Based on what I have observed in this debate, some of the reasons people follow the literal intrepritation of the bible, is because they are ignorant and do not understand what evolution actually is.

(Of course I doubt any of them would admit it)

Disagree? Let me hear your counter argument.

I certainly don't disagree. XD

I used to be religious. I used to be REALLY ******** RELIGIOUS. (For the record, I've realized I don't have a good enough reason to be, and I'm now identified as an agnostic atheist*.) I used to be a nearly blind follower of whatever my Christian friends told me I should believe. When I questioned anything, I looked no further than the Bible for answers. As interesting a book as the Bible is.. it's certainly not a reliable source for proving much anything.

In those days I fell prey to Colossians 2:8, which reads, "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." Quite honestly I think Paul put a great deal of cracked-out personal opinion into his letters and I have no idea why they're accepted as scripture.

*An explanation for those who are unfamiliar with my terminology: Yes, I am an agnostic atheist. This doesn't mean I'm wishy-washy in my beliefs or lack thereof. It simply means that I admit that I don't have ultimate knowledge of the universe, and after coming to my senses, sitting down and thinking about things as well as researching, I realized I have insufficient reasons to believe in gods, and that my beliefs only existed in my mind out of ignorance and fear. I lack belief in gods because I lack evidence to prove their existence, but I don't necessarily discount the possibility.

Deeply flawed ideas about evolution can be viewed in creations from across the entire spectrum of sophistication. It is a problem that can only, unfortunately, be dealt with by time sustained effort on the behalf of both the scientific community and the creationists themselves. And unfortunately, they're not interested for the most part.
