"Don't despair, Daddums!" Falx called out, as he trotted out the door of the family home. "I shall return to you much improved."
And with that, he was off! Over the lawn and through the woods and up the mountain he'd go!
Falx had been alive for a whole entire week, and had therefore decided that it was about time to explore the world beyond his father's coat-tails. It was not that they made for a poor view. Black was both classy and classic, and the shade flattered his family members quite well. But Falx had ambitions to be a a kitsu-about-town, a gentleman of style and taste, un grand flaneur in the classical sense, and he was not going to develop any sense of discrimination if he spent all his days staring at Mummy's knives and making up stories for Vexpi.
His first mission would be to find a butterfly. Mixali had told him about butterflies, and though Falx was skeptical about their being made of hand-churned butter, he felt confident that they must be delightful.
Falx caught sight of something whizzing through the air and pounced, only to tumble back on his paws, missing his target entirely. No matter. It was only a dull dead leaf.

The little kit had been cooped up for many days, studying dilligently to make up for the unfortunate thing that had happened to her. That was, being a Squib.
Also, she didn't really want Ayako to be mad; it was mostly because she and Viree had ran to Grandpa Remus's house with the idea of running away so she wouldn't know about Axis's condition. Still, Axis rather felt guilty. It was her fault this happened anyway.
However, after many prods from Xanul that she should go out and explore and have some adventures, she finally agreed, so that he would stop nagging at her. And well, daddy wasn't exactly in his best moods, after learning he was about to be a grandfather!
So, seated on a rock under the shade of a tree, Axis started to practise her powers. Squeezing her eyes shut, she focused on a destination, only opening her eyes to see a tiny portal appear in front of her. A grin of delight spread over her face before it was replaced by confusion, she had suddenly become very tired, and the portal closed shut. What was wrong?

Falx was slightly startled to see a kitsu his age suddenly appear in the meadow. He had been loitering beside a delightful waterfall scene, enjoying the way that dappled sunlight reflected off of the melting snow. Now a small figure cast her shadow across his picturesque landscape.
Ah! But where were his manners? Falx had been searching, had he not? And seeing someone appear out of a portal was not that unusual. His parents made a regular habit of such travel.
"Hallo there, butterfly." He trotted over to investigate the newcomer, greeting her with a wink and what he fancied was a jaunty smile. "Why so glum? It's a gorgeous day, isn't it?"
The young male showed up like an ink stain against the dull whites and browns of the mountain landscape. His salmon-pink fur and vivid blue-blonde tails were hardly well-suited to camouflage.
"You really shouldn't look so vexed. It doesn't suit your pretty face."

Ah yes, Axis loved that waterfall. It was where she had much fun with Xanul and her new friend Dragoon. It wasn't surprising that she had chosen to go near there, of all places in the mountain.
Her head jerked up to stare at the other kit, eyes traveling to his black gloves. Xerviree had them too, except that they were different! And those colors! Xanul was blue and yellowish too, though they were of different shades. Was she somehow related to this kitsusagi? "Um..." She blinked at his greeting, looking somewhat surprised. "It is...I guess." Though what bothered her was that the portal seemed to have...cut some of her energy. She wasn't exactly tired, but it was rather weird. Xanul had said nothing about it, and she was sure Xexilia would have complained about it if it happened while she was practicing.
Pretty? She blinked, a little confused for a moment. Yes, Ayako had said all her kids were beautiful...but that was because she was their mother. A small blush crept on her face. "Thank you." She murmured, tilting her head to stare at Falx. "You wear black too?"

Ah, what an intriguing look. So flustered and cute. Had Falx done that? He wanted to do it again! Another kit was infinitely more fun to toy with than silly old plants.
"Well of course I wear black," Falx brought a paw to his chest. Long, flowing sleeves were tied to the tops of his arms by tight cord, while soft leather gloves clung tightly to his paws. "Whatever else should I wear? Black is the most basic and utilitarian of shades, but it suits most any tone of fur, don't you think?"
The kit brushed some of his hair back, then winked. His locks were nearly as shaggy as his father's, though he did not wear his nearly as long. Lyxre was the prettyboy of the brood he'd been born into.
"Aside from that, it's a family tradition. I'm Falx, son of Marluxia and Larxene- full-blooded descended of Organization XIII."
Mummy and Daddums didn't speak often about their old Organization days, unless they were grumbling complaints about former colleagues, but Falx took pride in his heritage nonetheless. Why shouldn't he? He was an impossible creature, a boy born without a heart. That kind of delightful imagery shouldn't go to waste. Falx credited his lack of emotions for the wonderful lightness of being that came from being free of silly emotions.
"From the way you appeared, I suspect you've heard of them."

The kit nodded somberly, wagging her tails in agreement. "Black is awesome!" She then paused, tilting her head to stare further at the gloves. "Viree has black gloves too, but yours are longer." She commented softly, mostly to herself.
Well, Axis didn't exactly have hair, though her father, Xanul, Viree and Nyx did. She did like her red bangs though; Ayako had said she had taken after her grandmother Nari, in a very fond voice.
Marluxia? Larxene? The kit's eyes widened, turning to lay on her back and peering at the kit that now seemed to be upside down. Those two names seemed familiar... It all clicked when he said Organization XIII. She gave a little squeak. Hadn't Xanny said Larxene was kinda mean?
...Still it didn't mean Falx was right?
"Of..course I do." Axis said, still staring at him goggle-eyed. "My daddy is Saix...the Luna Diviner, I believe. I'm Axis."

Viree? Who was Viree? Oh no no no, that wouldn't do at all. If anyone was to go around wearing black gloves then Falx ought to be the greatest and most ideal exemplar of the trend.
Hm. Maybe this 'Viree' was merely imitating him? Yes, that must be it! Falx's tails curled in happiness. Only a week old and he already had a follower. Soon all the the Mountain and the Realm would know his name.
"Lu~na Di~viner," Falx tested out the syllables of the name, sounding them out as best he could with his blunt little muzzle. "Mummy is the Savage Nymph and Daddums is the Graceful Assassin. What will my name be, do you think?"
Falx bounced in place. Did Axis have her title already? Oooh, he was jealous!!! Unless- wait, no he wasn't. Axis wasn't a true Nobody. Why would she have a title?
"It shall have to be something everyone will remember for ages and ages until they're dead!"
The kit laughed.
"My my, butterfly, are those your bangs falling in your face? That won't do. I can't see your eyes shine or your cheeks turn color. Let me help."
Falx reached forward to brush the hair out of Axis' eyes, only to strike her with a sharp jolt of static electricity. He quickly hopped back and glanced about sheepishly.
"Er- I didn't mean to do that."

Well well, if only Falx knew he had been wrong. Xerviree had hatched out of his egg much earlier than the Nobody kit had, and therefore, did not imitate him.
"I unno?" She tilted her head, eyes flicking up to stare up at the branches of the tree for a moment. "Perhaps it depends on what you do?"
The kit hesitated for a moment as Falx reached out his paw, but didn't jerk away...only doing so and giving a yelp of surprise as he shocked her. She stared at him, almost hurt and confused. Was he being mean, like what Xanny said? She wasn't...angry at him though. Whatever that was.
It was funny she had never felt anger, when Xanul had explained to her when she was confused about feelings. It was something that boiled up inside and made someone feel like erupting, but Axis had never felt that. Should that be good?
She scrambled up from her position, only to shift herself backwards in case she would get shocked again. "What happened?"

Falx stared at his offending limb. What had just happened? One moment he'd been minding his own business, enjoying the noon-day sun and the feel of supple leather against the pads of his paw. The next he'd felt an eldritch rush of power course through his flesh, struggling to escape the confines of his body.
"I... don't know."
Falx wrinkled his muzzle. He smelled something funny. Not burnt, or particularly unpleasant, but like sharp fresh air. Had he been older, he might have recognized the scent of ozone.
"I don't know what I do."
The kit padded over to the pool beneath the waterfall to take a look at himself. Everything still looked to be in place! Same salmon-pink fur, same yellow-blue hair, same winsome smile. So what had changed?
He reached out to touch his reflection, and was knocked back - zap-crack! - as soon as he came in contact with the water.

"That's weird..." Axis murmured, wrinkling her nose slightly. She remembered something vaguely of what she had heard about the Organization, but just couldn't put her paw on it for a moment. "Well, momma says powers may develop when you grow older." That was how Xanny's had worked out.
She watched as he padded towards the waterfall, uttering a small shriek as he was suddenly thrown backwards. Leaping down from the rock, she walked over to where he was, peering down at him. "Are you okay?"
It was then when it clicked.
Water...had to do with Demyx. She remembered Xanul had told her that when they had played her with Dragoon. And then her big brother had mentioned...Larxene... "Your momma has electricity powers, doesn't she?"

Falx had been flung onto his back, and it took him a few moments to roll back onto his paws before he could answer Axis. He didn't like being tossed around like that! A gentleman shouldn't let his body get out of his own control. Daddums would never allow such a thing to happen.
"I- I suppose she does." Falx wrinkled his nose. "I haven't seen her use- well. It's snot as though she uses them on us. Oh, she bats us about and ignores us plenty, but that's just her being funny."
He had to smile to himself.
"Mummy's awfully cute when she's trying to be evil. That's how I know she loves us very much!"
Energy pricked at his skin. Every hair on his body felt as though it were standing at attention, and his forepaws were tender and oddly sensitive. Was this why Mummy had dressed him like up? He could feel every bit of the gravel below him. Without gloves it might just have been painful.
Falx shook out his coat.
"Do you have powers, butterfly?"

"I see." The kit said simply. She knew how that felt like; Saix did pretty much ignore his kids, but she didn't really mind it much. She knew her daddy was grumpy like that.
"Daddy's cute when he's grumpy." She chipped in, flopping down beside him carefully.
Pale ears flicked curiously as she turned her golden gaze on him. "Well..." She didn't have magic like the rest of her siblings but. "I've been practicing that portal power you saw just now."

A ear flicked at his question. "Well...yeah, I did." She had intended to come to the waterfall; it was so beautiful! And was where she had made a friend outside of her family.
"But it's still weird though." She murmured, setting her chin on top of her paws, which were folded atop each other. There was something about her portal that bothered her, besides her lack of energy after it.

"Mummy told me about your family. You're a half. Why wouldn't it be weird for you compared to your darling Pater?"
Falx lazily batted a paw in the air, hunting invisible motes of dust.
"Don't take it the wrong way, butterfly." He winked. "Facts are facts."
