OK ... so I'm a clarinet player. Well the problem with that is that I hate clarinet. At least the soprano, that is. When I was in 7th grade I switched to bass clarinet and then 8th grade I switched to Contra Alto ... so I've been playing low reeds much much longer than I have been playing the soprano. In all honesty, I'm a lot better on Contra anyway. I made all-state on it ... when I know for certain that I wouldn't have been able to make it on the clarinet, just because I'm just not that great at it. It's strange how different the two are ... they're both clarinets yet one is just so much better. I think my point here is that I'm kind of mad because I've been stuck back on Clarinet this year. It's my first year of College and I can understand marching season, we're not allowed to march low reeds, not even Bari, but I just hate the clarinet for concert season! I used my graduation money to buy my OWN contra ... mine ... not a schools, and Its sitting in my basement rotting right now because I have no use for it. It makes me sad. sad

I prefer baritone/euphonium to trumpet, but I am in three bands on trumpet right now, with no chance to play the low brass anymore since pep band ended. My parents don't understand that I'm better on low brass, even though my band directors say it.
I suggest practicing on the intrument you prefer anyway. Chances are you'll have a use for it. I'm shocked that a college would have you playing the soprano in concert season; bass clarinetists are always in high demand. O.o
