The young woman numbly entered the beautifully crafted gates of the extravagent temple complex. It didn't aw her as it once had. Now her steps were heavy as she turned for a small building, somewhat seperate from the rest. She shoved open the door, and made her way down the dimly lit corridor. Her feet felt like lead as she tried to find her way down the dark stairs into a chamber filled with amazingly lifelike crystal statues of humans and animals alike.

In the center, an eery blue light shone down from a stainglassed window up above. The girl sighed heavily, and stepped into it. Once she had, she felt as though her feet had become part of the stone tiles, and she could no longer move them. The sensation crept up her legs and torso, down her arms, and over her neck.

A single tear slid down her transparent cheeks of crystal as she thought of this price she was paying. It landed on the ground with a resounded clatter, now a bead of glass. Some spirits came in and moved the crystalized girl's form to another part of the room, next to all the others, and awaited the next one, whenever the came.

Meanwhile, the girl opened her eyes to see the temple courtyard once more. Her body was translucent and looked washed out. She was a spirit of the temple now. A ghost if you will. Condenmed to serve in this place for eternity.

Notes

This is kind of an FAQ thing.

Why are there ghosts here?
The Spirit Goddess, Ratana, lends out her powers to mortals on private missions. However, the price for this strength is that once their job is done, then they must serve Ratana forever. The temple complex is just their base, and home.

What are the powers of the spirits?
The powers of the spirits take on many forms. From weapons that know the differance between friend and foe, to various kinds of magic, to walking through walls (only brief periods of time though) and other such things.

Who is Ratana?
Goddess of Spirits, and a somewhat spoiled and bratty one at that. Perhaps the most surprising thing is that she has the form of a small Siamese-type cat.

What kind of character can I play if I don't want to be a ghost?
You may be a human that lives in the village outside the temple, or another god or goddess that visits the complex to hire Ratana's ghosts for various jobs that they need done. Any other beings must be run by me for permission first.

What's the temple like?
The temple's main courtyard, and the inner chamber where Ratana resides are the only places that mortals are allowed to enter. Unless of course they are on their way to the chamber where crystal statues are held. But there are also gardens, shrines, vaults of treasure, and dungeons. The surrounding area is a dense forest save for the single road to and from it.

What time period is it?
Medieval...sort of. But with a bit of an ancient Greek flare in that they worship many gods and goddesses. But it's not set on Earth, so don't tie in events and such from our history, please.

more to be added later...

Accepted Profiles--Ghosts

Gaia Name: Gemmetra
Character Name: Mirana
Age When Crystalized: 23
Appearence: Mirana is fairly tall for a girl, but has never let it bother her. Her skin is translucent now that she's a spirit, but not as deathly pale as you might expect. Her hair used to be much shorter, but it's difficult to cut something that technically doesn't exist.
Personality: Mirana is very laid back and calm. There's very litte that can upset her greatly, and she's been becomming more and more detatched from the world around her since she died. Ironic, isn't it. She is loyal to Ratana, unlike most of the spirits, and it's said that she was the the cats first victim.
Bio: Mirana has been around longer than most of the other spirits. She spends most of her time by Ratana's throne as a guard. But she wanders around the grounds sometimes when her master allows. She borrowed the power of the spirits to redeem her family name of a crime they didn't do. She speaks little of it, so no one is sure exactly what that was. And she speaks even less about Ratana other than she should be obeyed. Supposedly, however, the goddess has told her how a spirit can regain their human form.
Weapon: A spear that looks to be made of crystal, but is made of spirit magic.
Job in Complex: Ratana's personal guard and assistant.
Other: It is rumored that Mirana knows how to become a living creature again, but she has neither told others how, nor done so herself.

Gaia Name: Reaper Ds
Character Name: Darren Blake
Age When Crystalized:24
Appearence: Darren was never a big fan of having heavy armor. So when he made his fighting outfit he put in very little metallic armor and relied on his own skill of dodging and blocking over praying they don't chop through metal plates.
Personality: Darren was raised on a farm and always believed that if you work hard anything can be accomplished. As he got older he started to help people with his strength and doing what he though to be right. When in his adult age he had lost all of his ego and only did things if he felt people would be grateful for these tasks. At a moments whim he would throw himself into harms way for a complete stranger.
Bio: Darren is one of the newer sprits so he is still trying to grasp the whole being dead thing. He has tried to make friends with the other sprits but most are older then him and just ignore when Darren tries to make conversation. He had borrowed the powers because a band of bandits came into town talking a ten of the young women and Darren's first attempt to stop them ended up with him getting a few broken bones. Once he had got the power he found and killed the twenty some bandits and returned the girls home. He felt proud that day even though he knew what was to come. Darren is not very fond of the complex he grew up in a small village and spent most his life on the outskirts of town, so spending most his time inside the complex is like the opposite of what he is use to. Although he his getting more capable with these conditions.
Weapon: In picture.
Job in Complex:
Other: Darren is a very curious person and keeps trying to find more information about being dead and any ways he can go back to his old life.

Gaia Name: LordOfTheAsylum
Character Name: Adam Lycerith
Age When Crystallized: 22
Appearence: Adam looks very much like his brother, except that he has red hair and his skin is much paler now. If you were to see them next to each other you would think they were twins. He always wears black and lets his messy hair hang down in his face, shadowing his eyes.
Personality: Though Adam looks just like Jack, the two could not have more different personalities. Adam is colder and contemplative, always focused and poised. His mind is always buzzing with plots out of anger and the desire for vengeance. Part of him is much like a child: he is greedy and demanding and throws violent fits when he doesn’t get what he wants. His temper is much worse then his brother‘s. Despite his many flaws, Adam has a way of making himself seem normal and even charming, but the coldness never leaves his eyes.
Bio: Adam hates life at the complex. He feels confined and cheated, even though he was the one who agreed to the deal. He borrowed the power after falling in love with a married woman. He went to the temple to ask for two things: First, the strength to kill the the husband without regret or sorrow, and second, for the woman to fall in love with him immediately after and for them to be together until death. A week later, Adam was to marry the woman, but only a day before the wedding she killed herself, no longer able to bare the loss of her first husband. After her death Jack was forced to go to the temple to serve eternity.
Weapon: Adam caries with him an obsidian sword with an emerald hilt that matches his eyes.
Job in Complex: none
Other: Adam now appears to be the same age as his brother, though in fact he is a few years older.

Accepted Profiles--Other Beings

Gaia Name: Gemmetra
Character Name: Ratana
Age: She's immortal, no one knows how long she's existed.
Race: goddess
Appearence: Ratana has the form of a small Siamese cat with a fancy blue collar and ocean blue eyes. She's very fuzzy, and has large ears. Her claws are very sharp, and the only thing that can harm one of her subjects. They look like finely cut saphires.
Personality: Ratana has the mentality of a spoiled child. Even among the immortals she considered a brat and annoyance. She's fairly honest, however, though sometimes it's brutally so. She loves to be petted, and scratched behind the ears.
Bio: Ratana has been tempting mortals with power since she first came into existance. She loves having them work for her, and obey her commands. She also has decided to make a buisness out of it, but renting them out for quests and jobs that both mortals and immortals alike need help with. She's one of the few beings that can actually touch them too.
Job: Goddess of Spirits.
Other: N/A

"]Gaia Name: LordOfTheAsylum
Character Name: Jack Lycerith
Age: 22
Race: Human
Appearence: Jack's eyes are an emerald green that are often cold. His skin is darker while his hair is lighter blonde, both due to his long hours working in the sun. Much like the rest of his body, Jack's hands are rough from work. He has broad shoulders and is tall, standing at 6'3, with compact musculature. He always wears natural colors like browns and dark greens.
Personality: Jack is distant and withdrawn but not unkind. He has been known to give curt but friendly nods to people while staying a safe distance away. Normally he is thoughtful, contemplating random facts of life, but in stressful situations he is rash and reckless. Jack struggles to keep his temper and quick tongue under control. He is protective and sometimes cool, and curious to a fault.
Bio: Jack was born and raised on farm land just on the outskirts of town with his mother, father, older brother and two sisters. When his brother left for bigger things, Jack was expected to take over his responsibilities as he was the only other son and the second oldest child. Despite Jack having extra work, things went pretty smoothly. Three years later, however, Jack's father died of an illness. Jack had only just turned 17 and couldn't handle the extra burden of overseeing the whole farm. The three women and Jack all moved into town and took up work at the tavern next door. Jack now waits to be hired for odd jobs in between his work at the tavern to make extra money. When he was younger he had enjoyed visiting the local temple, and now that he lives so near to it he goes to it as often as possible on his breaks.
Job: Various odd jobs

Gaia Name: Gemmetra
Character Name: Thanos
Age: Immortal, but looks 40
Race: god
Appearence: Thanos is very tall and thin. He normally wears black robes so it's difficult to see much else. His skin is fairly pale, though maybe not as much as you would expect. He has jet black hair that he lets hang over his white eyes. He likes to carry a knobby staff as a walking stick and an outlit to cast his magic. (yes I know, he's kind of cliche)
Personality: Thanos is stubborn and selfish. He hates children, particularly because Ratana acts so much like one. He dislikes the sun, but light itself is fine. He has little pacience for the immature and the noisy. He finds himself strangly attracted to weak people. Maybe because he feels they may be part of his kingdom soon.
Bio: The king of the underworld and afterlife, Thanos loves to have so many subjects. However, he can't stand the fact that Ratana's powers dip into his, and actually steal some of it away in that she can take any soul from his kingdom and doom them to walk the earth. It is even more frustrating to him that she does this on request of just about anyone without counciling him at all. He is at the end of his rope. The dead aren't meant to walk the earth!
Job: god of the dead and ruler of the afterlife
Other: He's allergic to cats.

Gaia Name: Gemmetra
Character Name: Milo
Age: immortal, but looks 20
Race: god
Appearence: Milo has messy light brown hair tied back by a bandanna. He frequently has a goofy-looking grin on his face, and has fair skin with dark brown eyes. He is very small in stature, and likes to wear green more than any other color. Must have something to do with goblins. He always has a bag of vanishing powder somewhere on his person, and wears a single blue earring in his left ear.
Personality: Milo is lighthearted and generally friendly, though he can be annoying most of the time. He loves to play games and tricks with others. Particularly humans. He has a soft spot for music and anything too cute to play a practical joke on. The other immortals don't really like him, but he doesn't care. However, he tends to be a bit of a coward and as such a push-over.
Bio: Milo is the god of mischief, and no one is more deserving of the title. However, he has become more lethargic in recent years, though no one knows exactly why. It is suspected it has something to do with Thanos threatening him with something or other and making the poor boy his minion as a result. Milo's only desire is to have freedom again. But no matter how hard he tries, he can never pass up the opportunity to cause trouble.
Job: god of mischief
Other: His favorite being is the goblin, and he's always telling them new ways to wreak havoc on their human neighbors.

Mirana cocked her head slowly as she watched the sun setting far away on the horizon. The fact that the sun never tired of this daily cycle had always fascinated her somehow. She stood alone on the balcony of the temple's main building. A ghostly bird, part of Ratana's collection, landed on the railing and stared at her quizzically before fluttering elsewhere.

It was always so peaceful here. But then again, weren't most graveyards. Though this could hardly be put in the same catagory as those lowly things. It was almost laughable how similar and yet vastly differant this place was from your common cememtary.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 06, 2008 5:01 pm

Darren is walking around the complex when he passes a window, "looks like the sun is setting". He scratches his head "man this place is so boring" Darren continues to walk down the corridor looking for something to do. Darn it ever sense I ended up here all I have done is walk back and forth and get ignored this place needs more action. He comes to a fork in the hallway "cant complain to much got to be a great hero back home". Darren sits in the window and looks out to the sky and watches as the sun sets.

"If you want something to happen, then you have to see to it yourself," came a childish voice from nowhere that could be seen. Then a small cat materialized by Darren on the windowsile and seemed to smile at him.

"Hey I know!" Ratana mused, jumping to the floor, "Follow me. There's a special room you might like! You can see the outside world from there," she chimed, scampering down the hall.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 07, 2008 3:23 am

What in the world, I must be crazy now. Darren gets up anyways "might as well see where the cats going". He starts to follow it down the hall and felt kind of dumb. I am following a talking cat great, but I think I have seen this cat before but from where? Although it may be worth it if there really is this room it specks of.

"In here!" Ratana chimed proudly. The door's handle moved on its own, and she leapt inside and onto the edge of a large stone table with wooden stools placed haphazardly around it. The table's surface was black, and almost like glass. The cat goddess turned to Darren and purred.

"This is the Seer's room. All us immortal types have one. Just tell the table what you want to see," she then proceeded to show him exactly what she meant, "Show me the ocean."

An image of the deep blue ocean came into view, replacing the table's black surface. It was almost like looking out a window. There were a few sea birds, and even a small fishing boat far off near the horizon.

"Now you try," Ratana nodded, giving him that feline grin of hers.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 07, 2008 3:32 pm

Darren's voice almost gets caught in his throat by the power of just a table. He walks up to it "what did you call this a seer's room and this table can actually show me anything". What should I do, I guess home should be good "show me the town of Demix". The image slowly takes its form on the table.

"I want you here before dawn tomorrow, Jack!" bellowed the stout man from his place in the doorway. "If you're late, pest, don't bother showing up at all."
Jack didn't turn around. It didn't matter to his boss that he had never been late in the five years that he had worked there. His job was to stay out of site as much as possible and to work diligently without comment. He made sure to be on time at all times, going to work at the large tavern whenever asked, or ordered, rather.

"And I want you out of sight. Some nobles traveling from a few towns away have sent word that they will be staying at MY inn for quite some time, and I don't want you scaring any of them of," the boss finished.

Jack had paused at the tavern's wooden fence to listen to the last of his orders. He clenched his fists as the boss finished and pushed roughly past the gate. So he had to take care of nobles now. Most of them treated him as badly as his boss did. The tavern was located right next to an inn and he was often sent over to work there, so he was well accustomed to the atmosphere when travelers- especially rich ones- arrived. His boss would be extra unpleasantly for a while.

Pausing in the stone street, Jack took a moment to look at the sky. The moon shone brightly up above, illuminating everything with a bright silver light. It was already late and he knew that he would have to get up early, but he couldn't help but feel restless. After a moment's hesitation he walked past his house, continuing on down the road for quite a while until he reached a dirt path that led into a dense forest. Jack turned down it, his eyes downcast thoughtfully.

Just as the dark forest ended a huge, almost glowing temple rose up to greet him. His bad mood instantly vanished at the sight of the structure and its eloquent grounds. He passed right by the front door and headed straight to the gardens. Normally he paid a visit to the interior, but tonight he felt like being alone under the sky. Jack stepped into the garden, breathing in the fresh air happily.

He looked around, quickly spotting a large tree blossoming with aromatic flowers. He sat bellow it, leaning his sore back against the smooth bark. He felt his tense body began to relax. Jack wasn't sure why, but this place always made him feel better, and he had never once felt alone. He had heard rumors of ghosts living here and he wholly believed in them, but he had never had the honor of actually spotting one. He peered up through the green branches for a moment to get another glimpse of the moon before gazing out past the grounds to where the graveyard was. Somewhere in the heart of it his father and brother rested. He wondered if they were spirits here, or if they had passed on to whatever place it was that your soul went to when you died.

Jack's hair fell in his face as he dropped his head. He stared thoughtful at the grass once more, his fingers idly twirling it and brushing through it like it was the earth's hair. He closed his eyes as his rough hands made contact with the wet dirt beneath, letting it cool him. He would leave soon, he told himself, knowing full well that he would need rest if he wanted to be able to work well with the snobby nobles and his pushy boss the following morning.
