question about his own state of tiredness, his ear tufts perked up again and he gave her a nod that was meant to be reassuring.
"I'm doing quite well, thank you. Nothing to worry about." He really hoped that she wouldn't start fussing over him: He didn't mind help when he needed it, but right now he was just a little weary, and that was easy enough to cure. Then again, he reconsidered, every little thing that could help him get back on his task again... "But I wouldn't say no to those berries, of course."

The Medic bobbed her head in acknowledgment before she gave a funny wink of one of her large golden eyes. "Mmhmm, I knew nobody could resist the temptation of tea berries -- right sweet and affective they are," she chuckled heartily.
"I'll be back in a tick," she stated a moments later before she took off from the branch. She flapped up to a higher perch and then hopped from limb to limb around the fat fir tree until she was out of sight. She returned to view a few minutes later though, and in no time alighted back onto the branch that Duskwater occupied, a small parcel and a bushy sprig of fir needles held in her beak.
She shuffled on the branch slightly and then set the sprig of bushy green onto a flat part of the branch, followed by the small parcel on top of it. With a quick un-tie, the parcel's corners opened and revealed several little berries.
"There you are," the Wildtype exclaimed softly, yet happily. "Just be careful that they don't roll off. The needles should help some, but I don't know how much." She indicated to the sprig of greenery under the parcel.

Duskwater gave her a grateful nod and another one of his slight smiles.
"Thank you, Miss. That's most kind of you."
A berry rocked slightly, then slowly, carefully lifted from the fir needles. Once fully in the air, it gained some speed and flew obediently right into Dusk's expectant beak.
"Have one yourself," he suggested. "You look a little bit worse for wear, as well." His ear tufts twitched into an upright position when he suddenly realised what he had said: Females rarely liked to be reminded that they looked less than their very best. "Um, I mean... You... must also have been... working... very hard..."

The Medic perked her own ear-tufts, but let them relax a moment later. She gave an amused laugh, and her chest feathers poofed slightly in the process.
"No need to restate your previous words," she commented quickly with a chuckle. "I know I'm looking a bit haggard, but don't you worry about me -- it's my job to do all the worrying, after all!" She clicked her beak and blinked once or twice, then tilted her head slightly to one side. She half extended one of her barred wings and motioned to the berries.
"No you go on and finish those up; you're an Elite, and need them far more than I do right now."

Duskwater's feathers shifted slightly as he relaxed, happy that the medic hadn't taken offense to his thoughtlessness, and he allowed himself another subtle smile - more noticeable in his eyes than on his beak.
"I wouldn't say that, Miss. If it weren't for you medics and the hard work that you do, I probably wouldn't be sitting here today. But if you insist..." Another berry carefully rose up from the needles. This time, Dusk bowed down and met it half way.

(( DD: I am SO, SO sorry for the delay ))
The Medic gave a beaky smile as the Elite ate another berry, and she let her feathers floof lightly in some level of contentment... only to have them slick down a moment later when a thought popped into her head.
"Miss...?" she questioned quickly-- curiously -- to herself before a sudden realization showed its face. "Oh dear me!" she stated, her chirp louder than she had intended. She sunk low for a moment in embarrassment from her outburst, and then continued on in a more controlled, normal tone.
"I completely forgot to introduce myself -- you must think me awful." A small chuckle left her and her ear-tufts fell to the sides of her head. "I'm Mallow."

((Not a problem. I've been quite busy, myself. smile ))
Duskwater looked on, his own feathers sleeking back only slightly in surprise over the medic's sudden embarrassment, and blinked slowly a few times.
"N-no Miss, not at all, I-" He caught himself and let the breath out slowly, then started over again. "Miss Mallow. I'm sorry. I've been a ranger most of my life, and... some of that is still in me. I keep forgetting things such as common courtesy." He dipped into a small bow. "I should have thought to introduce myself. The name is Duskwater. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

(( x3 <3. Oh, and I think you meant to write "Duskwater" instead of "Duskwood" xD; ? *Only JUST caught that, and then giggled.* ))
Mallow's feathers sleeked even more so at the bow and his apologies. She gave a silly laugh and slightly opened her wings, re-situating herself on the branch. "Oh no no no no, the pleasure is all mine. Please -- there's no need to apologize; it's my fault, not yours. I'm the medic, after all; introductions are my job," she jabbered, and then became silent for a second or so.
The slightly awkward air started to lift, though, and she gave another laugh, her feathers rising back to normalcy a few moments later.

((Gah. xp Fixed it.))
Dusk's beak opened slightly in a smile. He liked the sound of laughter - it seemed so good at dispelling awkwardness. He sometimes wished he was better at producing it, himself.
After a brief moment of amused contemplation, he turned to the medic again, a glint of humor in his eyes. "How would introductions be your job, Miss Mallow? I thought it was about healing the sick... and putting up with the whiny." He sent a meaningful glance over at the medic's hollow, and the patient that he knew was still inside of it, moping over a few lost feathers.
