Well, hopefully I'm getting a parttime job at gamestop and was just wondering if you have any tips? Things that I should look out for or what not.
Or just discuss about working at game stores.

Kir-chan Well, hopefully I'm getting a parttime job at gamestop and was just wondering if you have any tips? Things that I should look out for or what not. Or just discuss about working at game stores. Good luck. I applied there, didn't get the job. They're picky...
I'm actually happy, though, because two weeks after that they were robbed...

Quote: Well, hopefully I'm getting a parttime job at gamestop and was just wondering if you have any tips? Things that I should look out for or what not. Good luck! Put your best foot forward and keep walking like that. Dress nice in the interview (but not over doing it); be cool when being asked questions; display your knowledge of video game products...show them that they need you! I hope you get the job. I'm sure they have some sort of discount. I was also talking to a fellow in Game Stop one day and he admitted them sometimes getting beta invites. Quote: Or just discuss about working at game stores. I've never worked in a game store before, although I've definitely applied for some. I thought it would be fun to work at a place like that. Unfortunately, one of my ex's did work at a Game Stop and that was his life. Sucked for me smile . Quote: I'm actually happy, though, because two weeks after that they were robbed... o_O. Wow.

My sister worked behind a counter at an ice cream place, so I have a little bit to tell about customer attention.
First, you will run across rude people. Never let them get you upset, be always polite, and if they're being obnoxious and you're polite, don't be afraid of kicking them from the store.
Second, as everyone in this guild knows well, male gamers can be often sexist. There are exceptions, of course, but some people start getting skeptical if they see a girl behind the counter. Once again, don't let that get you upset and show them you know something about videogames.
And third, don't subvert your store's policy just because somebody asked you to do it. It can cost your job.
With that in mind, I hope you have a good time at Gamestop. surprised

I've never had a bad experience from male gamers about my or my mom's gaming abilities. In fact, I've turned a few on in some cases. They look at me and think WTF? but then realize that I know more about some games than they do. Or have similar opinions not yet shared.
Have a game face (ha, cheap pun.) Customer service, even in a cool gamer environment like Game Stop can still be challenging. Just try to keep a level (ha) head. Really though.
Try to talk a little with the customers. I like when I can do that when I shop there.
And have recommendations related to what they're buying. I like that too.
And good luck. I've always thought it would be an awesome place to work for.

I agree with Nienna....definitely talk to your customers to see what they like. I know it helped me a ton when I worked at a video game store (not to mention it made it much easier to sell a game and/or accessory to them). Try to stay current with gaming news and system problems (and solutions) because you will have people come in that will ask about stuff like that. It can be hard to do, but it's not so bad once you get the hang of it.
You will notice that it's not the handful of spoiled kids that come into the store that are hard to deal with...it's their parents. Also, unfortunately, there will be people that will come in just to rial you up and make you lose your cool just because they see you're female and work in a video game store. Don't let them get to you. Kill them with kindness...it can be somewhat amusing to see them get mad that they aren't getting you upset smile . Another one to watch for is the perverts. If you get uncomfortable, by all means call someone or, if you're working with someone, have them come over to help. Nine times out of ten, that will make them go away.
Don't get me wrong though, working in a video game store can be very fun. As for the aforementioned "troublemakers," one gets that with any retail job. Those situations don't really happen that often (other than the snotty parents, lol).
Good luck getting the job and remember to have fun!
One other thing...don't forget that if you ever need any help or you just want to rant, we've got your back here biggrin .
