It was a quiet night in the forest, as the moon shined down from above. The darkness, however, would not stay. In the center of the clearing there was a brief flash, and then an orb of silvery light appereaed, bobbing in place. It parted a moment, and there was a wet thunk, or something falling from it, and then it disappeared, though a slight silver glow stayed. It came from the blood of a man that was leaning against the tree where the orb had been, broken and bloody, his blood showing faint lines of lumanecent silver.

Taking up some of the blood on his fingers, he sketched symbols on his skin, and coughing, wispered. "Lady Moon. I invoke the power of yours that is locked in my blood. Carry my message to your nearest follower, whatever name they worship you by. I call for aid..." The symbols flared up to a brilliant silver, and then faded away, the magic consuming the blood as a bolt of silver shot out into the woods...

She wasn't ready to face it. Not this. Things had changed over the course of a single year, and she'd lost yet another lover to the annuls of history.

Yet this time it was worse. Far, far worse. She almost has to laugh at herself for how much more it hurts to know that the person she loves and has devoted herself to is still alive ... well, mostly ... but married someone else.

"Why didn't you wait for me, Lenore?" She hates feeling this way, unsure which of her emotions is the strongest. Self doubt, uncertainty, worry, anger, all fester and claw at her insides with their black talons. Most of all she's furious with herself for thinking so selfishly. What does this mean for their children? "Or will they consider themselves ours any longer? Oh gods ..."

If there was ever a time when she wanted to curl into a ball and give in to weeping, now was one of them. Yet she doesn't. She swallows the pain till it's little more than a lump in her throat and in her heart. She gets up from the love seat in the manor's living room and heads for the door. It's late at night, so everyone else is asleep. Everyone but her and Lenore. Lenore is upstairs with her ... her wife. Explaining things, no doubt. Eirnae doesn't want to think nor care about that. Her hand finds the knob of the door and turns it, and she feels the magics of the house part to let her leave the home she thought would be hers to share with Lenore and their children for the rest of their lives.

The night greets her, her Lady's moon just now rising. She feels the call to go to her circle, to dance for the moon whose light she's basking in, to dance for the goddess who healed her heart the first time it was shattered. She starts towards the path she'd now know even if blindfolded, she's walked it so many times. To her circle, to her release ...

She didn't see the light coming, not till it was too late. That's odd for her, this shadowdancer with reflexes like those of a cat. The silver glow strikes her in the side and quickly spreads, crackling like lightning over her skin till she's covered by it completely. She's blinded by it, instinctively closing her eyes to try and save them from the overwhelming brightness.

There's this feeling that's familiar and yet otherworldly that seeps into her as soon as she's surrounded by the silvery nimbus. Giving into it, she opens her mind, seeking to receive what she's suddenly certain is being sent from a divine source. Her Lady? Yes ... and no. It resonates with a portion of the energy she's felt from the entity she worships, and yet this is different in many ways. It's .. more urgent. Primal. Demanding. It needs something ...

"David?" Yes, she can picture him. Yet something is wrong. Her old friend's aura is skewed with blood smeared upon his skin. "What's happened to you?"

It's without thinking that she goes between worlds, slipping from one reality to another to enter the shadows that are between. She doesn't even notice the state of chaos about her as she walks as if in a daze, dodging whatever comes her way in that dark plane before she emerges not far from where David leans on his tree. She keeps walking, still illuminated by that light from within, looking as if a tattooed and leather wearing angel whose wings and halo are of moonbeams.

David was propped up against the tree, holding one hand to his torso that was surrounded by a feeble silver light, though the blood continued to flow from a multitude of wounds on his arms, legs, and body. He was wearing only a pair of boxers, and the tatters of a shirt. Looking up, he gave a feeble shakey smile, showing that one of the cuts on his face had split his lip.

"So it is time, and my lady has sent one of her Deva to fetch me home." He slumped a little, eyes half closing, hand dropping a little, showing the deeper cuts and gouges on his chest, some going down to the bone, they they slowly are closing, but not fast enough it seems.

Oh gods ... No, I'm not losing someone else. Not today, damnit! Not if I can help it!

Eirnae barely sees the light now, too focused on David's dire seeming condition to notice that it's become just a bit brighter about her, as if she were really the Deva that David mistook her for. Her well oiled leathers don't creak as she moves faster, in a hurry to get to him before he falls over. Her long hair brushes against what's exposed of his chest as an arm stronger than one would think from appearances winds about his waist, supporting him as her body prepares to act as a brace for his. That hair of hers gleams a purer gold now than it ever has, as if strands of the precious metal threaded with streaks of obsidian and sapphire wherever they have been dyed. Sea green eyes catch the glow of the moon's power and shine just as brilliantly, as does the blue crystal upon her brow.

She knows nothing but the fact that her friend is in pain and that she didn't bring anything with her that can save him. Her mind tears through facts as if hands quickly sorting through a rolodex. Shina's staying at Zero's place, so she can't get here in time. Lenore's with her wife, and gods only know how far from the Haven we are. I didn't bring any of my potions or wands with me. I have but my dagger in my boot. Damnit! That's only going to help if I wanted to end his pain by killing him!

"Lady, if only Calavel were here ... She's one of your clerics. Her healing hands could help him."

Feeling so helpless, she rests her forehead to one side of David's wound. She'll have to tear her outfit apart and bind him with the scraps. It's the only way to make sure he might survive the journey between planes in order to reach aid.

The aura about her brightens still more, and then feels as if a physical force as it suddenly rushes through the moon elf's body and into the gem that keeps her and Shina further bound together. It was a gift from Eilistraee, that gem, and now it serves as a conduit as a part of the magic hidden deep within the moon elf's blood is withdrawn and converted into life energy for the dying man. Light pours from that very gem and into David's chest, for a time looking more as if a fallen star trapped between the two less celestial bodies. This leaves the shadowdancer shuddering from the intensity of the transfer, leaning harder upon her friend than she'd intended as she tries to recover.

As the light struck him, his eyes flew open, glowing a pure silver, the same as the light that surrounded Eirnae, and he shifted to his other form, to the one granted to him by his Lady Moon. Claws dug into the sod as his back arched up off the tree, wings flowign out and surrounding the both of him. His wounds ran with molten silver fire as he blood flared to life, and it was as if they started to melt closed, accompanied by a sizzle and a slight smell of burning flesh.

It went on like this for several minutes, his canine face twisted in pain, but his eyes stayed open, staring at the moon. Eventually, the wounds were gone, and he fell back against the tree again, closing his eyes, breathing heavily, as if he'd just run 20 miles at a sprint. His head dropped to his chest, as if he didn't have the strength to lift it, and his wings stayed draped around himself and Eirnae, drooped as if a shawl.

Throughout it all she'd remained pressed against him, quivering like a leaf. All thought is stolen by the touch of the divine that drew her there like a moth to the flame. Her Lady Silverhair's presence is all around her, bathing her in her goddess's love. It's a balm that she willingly surrenders to, giving up the pain that's tried to take over every portion of her existence. She wants it gone, longing to only feel this blissful closeness with the deity she's devoted her worship to for so many years.

She doesn't fight against the surge that continues to pour from her long after David's wounds have healed. He's now wrapped in the silvery glow, leaving the moon elf sagging against him, her strength sapped by the overwhelming experience. Somehow words come as reality creeps back into her awareness. "My Lady ... save him ..."

She doesn't realize exactly what's occurred. Eirnae's far too frazzled to keep her eyes open for long, closing them as she tries instead to organize what's started to take form within her mind. A shaky hand jerks up, fingertips coming to rest where David's chest wound once mocked the worried moon elf. That's when she smiles softly. "You'll live ... Gods, I'm so tired ..."

There's a low rumble, and his eyes would slowly open. Giving another rumbling growl, an arm will come up, and a clawed hand will carefully wrap around her arm, pulling her into a one armed hug. He doesn't say anything, not yet, but his wings tuck back out of the way.

Blinking again, he'll tilt his head to one side. "Nae? Is that you? Or is this another dream?" He'll struggle to sit up, hissing in pain as he does so, biting his bottom lip.
