Katya and Serafine were out for a walk. Darry had told them both - cordially, of course - that their combined noisemaking was causing a headache like a train spike being driven into his eye socket, and would they please take it outside.
"Loud?" Serafine yipped to Katya, looking anxious. "Din't mean be loud."
"Quitcher bellyachin'," Katya snapped at the Jivvin mildly. "He jus' a sissy. We weren't bein' THAT loud."
"Broke th' vase," Serafine countered reasonably. "Jumped on th' couch 'til it made creaky-creak noises."
"Like I say. Sissy."
Shushing the Jivvin before she could raise any more theoretical points, Katya made a beeline towards the road and without looking either way began to cross the street. A car screeched to a halt inches from her, and Katya glibly ignored the furious yelling of the driver. Serafine shook her head and trailed after, yipping at the driver apologetically.

"Momma, momma, did you see that?" Vivian said, tugging on Raechyl's sleeve as they walked down the sidewalk. "They okay?" Further down the street, a car had screeched to a halt in order to stop from hitting the the two figures crossing in front of it.
"I think so, they're still walking," Raechyl replied. "Let's go make sure they're alright, okay?" she asked and began leading her daughter down the street.

Katya dusted herself off unconcernedly, ignoring Serafine's scandalized yipping.
"Aw, quit it," she said when Serafine nipped reproachfully at her wings. "We's still 'live, ain't we?"
Serafine grumbled and growled in distress, massive ears flat against her skull.
"Katty, gonna get in t'ouble," she said. Katya snorted.

"Hey, you two okay?" Vivian asked, running up behind her mother, who had just reached Kayta and Serafine. "Still live? No hurt?" Her eyes were searching the two, and she was obviously worried.
"They look alright, Viv," Raechyl said reassuringly, and then turned to the Sin'aeis and Jivvin. "You are alright, right? You should be more careful when you're crossing the street."

Katya gave Vivian a rude look that switched to Raechyl.
"What d'you care?" she snapped. "I can take care'a m'self fine. Go 'way."
Serafine whined like as spanked puppy, ears drooping.
"Katty..."
"Aw, shu' up Sera."

"Well, maybe you can, but how was I to know that? I just saw a girl almost get hit by a car, so I was worried," Raechyl said, slightly annoyed and slightly amused by this...Katty? Yep, that was it.
"Where you going?" Vivian asked asked the girl who had just glared at her. What did I do? she thought. Maybe if I'm really nice, she'll like me, and be nice to me too.
