The last platformer game that I played was Jak 3, finishing the trilogy. Shortly after that, I noticed that there are less and less platformers coming out. Besides the old/new spiro games, or ratchet and Clank, I've yet to find a new platformer for the PS2.
What happened? Are they dying out? Since I've been out of th gamer world for a while, I also don't know of any good new platformers.
Any suggestions?

I'm a little curious about that too. Platform games were my favourite, before I discovered RPGs. Crash Bandicoot was my first Playstation game back in the day.
Maybe platformers aren't as popular, because the average age of the gamer is rising, so the tastes are changing? With more people wanting games they can play online, developers might want to put those kinds of games out before focusing on single player games. I'd love for there to be remakes of classic platform games on newer systems.

Not only that, but younger gamers, (like my idiot ten year old cousin) are playing things like Call of Duty, claiming that those are the only 'real' games.
*sigh* Stupid boys...

*sigh* Stupid boys... Oh I hate that! I wanted to kill my twelve year old cousin for playing Grand Theft Auto! When I was a kid, I started out playing the classics on super nintendo. I played Donkey Kong, Super Mario. Nowadays I see kids starting out with ridiculous games! One thing I will defend Disney for, is that it actually comes out with games KIDS can play! Dammit! Keep stuff like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and any M rated games away from twelve year olds!

ah, platforms. how I miss thee. the good old days of PS1 Crash Bandicoot were great. <3 Jak and Daxter, too.
like MipsyKitten said, platforms probably just aren't as popular as they once were. many gamers are too caught up in their shooters and their online games. :C
I would love to see a good platform for one of the new consoles. >3<

pu...platforms are what i grew up with. i think its more as you've done a game so many times that it loses its luster. platforms were the original RPG but people are more into Great graphics and a story line ... i think in my mine they've become babyish...i ready for bigger and better things but its always fun to go back to a platform

Platformers are dying out. Traditionally they were 2D. In a 3D world, they start to loose their touch. They evolved into Prince of Persia and even... if you would consider it... Assassin's creed.

It's so sad that platformers are becoming extinct. They're were something I'd actually allow my 4-year-old cousin to play. As long as they were age approriate of course. wink

Now I'm not saying that violent games cause violence in real life, but I still think that rated M games should be kept away from children!

I agree. Spyro and Crash were amazing and I still play them. There are newer PS2 sequels etc, but they never come up to par so I guess companies have given up with them (for now!)

When you say platforms, I'm so old school I don't think of 3D games like Spiro and Crash Bandicoot.
I think of the old side scrollers. blaugh Gah, I'm old.
But I rented Brawl this week and found it funny that it has a side scrolling element (you know, other than the obvious).
