Now for the first bit of news.

As said, I do interviews here and there of our fellow culties. Make sure to congratulate them for being on TV! Heh. heh.

Anyway, down to business. With Brawl being just around the corner, there's excitement abuzz. I decided to ask around for thoughts of this soon-to-be joyous occasion. My first iterview is with the founding father of the N Cut, the esteemed Meta_Fish.

"Ah, what a fine day this is. Just a few more days to go before Brawl is released! Tell me, how do you feel about what could be the Wii's largest selling game?"

Meta_Fish

How do I feel about Brawl? I'm pumped. I've been following every piece of news about this game ever since the first trailer, at E3 '06, where Meta Knight and Snake were shown. I've always been a huge Super Smash Brothers fan. My friends and I have always played the games, and we've always battled for superiority, but somehow, I manage to stay on top. xd
Online play was a must for this entry. I remember the day when I was worried it wouldn't be implemented, because it would be too laggy. Now it seems blasphemy to even think that it may have not been in there!
I've seen all the characters, and I've seen all the stages. I've listened to a good portion of the music, read all about the items, watched dozens upon dozens of videos, and it still isn't enough. It's only a few days away, but when I think about it, it just seems so far. We've all been waiting for this game a really long time, and the two delays were really a pain to us, after we were so excited, but finally, it's coming. Brawl is just around the corner, and I can hardly wait.

"Mmm... I see, I see. I hear talk around the forums that people will be 'maining' certian characters. That is to say, they will specialize in fighting with a character of their choice. Tell me, who might you be maining?"

Meta_Fish

About maining someone... I don't know. Honestly, I find it kind of stupid to pick someone out to "main" before you've even played the game. I may be a huge fan of Meta Knight, but if I don't like his playstyle, then I probably won't play as him too much. There are people out there that will keep playing with whatever character, no matter what, but that's just not my style. I don't find myself thinking I'll ever play as Pit (hatehimhatehimhatehim) either, though, so.. -shrugs-

When I look at the roster, there are some that do look very interesting, though. I'm a Mario player from Melee, and most of the original title, so I'll be trying him out, and probably using him for the tourney at GameStop, since I know him well. The friend that I play with the most is a Samus player, so Mario's cape comes in handy.
My second is probably Donkey Kong. He's big and slow, and his shield kinda sucks, but I just love the big ape. He's really a force to be reckoned with, especially if you get a well placed Donkey Punch in. I liked the idea of his Final Smash, but it just seems to kind of suck. Maybe the videos I've seen just didn't do the button timing, but it's not very flashy, either. Then again, I saw one video, where it dealt three Foxes a huge number of percent, because they couldn't escape it.
But DK is probably tied with the Ice Climbers. I'm not good at desyncing them, and I don't know multiple grabs or anything (I really hate it when people do that, anyway. It just seems cheap.), and I lose Nana, a lot, but I like their playstyle. I just hope Nana's AI is fixed a little bit for Brawl. She wanders off a lot, only does jabs, and never recovers! I'd love to use their recovery once in a while to get back onto the stage. Their Final Smash is pretty freaking amazing, too. One of my favorites.
My other character in Melee is Captain Falcon. His punch seems faster in Brawl, and you can turn it around, so that's good. His Final Smash is also freaking awesome.

As for newcomers, there are a ton I'm looking forward to playing.
First of all, Olimar. I always loved Pikmin, and I really like the gimmick of plucking the Pikmin out to use for attacks. It's just such a cool idea. Not to mention, his Final Smash is ridiculously awesome.
Then there's Pokemon Trainer. I loved the RBY Pokemon games, and again, I love his gimmick. He's like Shiek and Zelda, where you can change, but for once, you're forced to change (as I hear it. The Pokemon get tired, and then you have to swap out). Squirtle looks good for fighting big slow characters, Ivysaur's bullet seed seems to be great for racking up damage, and Charizard seems like the finisher. He's the ultimate in balance.
Then there's Wario. I love his fart build up, and how if you use it quickly after you've last used it, it gives a "little poot", but if you hold it in, it can be explosive. His bite is neat, and I like his gimmicky bike, which has to be destroyed before you can use it again. He seems like a pretty unique character, too. He's fat, but kind of quick on his feet. It'll be interesting to find out his balancing.
I've always loved the Kirby games, and King Dedede is one of my favorite villains. Finally, we get someone huge and slow that has a weapon to swing around. Dedede will be a good Brawler, I can already feel it. He can suck you in if you get to close, and keep you at bay with his huge mallet. His Final Smash also seems pretty useful.
I may use Sonic, too. I'm not sure I could handle the speed, though. I never really like Fox, because you're just running around all the time.

Then of course, there's Meta Knight. I've always loved Meta Knight, and this game seems to just prove how awesome he really is. From the cyclone attack which owned you in Superstar, to his bat wings, dimensional cape and shuttle loop, he just seems to be a really fresh swordfighter. His recovery is also ridiculous. I just wish his Final Smash was flashier, or different. I don't know how well I could land it!

Ah.. yes. I see. Very Good! Well thank you for your time, my friend. I do hope to play against you one of these days.

Yes, folks... strong words... from a strong leader. I salute you.

Thank you for reading, fellow Culties, and remember, ask not for whom the player pwns... he pwns for thee.

Now then, we come to the Spotlight, where we feature a particular game.

Today's featured game is...

Kirby Superstar!

This, I must say is a rather unique game in the Kirby Series. Instead of one linear storyline, it features several game modes, including a race against King Dedede, and a full-blown treasure hunt.

Now, we all know that Kirby's trademark is his inhale ability. Simple, yes. Useful, HELL yes. There is a plethora of abilities available to Kirby, well, given if you find the enemies that carry them. For most like the docile Waddle Dee and the Airborne Bronto Burt, you'll get nothing. but inhale a Sir Kibble for example... you get the Cutter ability!

A good step-up from the previous Kirby games is that each ability comes with a movelist; in contrast to simply throwing a cutter, Kirby can do a 1-2-3 combo when up close to the enemy. And he gets an adorable blade-tipped cap to boot! In fact, all the abilities are symbolized by different hats, with the exception of one-timer ablilties, like Cook, and Crash.

Bearing all these abilities is one thing, but what makes it even better is the helper system. With a press of a button, Kirby can forfeit his current ability to call forth a helper to aid him in the adventure! They will automatically attack an enemy nearby, using the same movelist as when Kirby has the ability.

They are also a distinct color from their enemy counterparts.

On top of this, a second player can join in AS the helper! Oh yes! Teaming up with a friend in this game is a definite plus! They'll be less random than the CPU-controlled helper.

Be mindful of the helper though. They bear a meter, just like Kirby, but they can pick up life-restoring food too. On top of that, touch Kriby and the helper together to share the food. This is good especially when you nab a Maxim Tomato, which heals all damage. But you must touch in a second or two, or else nothing will happen.

The Game Modes.

As I said, there are several game modes instead of just one linear path. This offers good fun as well as replay value.

Spring Breeze- Dedede's gone and yoinked all the food in Dreamland, and it's up to Kirby to reclaim it. This mode seems like a fresher version of Kirby's Dreamland for the Game Boy, seeing as with the exception of the Paint Roller boss, all the other bosses are still there, like Whispy Woods (Who's been in EVERY Kirby game to date), and Kracko, Not to mention Lolo and Lala, who cameoed from The Adventure of Lolo, another HAL Laboratory game, for the NES (out for the VC).

Dynablade- The fearsome bird which this game was named after has been flying around razing crops here and there, and Kirby must put a stop to it! Unlike the other games, this one features a map with areas you navigate to. There are also two secret areas. I highly recommend making good use of certain abilities to get to them!

The Great Cave Offensive- Undoubtedly THE longet of the set, You must search for treasures within this extensive maze. There are savepoints within to keep track f your progress. Some treasures are sweet little cameos, like the Screw Attack ball, Koopa Shell, even the Triforce! Wow!

Revenge of Meta Knight- Before Meta Knight made his grand debut in Brawl, he tried to take over Dreamland with his iconic battleship, the Halberd.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
...But Kirby threw a wrench in those plans, for sure! Can you do this? You'd probably say you could do it with ease... BUT! there is a time limit in each stage, and you'll get pwned should it reach zero...

Milky Way Wishes- 0_o The Sun and the Moon are fighting?!? OMGWTFBBQ! Believe it. And Kirby hopes that with the help of Nova, he can resolve the dispute. What makes this last game mode unique is that you can swallow, but you CANNOT copy. Instead, you must look for the Deluxe Ability Pedestals to gain your powers. The sweet part is that once you get the power, you can use it at your disposal FOREVER and WHENEVER YOU WANT. Isn't that what we want in all the Kirby games? But... that'd make it too easy...

The Arena- This is a survival mode, where you must try and plow through the bosses, and with limited recovery tomatos (five max) Can you step up to the challenge? Remember, YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE.

Megaton Punch- Time the targets right and hone your accuracy to win! The funny part is that you are literally rending Popstar in two with your mighty punches. Be glad this ain't Earth... and real! BTW, look at the crowd to see some special spectators! Mushrooms, anyone?

Samurai Kirby- It's like high noon in the Oedo province. the second you see !! , press as quickly as possible to win!

Gourmet Race- Race against Dedede to the finish line! Use any abilities you can find to get ahead, but don't forget to snarf down as much food as possible on the way!

In Conclusion...

All in all, this has been one of the best Kirby games around. It's only fair that this gem of a game makes it to the VC someday. For my rating, I can only give this...

3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding 3nodding
10 out of 10! You can't possibly expect any less!

As a ROM, as a cartridge, it doesn't matter, just PLAY THIS GAME.
