Orochi Village Ruins

Deep within the swamps of the Rice Country lies the ruins of the Orochi village. The village was destroyed during the war between Shimagakure. Many lives were lost and the village is barely recognizable since most its trees, stone gates and other architects lie in shambles. The Orochi village is nearly impossible to find if you've never been there before...
PostPosted: Wed Jun 04, 2008 11:02 am

Twilight - The boat ride had gone over quickly for Tenmoki Yuki and her squad. She had spent most of her time briefing the boys and Natamo on the dangers of facing an orochi warrior. She had warned them to stay clear of being bitten or hit with any projectiles that could carry poison. Yuki carried three antidotes within her second medical pack located on the back of her belt even though she had the poison extraction technique. That technique itself was a challenge to perform while on the battlefield. Many things could go wrong if she used that technique during battle and she made this clear to her comrades that it would be a last effort and using the antidotes came first.

The area of the rice country in which the Orochi's lived reminded Yuki of the forest of sorrows back in Shimagakure, but far more ancient and dangerous. Her feet move carefully onto secure patches of earth and strong uprooted tree trunks as she lead the way for teams one and two. Sachiriku had given herself and Shinichi instructions and a clear operation to execute. Yuki's team would lead the head on assault at the front gates to the village. There was no avoiding the Orochi's from spotting intruders coming up on the front gates. They would have catapults up in an attempt to stop the shinobi from advancing. Yuki knew that it would only slow them down. Slowing down at the distance Sachiriku had told her to mark, the medical shinobi looked back at her squad and Shinichi's.

"Natamo and I will take the front. Kane and Naru follow in directly behind us, then when we pass the point where their catapults can no longer fire, flank out and be prepared to take on guards," Yuki explained knowing her team would be the ones used as a distraction. "We will occupy the guards and hold the front gates while Team 2 breaks the gates and moves inside. We will continue to hold the gates while setting up the explosives. Our post is the escape route, so we will stay stationed until the last man is out before blowing the doors behind us," Tenmoki made sure she went over everything that Natamo, Naru and Kane would need to know. She then looked over at Dhan, Shinichi, Aya, Maya and Baki. "Move in on the gates the moment we intercept the guards," she said with a nod before turning towards the village that was barely visible. The Orochi village was covered in swamp plants and built into trees. It would have taken decades to find such a village if Shimagakure didn't have Sachiriku and Seshiro.

"Any questions?" Yuki asked to the two squads. It was imperative that everyone knew their place and plot of actions. Covering the gates is the most essential part of getting out of this surprise attack alive and Yuki wanted to make sure everyone was on edge and prepared. It was not a training exercise that she could call to stop and explain what was going wrong. If they made a mistake, they would have to live with it. Training was over for these shinobi.

Natamo was falling in love with the country, though she'd never been here before. The way the trees and the swamps formed a natural protection, she decided she would have loved to grow up here because she could only imagine the different sorts of animals she would have been able to find and raise in the trees and swamps. Snakes, of course - other reptiles? Reptiles were hard to raise, though, especially in cold times. Winters were tough on the cold-blooded beasts...oh well. Natamo listened carefully to Yuki - they were to be the diversion team, and Shinichi's team would go in to destroy the gate. That didn't sound too bad, and Natamo found herself wishing she had found the time to train an animal companion. She would have to go out and find an infant to train, or an amicable old beast - though Natamo could handle just about any animal that came her way.

With a nod, Natamo signaled that she understood completely what her job here was, and what she had to do. She made sure she carried her weapon on her, though she may not have needed it, and wondered if she would do better to fight hand to hand. Ah, well...she would have to make do with what she had brought, and she could always just not use her weapons. She chuckled at the thought and kept her rapt attention on Yuki, ready to go whenever the woman gave the signal.

Maya and Baki listened intently to Yuki's words. Break gates? That sounded like something animals would do, brutish and wild! Maya's eyes glowed, and she grinned wildly. Perfect. Baki, next to her, growled softly, stretching out easily and easing himself into a good position to take off running from. They had one chance at destroying the gate, at making a dent in the power of this village that was a glaring threat to her 'home' island. Maya could remember once being from the mainland...but Shimagakure was her home now, and she would defend it no matter what. And...even if that meant fighting against Seshiro's clan...well, that was the way it would have to be. But even Seshiro was here fighting - Maya couldn't be doing something too wrong if Seshiro had chosen to fight against his clan as well. Reassured, Maya let her hand linger over the tekagi strapped to her hip. Hands on at the gate, and if anyone got in her way...she'd slice them to ribbons.

"Hai," Kane said softly and nodded once Yuki finished talking. This environment wasn't exactly peachy to him. Sure, it was on the mainland, but a different one, not dry like the Fire Country but wet and marshy and sticky. He knew that such concerns were trivial, but old habits died hard. He moved closer to Yuki. He was still a little unsure about things, this being his first big mission for the village (Tonato was a big mission for himself).

Honestly, Kane was not that confident. He only had one big jutsu, his clan jutsu, and that was risky to use in battle. He wasn't particularly versed in battle and if he got into deep s**t he could only rely on basic tactics such as Bunshin as well as his earth wall. He guessed that he would just have to wing it and not fail the team.

Naru wasn't to particular about this mission nor being under the watchful eye of this Tenmoki Yuki. She already seemed to have a death wish towards him since he had been toying with her little Aya. The Meho knew he couldn't rely on that woman to support him in battle nor that other woman who tamed beasts and pretended to know genjutsu. That left this blond and beautiful boy. Naru moved beside the Yamanaka while Yuki continued to go over the situation. Flowers. That's all he could smell of the clothes of this shinobi. It was strange, but definitely a delicacy that Naru enjoyed. His dark eyes didn't hide the fact that he was staring directly at Kane. When the young man spoke softly, Naru turned his attention back to Yuki and let out a small sigh from between his lips. "Ready," he said carelessly as if this was a task that was as simple as doing the laundry.

Not entirely liking Naru's attitude, but feeling the anxiousness from Natamo and ready to try from Kane, Yuki knew that they were good to go. "Let's go then," Yuki said without hesitation after getting confirmation from her squad and darting out into the marshes. Tenmoki knew that it wouldn't take long until the catapults would begin their firing. For all that she knew, the Orochi's knew they were present and they were just waiting for them to enter firing range. With her feet barely touching the ground as she ran, her emerald green eyes picked up on the first ball soaring into the air. "Here they come!" Yuki shouted back to her squad and team 2 that should be falling in behind them. She hoped that her warning shot back to the others would give them a sufficient heads up to avoid the first wave. However, the balls seemed to explode on impact. It was no doubt a tactic from using the black powder in fireworks as weapons. Keeping her body low, so the explosions would fly over her silvery green head, Yuki continued to advance towards the gates. Her arms reached back to pull her spear free from its holster on her back. She would make sure to clear the way for Team 2 to move through. Yuki was nervous about her daughter advancing into the village, but she knew that her daughter was amongst the strongest...

As Yuki gave the signal to head out, Naru turned towards Kane one last time with merely an upturn of his lips, giving a smile, but showing no teeth. "Don't mar up that pretty face now," Naru said as his soft hands reached out to briefly touch the jawline of Kane's face before he took off behind Yuki. She had said to follow directly behind her and that was just what he would do, until they reached the gates where they would all branch out. His dark eyes looked to the sky as Tenmoki gave the heads up. "How weak and primitive," Naru said to himself as he quickly sprinted past the flaming balls coming from behind the gates of the Orochi village. Did they actually beileve that they could stop any of them with such attacks?

Twilight: Aya had spent her entire time on the boat trying to learn Kuchiyose no jutsu and really didn't speak to anyone~

Aya stayed close to Maya and Baki as they walked through the swamps and marshlands of the Rice Country. The little Tenmoki girl was overjoyed in these surroundings! Everything was so green and full of life that it was growing over and just spilling out every which way! The swamp was by far an interesting place. Aya could think of nothing else other than playing tag, hide and seek or training in the marshlands. The girl tried to keep her focus, but her eyes just continued to wander around until she heard everyone come to a hault. Crouching down behind Baki and Maya, Aya listened to her mother speak. This was the first time Aya had ever been on a mission with an adult, excluding Tomoko from the group of course. The way she spoke and gave out orders didn't seem any different from how she did in the village. Her mother was calm, cool and collective as she always was.

Looking over at everyone else who was gathered, Aya began to get excited. Maya was already reaching for her Tekagi! Tapping her fingers against the outside of her leg, Aya couldn't wait to see what the Orochi village looked like! From afar, Aya could barely make out houses since everything was camoflauged within the swamp. As her mother looked back and asked for questions, Aya shook her head no. She knew her mission and she would follow behind Shinichi and Dhan without hesitation! The moment Team 1 began to move, Aya immediately fell behind them and rushed in. She would need to avoid the guards at the gates and trust Naru, Kane, Natamo and Yuki to hold their attention while they forced their way into the gate. In her head, Aya found this like a game. She could play leap frog over the guards! When Yuki called back to everyone to give a warning call, Aya's big blue eyes looked up to spot the oncoming attacks. Aya was fast, but she wasn't too much of a sprinter. Her speed came from reaction and impulse not pure strength. Trying to move her feet quickly, Aya tried to keep up in order to avoid the first attacks.

Moving quickly and making sure to stay behind Team 1, it proved more difficult to avoid the catapults. The first one that came barrelling down was easily avoided thanks to Moma-Yuki's head's up. Aya was able to duck down low and continue running quickly past it. However, this put her in a position where a second volly crashed down right in front of her, exploding on impact. The heat form the explosion sent Aya falling back. At the last minute she was able to put up her arms to block just a tid bit of the explosion, so she didn't get hit with full damage, but she still took the majority of it. One of her hands fell to the ground in order to brace herself from falling completely down. "Hu~" Aya breathed, letting out a large amount of air she had been holding in when she had realized a hit was coming. The burns that mangaed to get past her clothes and melt her skin stung. Aya didn't want to risk getting hit again, so she did what she was beast at; using ninjutsu.

Before the next wave came, Aya activated her shunshin no jutsu in order to give her a great burst of speed to catch up and steer clear of the attacks. She moved faster with the aid of her chakra. The balls of fire and explosives that the catapults hurled towards them fell around Aya at safe distances that she wouldn't be injured. The gates were clear now just in front of Yuki and Naru. Aya would wait until they intercepted the guards before jumping over to break down the gates with her squad. Her blue eyes looked over to Shinichi and Dhan, the leaders of their team. She didn't want to lose sight of them. Aya had never been in a squad where there were team leaders. The girl was used to just functioning with her and Kana, so this was different. She would try her best to follow her commanders though! She wanted to show Shinichi just how much she had grown!

Natamo, for a moment, was disoriented by Naru's actions towards Kane. She grew irritated - she lost her cool, lost her calm, and realized much too late that the Orochi had set off catapults. Holy CRAP! With no time to react, Natamo could only bite back swears as not one, but three of the volleys hit her straight on. She was agitated now, and angry - she had let Naru get her attention, when she knew clearly that the man was nothing but a pain in the a**. Why he was allowed to stay, Natamo didn't know, and she made no attempt at hiding her great disdain and displeasure for the man - but only for a minute. After being pelted, Natamo surged forward behind Yuki, hoping beyond hope that she wouldn't be the weak link in the group to be killed by flying missiles from the reptilian village. That would definitely suck.

Maya flew forward, eyes focused on the gates before her. The whistle of the flying attack objects in the air demanded to be paid attention to, but Maya paid them no mind - she never did. Like in her fight with Ichi, she focused on what she needed to do, and not on what could possibly stop her from doing so. A bad thing, yes, though Maya's tolerance for pain was understandable. However, if she was hurt badly on the way into the village, there was no way she'd be able to help. Baki at her side, she hoped beyond hope that they would make it in and be able to fight side by side with everyone else.

Baki shot forward next to Maya, his claws still retracted - he wouldn't let them out until his prey was in sight. His low growls grew in volume, and pretty soon it was obvious that within the next few minutes there would be a booming roar filling the air around them. Baki's golden eyes were sharp, focused, though his ears were on the whizzing items in the air. He did hate flying things...he never really knew where they would land, which irritated him, of course. Obviously, these villagers had no sense of fighting hand to hand, and seemed to prefer long distance fighting. He snarled, ready to charge and tear out the insides of the first enemy that got in his way. He yowled as one of the shots hit his tail (talk about marksmanship), and bared his ivory fangs as he continued to charge.

Maya stumbled, losing her focus and feeling herself stiffen as her eyes caught sight of the things flying in the air. Catapults! She stumbled, catching herself on a tree branch and bracing herself for the hit. She winced, though her tawny eyes showed no pain. Instead, anger began to bubble, rage at the attack. Of course she knew she wouldn't escape unscathed, but even so, it would have been nice to be injured in a real fight, not an attack from the distance. She snapped her jaws, waiting to see if an opening would ... well, open up so that she could jet to the gates and destroy the stupid thing. She eyed Yuki and Kane, Natamo and the rest of them from team one - they were doing a good job, though Natamo seemed to be coming up on the bad end of the stick. Not good...a distraction wasn't good if it was useless or dead. With a growl, Maya turned and kept her eyes peeled, aware that Baki had made it to the gate.

Baki jetted forward, reaching the gates a few steps ahead of Maya and turning, only to grow angry at seeing her get hit by one of the flying objects. He snarled, pacing and wanting to lunge out and protect her, but she was tough - she would get to him soon enough, if not sooner. Baki turned his attention instead to the gates, wondering just how they were going to destroy it. It was tall and it seemed tough, and the heads of the snakes seemed to spell out their doom. Snakes...he snarled and made hissing noises at them, remembering the white snakes that they had encountered in the Forest of Sorrows back at home. Evil reptiles with their fangs and venom...Baki just really wanted to tear into one now and rid the world of them. Really, what good did they do? Besides keeping the rodent population in check, snakes were a threat to people - to Maya.

Maya gritted her teeth - there! An opening, and team one was doing a great job of distracting the idiot people aiming the stupid catapults. She ducked her head, and shot forward, leaping over a protruding tree root and grinning as her feet barely sunk into the swamp - her speed was too great, and instead of staying stuck, she scrambled onto the next tree root and patch of earth, muck between her toes cool and wet. Damn, but she should have asked Shuga for shoes...oh well. She reached the gate easily this time, with only a small cut on her shoulder. Not like she needed her shoulder anyway. Blood on her knuckles would have been bad, because then wielding the tekagi would hurt more than usual, which would have been horrible. Then she wouldn't be able to cause as much damage as she could using full force. She hesitated - she was already thinking of killing someone again...! She bit her lip, but then shook her head. Resolve...these villagers tried to hurt Shimagakure, like the white haired b***h had tried to hurt Hanabira and the rest of her team. Death was the only possible outcome for the enemies of Shimagakure.

As Yuki sped through the line of fire, she threw down a senbon that had a red tag tied to its end. This marked the distance in which the catapults could no longer reach. Naru was close behind, Aya, Maya and Baki were all following close behind as well, but there seemed to be one person straggling. In order to hold back the guards, Yuki executed the seals for her earth clone technique. Two clones came into play, ready to hold back the guards to allow team 2 to advance. While they did their part, Yuki doubled-back to Natamo who had taken lead with her and absorbed a lot of the fire. The animal tamer had done her best to keep up behind her, but she was falling behind now. "C'mon, love," Yuki said to the woman as her soft pampered hands grabbed hold of the tough muscular arms of the woman. Tenmoki needed her up at the gates now to hold back the guards for the others to pass through. Natamo was a strong fighter, but not a good sprinter... Tenmoki would move up with her to the gates to grab the guards' attention while team 2 moved up.
