Yes I'm a very curious person. And I'm back with another question. Is being close-minded a good thing? Is blindly following something really good? Or can being open-minded help you in the long run? I just want your opinion on the matter. I've been curious on this matter for the longest time but never got to actually ask it. Don't flame me for asking, every human is curious, we are inquesitive creatures, asking questions helps us grow. Or that's my opinion anyways...

It's like Adam and Eve in the garden blissfully ignorant to all that might derail their happy life now when Eve shared the "forbidden fruit" (forbidden for the same reason a parent tells a child a pot is hot) with Adam the awoke from their blissful fairytale and saw the world as it really was (i.e. there was no garden) the knowledge they gained was gods gift to man (there are a few theories why god would create such things...I like the "god wants to know himself" theory) so if you only wish for a happy ignorant life then block it all out (I don't think anyone can block out everything and survive with total blinders...or maybe...idk) I would think its an all or nothing deal (not easy to do mind you that) oh and daily fun fact people who could be completely open minded people who found true balance were called holy way back in the day turn the clock back just a bit more and they were called virgins word evolution! Yay! interesting perspective on the story of Adam and Eve yes? what is really interesting is that it pre-dates the Bible (not that it means much) who is right...no one knows

A little Greek mythology never hurt anyone. But I agree that knowledge and science are God's gifts to us. Without them we would never have breakthroughs and people would still be dieing from bubonic plagues and polio. Both are still around but are weaker than what they were and we now have cures for both.

Love and hope, seems to be the only thing lef. Humanity is too afraid or too stupid (depending on which way you look at it) to open it up again for fear that another world apocloypse might come and kill us all. I don't remember why we sang "This little light of mine". I never knew it was a church song till you said something..O.o. I remember listening to it or watching it on Mr. Roger's...those were the good ol' days. ^__^. Before I moved away from my grandparents and became a bitter person thinking that humanity is too stupid to survive itself..^_____^.

If everyone blindly accepts whatever they are told, how will we as a civilization move forwards? Kant said, "Never do anything if you cannot make it a universal law". Are you okay with that?

Are you okay with that? I'm a very open-minded person. I have issues with close-minded people. I would rather have everyone think for themselves rather than have everyone blindly accept something...

You can be firm and unwavering in your belifs while still keeping an open mind I would say. I believe deep in my heart that Jesus is the only way to heaven and is my lord. Anyone is free to disagree and debate that with me and Im not going to put them down, Ill listen to them. You can hear someone out and admit they COULD be right about some things while still holding firm to what you believe. I believe the only way you can really be close minded in a bad way is if not not open to listening to other peoples points of views. And i dont believe faith is really blind...its only blind if you accept it for no good reason...If no evidence and nothing in your heart/mind tells you that is feesable or right. But as with me, ive been open to other ideas other possiblilites but Christianity, is still the way to me, the only way. And I have read evidence supporting that, seen it in other peoples lives and my own life and its ever supporting of my faith.

While this is a good attitude and it may work for you, it might not for others. If a "young" (recent) Christian hangs out with ppl who constantly challenge him about his faith (and try to get the "old, normal guy" back), he may have a difficult time dealing with it. I definitely agree with you about the part about believing after evidence and/or gut feelings. We must keep in mind there is a very diverse world out there. There are many different beliefs, each one very different from the other. In my opinion, too much "exposure" (or open-mindedness) to them, the harder it is to truly decide (or keep your faith) whose side you're on. My two cents. 3nodding domokun

Does it even matter if ignorance is bliss? Even if it's bliss, it's not the right way to go about things. Even though being unaware of certain things in this world is probably blissful, we cannot live and be connected to this world while we are unaware of them. We live in blissful ignorance every day, being shocked by atrocities like 9/11 when for some in this world death is a daily event.
As for the ignorance Adam and Eve had, I don't think ignorance is quite what they had. Ignorance and innocence are two different things.

I find it a little odd that you suggest that following God is being close-minded. Would it not apply the other way round? That refusing to believe in and therefore also not-following God is ignorant and close-minded? It really just depends on which side of the fence you stand.

Naw, I'd rather know things. I'm a big fan of science and I love learning about it. Learning how perfect things in this world work together only proves to me that God does exist. Why? Things fit together too perfectly for it to be random. 3nodding Curiosity is a good thing, knowledge is power.
