A flicker of movement at the edge of the rabbit warren. Mudclaw tensed. His patrol was off hunting a distance away, leaving the brown warrior to his prey.
Disgusting. Just look at the moors, pristine and intact. Where was the destruction? Had the portents come true? Were they running for their lives from some unknown enemy? No! The medicine cats had startled at shadows and their cowardly leaders took flight, leaving their territory wide open for ShadowClan and RiverClan to tread all over. ThunderClan wouldn't. They were too soft.
When the rabbit finally darted from hiding he was after it like a shot. He ripped into it with claws and teeth before it even cleared a foxlength; his anger made him destroy it far further than he meant to, but the loss of prey was worth it. The kits could eat it, anyways, since they needed small bites.
"Come on, Mudclaw!" He looked up to see the patrol standing among a circle of prey. He nodded briefly and joined them with his own catch.
Later, when he was free to think, Mudclaw sat at the edge of the camp hollow with his tail curled around his paws, wind ruffling his thick fur. The whistling of the wind drowned out the camp noises below, so he was able to concentrate, and what he found in his thoughts was disturbing. He didn't trust their leaders any more. Maybe the risk was forgivable, if the leaders had fled to a safe distance then returned to assess the damage, but it took a ThunderClan patrol to convince them to come back. And now Peachkit was dead. If they'd returned sooner it wouldn't have happened...
Mudclaw narrowed his eyes. Something had to be done. While life went on below, the lone warrior angered, and wondered, and planned...{If you have a warrior who may be interested in helping him, please post here! And only those who would help, please. There'll be plenty of time for objections in the future X3}

Sunflare nibble on her prey, sitting in the middle of the camp. Her life had been empty, ever since Peachkit died... Suddenly she unsheathed her claws and dug them into the dirt, leaving long furrows behind. In a fit of frustration, she buried the furrows and raked the dirt again and again until the dirt was as loose as sand. Sunflare returned to her prey with a flick of her tail, her eyes swirling with depression, anger, and perhaps a touch of insanity. Darkstorm passed by Sunflare on her way to get something to eat. She felt sorry for the former mother. She had heard the sad news when the rest of Windclan came back. If only they had stayed! Nothing bad had happened here, but the leaders panicked and fled, like rabbits being chased by cats. Grabbing a piece of a torn-up rabbit, she devoured it and darted away. She needed to hunt.

Ashpelt walked into the Windclan camp with a rabbit hanging out of her mouth. She almost dropped the fresh-kill when Darkstorm flew by her. What's her problem? she wondered. The gray cat stepped up to the fresh-kill pile and let the rabbit fall onto it. She was about to go back out when she spotted Sunflare nearby. She seemed fine, but the furrows on the ground betrayed her. Ashpelt flicked her tail angerly and walked toward the entrance to camp. Sunflare had lost her only kit, Peachkit, in the cave. She probabaly died because of the strange enviroment! She might not have died if she was here! she thought.

Thoughts swirled round and round in Mudclaw's head like the howling wind out on the moors. Finally he had to admit they were going nowhere. What use was this anger with only one set of claws to use? He loosed a frustrated snarl, then spun on his heel and bounded down into the camp, too annoyed to sit and think any longer.
'Just look at Sunflare. Not only did we lose a kit, but she is useless as a warrior like this. Then again, who needs warriors - all we do is run away!'
Maybe he'd just been out, but a fierce need to leave the false security of camp made Mudclaw hurry to catch up to Ashpelt and Darkstorm. "Ashpelt! Darkstorm! If you've nothing better to do, the fresh-kill pile is getting low." That wasn't really true - after all, Ashpelt had just dropped off a rabbit - but he wanted to get out of camp with these two especially. They seemed sympathetic towards Sunflare. That might be useful. If not, a bout of hunting never went amiss.

Darkstorm reappeared at the edge of the camp to answer Mudclaw's call. "I'm already hunting!" She snapped, her simmering frustration making her irritable. She just lost a foolish but alert young rabbit that bolted the moment her paws left the ground, and she had crashed loudly, warning other small creatures that there was a hunter looking for them. Disappearing again, she wandered farther from the camp, looking for prey.

((>D *evil laugh insert here*)) Crowfeather had only just then slpped out of the warriors den. Her flicked his ears and looked over at hearing mudclaw's call for others. He narrowed his eyes before slipping along the gorse camp border and sitting beside him. "What seems to be the matter Mudclaw?" Crowfeather questioned his former mentor.

Berrykit peered outside of the nursery curiously, somewhat alarmed at the shouting and such that was going on outside. She was disappointed to not see anything like fighting going on, just Mudclaw bossing around other cats.
But he wasn't a deputy! Was he really suppose to do that? She waddled up to the dark brown tom and sat next to him. Maybe unlike the leaders and true deputies, he'll let her hunt!
"Mudclaw? Can I hunt with the other warriors? Please? I can hunt really well! I almost caught a rabbit yesterday!"
If pouncing and landing a fox tail away from the rabbit before it fled counted as almost.

"Then you can stand to hunt in a group, can't you?" he snapped back. His retort fell on deaf ears; Darkstorm was already gone. Mudclaw seemed beside himself with tension. He flinched as Crowfeather slipped out of nowhere. "What do you think? Does it look like something's wrong?" he replied coldly, tail still twitching from the exchange with Darkstorm.
'Crowfeather's not an enemy.' a reasonable voice spoke in the back of his head. Crowfeather, far from being an enemy, was a warrior to be trusted.
Mudclaw huffed out deeply through his nose, trying to calm down. "Everything is wrong." the brown warrior said simply. "Our Clan is sick, but it looks healthy on the outside - and most of us are fooled by it. But those who aren't know us to be more fragile than kits."
As if the mention of kits drew one closer, he suddenly smelled the warm scent of kit. A round gray kitten came bumbling over from the direction of the nursery, and for a moment he wondered where she was headed - but that became clear very quickly.
"No, Berrykit. You know the rules." His brown eyes were quietly amused at her bold request. Wasn't this the kit that kept sneaking out of the nursery? She certaintly looked the type.

Sunflare was close enough to hear Berrykit's question, and snapped out of her daze. "Berrykit!" She scolded as she turned away from her food and trotted over, ignoring Mudclaw and Crowfeather. "What are you doing out here? You should go back to the nursery." Nudging Berrykit gently in the direction of the nursery, she suddenly paused when she thought of something. "Berrykit, how did you almost catch a rabbit? Have you been out of camp?" Her voice took on a sharper tone, but not too harsh to scare the kit.
