The dreaded writers block. How do get over it? and more importantly why does it happen?

I tend to get writer's block when I have too much time to write. With so much time, staring at a piece of paper or a computer screen, I can't come up with anything, or set up a scene properly.
So how do I get over it? The only way I can get by is when I have something more important I should be doing. If I have an assignment due the next day, or actual work in class, I can write almost nonstop. blaugh It's kind of annoying, actually, but it makes it easy to start up again.
Although it makes it difficult to finish my work... sweatdrop

I have a friend that I talk my stories through. He's a bit older than I am (I'm 23), so he has a bit more life experiance than I do, and he can ask me the right questions to get me motivated and thinking again.
I suggest finding someone who you can discuss your stories with. Someone you trust and who's judgment you can take and better yourself from.
