I have a biology questionnn. D':

My friend and I did an experiment in biology and we had to grow plants. We could only change one thing in the experiment and everything had to be the same. So we put small pieces of gravel in three of the six cups, and they sprouted first.

Now I have to think of reasons WHY they sprouted first.

Any ideas? It's due tomorrow so hurryyyy. D':

Ummm...maybe because the roots had a place to anchor easier and it was easier for them to grow? I don't really know, so don't take that unless you're in desperate need of an answer. Just an idea...I can go ask my mom real quick if you'd like.

Minerals in the rocks possibly fed the seeds a bit more?
*dunno*

It could've just been a coincidence...you could say that you found no reason for the plants to sprout first. But I think that probably wouldn't count as an answer...>.>

Erm... maybe the gravel can help soak up excess water? Or... the gravel helps the roots be more concentrated? Or the gravel just made it seem more like a natural environment?

Becuase the rocks were magical? LOL I don't know. Maybe there was something nutritious on the rock that helped the plant grow faster.

Oooh, how about, the gravel stops the roots of the plants from coming into contact with the bottom of the pot? Or, gravel could help protect the plants from weeds and bugs by stopping them from burrowing into soil... Erm I remember hearing it also helps by preventing soil from getting into the holes of your pot and preventing air/moisture from getting in?
