So, I just watched the episode "Reset" last night and happened to notice a striking similarity with "Scold's Bride", a chapter of Godchild, a manga I read. In Reset, the insects were used to cure incurable diseases, while in Godchild, they were used as a beauty medicine.
Excerpt from Wikipedia on "Reset": While inside the Pharm, Martha discovers that the facility is responsible for the drug "Reset", which is what cured the previously incurable diseases. But the problem with Reset is that it works by releasing alien parasites, called Mayflies, into the human bloodstream - the Mayfly larvae proceed to "reset" the human body, eliminating even incurable diseases such as HIV. The downside to the drug is that the Mayfly larvae eventually hatch and eat the person from the inside
Quotes From "Scold's Bride": "The substances in this medicine are countless parasitic eggs. A species as yet unknown to the scientific community."
"After entering the body, the eggs hatch and proceed to absorb the host's nutrients in order to grow. The paling effect on the skin and the weight loss is so severe that it forces the body to secrete a hormone that makes people look more attractive, but in a month they end their incubation period and climb up inside the host's body where they proceed to destroy the facial tissue. Some collect behind the eyeballs and burst forth from the tissue. That's why we were collecting the eyes."
In case you want to know, I believe "Scold's Bride" was written before "Reset".

They do seem similar. Perhaps not even Torchwood is above modifying existing ideas. Its the way the entertainment industry works, alas.
Love your sig, by the way.

I suppose nothing is completely original anymore.

Meh, who knows. Who cares really? If it turns out being a decent episode I couldn't really give two shits. The only similarities that I see are the Parasites and the break down of the body. Most Parasites do that, like the Tape Worm. So, I don't really see the similarity as anything bad- and besides. Most TV shows, songs, books and ect aren't as original as we would like to think.

I know, I'm not saying they're ripping anyone off, I'm just saying the similarities are weird, because I have a strange feeling that the writer didn't read Godchild.
