User ImageIn a sense, he had claimed this forest.

How many days had he spent skulking silently through these dense woodlands? Tireless and eternally hungry, the Tyrant retraced his steps through the woods; mutated jaws gaped as his tongue probed mindlessly for a scent, any scent. The scent of those he hunted. Had he been a more intelligent creature, he would have questioned as to where they had gone, why he could not find them here. As it was, he only felt a deep-rooted frustration that gnawed relentlessly at his core, attempting to provoke him into doubling, tripling his efforts to seek and destroy. This fervor seemed to start the hunt anew, and the leather-clad monstrosity was scrupulous in his attention to anything that struck him as odd. The sickly sweet layer of dusted pink that clung stubbornly to his claws was something he had never encountered before.

It evoked as much perplexity as his warped mind could muster, and for several moments, the nightmare had scraped feet and boots alike through the stuff to try and reason with its true nature. It had done little but shimmer condescendingly at him, and the beast had swept it into his mouth and swallowed, cleaning his talons with an almost comical sort of satisfaction. Dismissing the powder as benign, despite the fact that it had somehow managed to swallow this entire forest without his knowledge, the beast moved onwards.

The sight of the craggy cavern brought a sense of familiarity to him, giving him enough reason to slow for a moment and observe. The deceased owner of the lair had settled well in his stomach a long time ago, while the 'chef' had taken the unfortunate bear's place. Tentacles throbbed through his body while the Nemesis contemplated for a moment more, and his tongue still tingled with the sugary taste of the pale dust. It was no longer quite so pleasurable, transforming into an itch that made him grunt with discomfort. Burning hot, it seemed to sweep through his entire body, and the Nightmare vaguely began to detect that something was wrong. He had been afflicted with something foreign, something that was making him react in strange, undesirable ways. It must be eliminated, before things grew even worse.

The explosive, resounding sneeze from the beast made the trees themselves quiver in terror, and he lifted his head some with a snort. The itching had gone. With insipid satisfaction, he lumbered forward into the clearing, not at all above violating unspoken rules of privacy to check if his quarry had not hidden itself away in the dark cavern.

User Image All he ever needed to be content was his privacy within his territory, a steady food supply, and a little bloodshed every now and then. If he was missing any one of those things, it could be ascertained that nothing about Auschwitz would be pleasant. As it happened, he was missing two at the moment.

It was the longest that he had ever waited before, and he was beginning to forget even why he was doing it. From within the cave, the sounds of pounding footsteps and scraping talons could be heard. There were scores of claw marks left along the cavern walls from where he had found displeasure in them earlier, bare bones that had been crushed and crushed down to fragments. This hunger was beginning to drive him mad, and not a soul had turned up at his doorstep with anything promising. He was so late, that b*****d.

Aus was in no way aware of what was going on outside with the pink dust. He rarely ventured too far from the smoke-soaked stench of his cave, preferring to rip apart or crush whatever had the misfortune to come too close. Lately, there had not been any of that, and the Nightmare was beginning to think it high time that he venture out on a hunt. Then he heard something loud from outside.

Had he not been expecting someone before his cave, Nemesis would have been greeted with teeth and hot ash. Instead, from within the cave there was an abrupt halt in the footsteps, and a gravelly, low bark. "Regime! Is that you, you lying sonovabitch?" Suddenly, the Nightmare appeared within the dim light of the cave mouth, his hackles raised and his tongue lashing the air viscously. He was not at all attractive in his anger, his face creased with his obvious tenseness. Like an angry serpent, he reared his head when he realized that the intruder was not the one he had been awaiting. This scent was not unfamiliar to him, and it was a Nightmare's, but he was in no real mood to deal with a stranger. That was strike three. His fur bristled in warning. "What do you want?" His mind was too far gone to remember right away that this was the one he dined with opening night of his territory.

To some lesser creature, the grating bellow would have been enough of a stimulus to flee rather than face the wrath of the irritable Nightmare. Nemesis merely lifted his head slightly, a deep, quivering grunt shifting in his chest to warn the other to keep away, if he knew what was good for him. He would not hesitate to lash out and keep the beast in his place, especially when the snaking hiss ripped through the tension-thickened sky. Silently, he widened his stance as he sought his unseen opponent, pinning his lone eye on the small form that pushed itself from the darkness. He would do what was necessary, be it a quick, violent tussle, a drawn-out death, or even just walking away unscathed should the other back down. The dead, milky eye brushed across the angry, bristling black body of the other, and the Nemesis suddenly stopped.

There was no threat here.

It was a curious, almost overwhelming sensation. His stubborn disposition had all but faded entirely upon seeing the crimson-ebony beast, replaced with the unsettling urge to simply grow docile. Accustomed to taking orders, he'd complied without thinking and now tilted his head at the snapping words that demanded he state his purpose. He had come seeking S.T.A.R.S., and now found himself utterly at a loss as to why he was here. Locating the elusive police force team was suddenly...unimportant. But this raging, spitting, spiteful creature had somehow become his utmost priority.

With a low, sickly rasp, the Nemesis announced himself in a wordless tongue and fell silent. His purpose was foreign, even to himself, so he could do little to explain it. However, he no longer had any intention of leaving. The big Nightmare shifted slightly from foot to foot, suddenly infused with an eagerness to do something for this raging other before him. He rumbled once more, allowing his thick jaws to grate against one another as he attempted to puzzle out the complexity of these new thoughts, and just what he could do to abate them.

"Speak up! I know you're there." Snarled the ash-streaked Nightmare. He'd heard the noises that the other had made earlier, the stretching of leather and deep grunts. It was definitely a part of his kind, but that certainly didn't mean that they were friends. "There's no food for you here- leave!" And when the other simply... rumbled at him. Well, that seemed to be the end of it. Was he not good enough for a sensible response? Not even a goddamn insult?

Fine, they'd speak in a different language, of teeth and claw and blood! Unaware of the intruder's disposition, and probably not giving a damn beside, Auschwitz shot free of the shadows of his cave like a savage dog that had just torn free of its leash. He'd chase the other off or meet them halfway. Usually in cases like this, his size and his ferocity was enough to send nearby lurkers running. If Nemesis stayed, however, he was was prepared to ram into him and fight. Threat? There was plenty of it here, at least for any normal kitsusagi.

Was he truly all there? A part of him had been banished, scattered from his mind no matter how savagely he groped to retrieve it. Bloodied, tattered ears picked up on the snarling statements and focused merely on the key contents within--food. Another muted rumble echoed on and on in his chest, even as he eyed the freely raging other rip free from the enclosure of his cave to pursue him. The Tyrant turned halfway and slowly lumbered off, indifferent to the damage that could be wrecked against his hinds as he slunk into the forest. He was apparently beating a not-so hasty retreat.

A few minutes would pass before a loud, terrified scream split through the groaning trees and ended. Someone's life had been taken. The Nemesis slowly pushed back into the clearing with an unsettling crunch of branches underfoot, something red dribbling from powerfully clenched jaws. He gingerly carried the moistened lump of fur and flesh while long limbs dangled uselessly now that its spine had been broken. A rabbit. Another grating sound stirred within his chest as the beast eyed the snarling, spitting Ausch. His thick neck stretched out a little before a jerk of his head sent the dead creature flopping in front of the other's clawed feet. He stood slient then, motionless and watching to see if he accomplished the task he had obviously been so expected to fufill.
