Have it? Want it? Sleep with it under your pillow every night? Let us know what you think of the new manga being released (2nd volume is out). Third volume is being released May 12, 2009. Be warned, many spoilers are discussed in the following posts. Now, how in the Underground can we find these precious things?!It has come to my attention that most Labyrinth and Bowie fans are having some trouble coming across their own copy of these volumes to claim as their own. If you fall into this category, have you.... 1) Checked your local bookstore? Your best bet would to bring your standard Labyrinth-navigating tube of bright red lipstick and a few pieces of plastic jewelery and head to the nearest big-chain bookstore. Marking your path with the lipstick every turn, wander around until you find the stacks of books under the category "MANGA" or "GRAPHIC NOVELS". Browse through the massive numbers of poorly-translated Japanese pop-literature (and resist the temptation to pick up the latest One Piece volume) until the R's are reached. There, your goal should be obtainable under the title "Return to Labyrinth". If it cannot be found, find the nearest native to the bookstore and bribe them with your plastic jewelery, asking if they have hidden the volumes in a hidden stash, or if they are able to obtain any for you in the near future (in which you can retrace your lipstick-marked path back to the location in which they are to be, unless the bookstore native informs you that you can find it at the specified time close to the front door at the service desk). *cough* Honestly, Borders has a policy where if they do not have a particular book in the store, they will special order it for you and have it to you within a week. Any longer than a week, and the book is free. 2) Considered paying shipping and handling for an online purchase? If so, click me.3) Held up a defenseless child for ransom, demanding a fresh-off-the-press copy of both volume 1 and 2? By the way, I seriously do not encourage such unlawful activities. Jareth would have rathered you wish the poor thing away to him.

I don't really like the whole theme of Toby taking over Jareth's throne...just makes me not want to read it because there's less of Jareth ^^;

Bluntly put, it's a horrible fanfiction in comic form. I did a review for this on TOKYOPOP's website and was agreed on that the cover art is horribly deceiving. You open it up and are hit with... under-quality work.
I haven't gotten the second volume as of yet; however, I'll keep my hopes up that the manga will improve with more interaction between Jareth and Sarah. (FYI: I didn't apopreciate how the creators made Jareth pose as a Toby's principle. It totally defied the movie's theme of secret watching/spying. stare )
(Is an outspoken booger-loo on the internet and occasional irl, so please, work with me here! whee )

I certainly agree that the cover art for the first volume is horribly deceiving (I also have not yet purchased the second volume as of yet... I'm waiting to save up an extra ten bucks for it). Yet I have to admit it was a very smart ploy to get so many people to pick up the volume and buy it. I have talked to some people who have bought it just for the cover art (rich bastards).
I know so many loyal Labyrinth fans have been waiting for the official JarethxSarah interactions, but I honestly like the direction the manga has gone. I have read nearly every type of angst and romance relationship between Jareth and Sarah on various fanfiction sites, and I'm honestly sick of it. I have always been curious as to how Toby fares after the whole adventure, and I love how the manga has spun off a few implied lines in the movie about how Jareth started to like Toby and the similarity in their eyes.
In short, I did not want a romance for the entirety of the manga. I'm glad I did not receive it.
Something else I did like.... the bird-hats things. I always wondered what the relationship between that old man and the bird-thing was in the movie. Now I have an explanation.
Politics were also introduced in the manga, something that seriously intrigues me. I have seen good speculations and bad speculations in the fanfictions, but now I have something solid to work off of when letting my imagination fly free in the Underground. There are other kingdoms in the Underground, and they want Jareth's throne for some odd reason or other.
I think I have rambled enough. I'll save the rest for later.
*wink*

AH HA! I have both volumes. The first one, i agree. They could've done way way better. The second one now, was much better. I have a feeling>^^<. And i'm not telling what cause it may spoil it. There is a bit of Jareth/Sarah this time around. And it'll deffinately deepin in the third volume! Over all, the 2nd book made me not want to wait for the 3rd but sadly, i must crying

Ahh, the manga. I have the second one winging its way to me as we speak and I must admit that I bought the first one out of curiosity and becasue the cover art was so good, it's a shame that what we got upon opening the book wasn't as good but live and learn.
I like the idea of finding out what happens to Toby (though the principal idea was a little too contrived) and I have to admit that I'm one of these "Jareth/Sarah" angst people that Javinus seems to dislike so much. I'm hoping that things will improve with the second one, but you will all be the first to know my thoughts as soon as I have them.

Vampiric Desires I had no idea they made it into a manga O.o I MUST FIND IT! Check your local Borders bookstore. If they don't have it on the shelf, request it for no extra charge (they guarantee it to arrive within a week, and if they can't get it in time, they give it to you free or half off, or something like that). They're usually ten American dollars a volume, so if you plan on getting both, budget 20 bucks for it.

I just had this really funny idea about Toby and Jareth's eyes being similar: Jareth planted his seed along the line of Sarah's family, thus making Toby an full-fledged heir to the throne. Lmao, it was just a random thought that came to me!
In all reality, because I was so disappointed, I haven't touched the first volume. It now sits in my closet by some dingy newspapers on 9/11.
Hm... now, if I haven't been paying attention, that's my fault, but why does Jareth have so much interest invested in Toby?

***WARNING: SPOILERS!!*** Do not read on if you do not wish to have the manga series spoiled! Jareth's time as King is coming to a close, so he needed to choose an heir to the throne. Being that he didn't win Sarah, he chose Toby instead.

SPOILER DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ VOLUME 2;
Now, in the second book, Toby is given a propechy that DOESN'T go in his or the one womens favor. It's pretty much saying that if Jareth and Sarah DO love each other, they can take the throne from Toby. The third volume should rap it up or, continue it. I have both, read both. Jareth gave the kingdom to Toby. Toby is going through lessons and Jareth has gone to vist Sarah. So yeah, it's piecing together actually.

I do like the manga, although I've only been able to get the 2nd one... they didn't have it at my bookstore OR at my library. It has a very different feel from the movie, but it's still good. That witch lady, I forget her name... I don't like her. >_< And her daughters or whatever really creep me out... they feel kind of out of place in that story. But other than that, I like it. Toby is great biggrin And what is up with those lizards?! xD
