Alright, I don't think I've seen any other threads for this.
How many of you are in honor bands? Are you in more than one honor band? What do you think of music, other players, chair placements, etc?
I was in an honor band eighth grade year and I tried out for and made three this year. So far, I've only been to one of those - the next two are this month. I've found most of the music to be fairly easy, probably because we only have three days to work on it. But the other players make the music sound amazing. It makes me sad to go back to my band. We're not bad or anything, but we could never have that sound. 100 good musicians make the most amazing bands ever.

I totally agree! I was in the Honor Band and when I went back to my band it was REALLY sad! And we're(in my band) playing one of the songs from Honor Band and we LIKE... SUCK! Not all of us, I mean there are, individually, some really talented musicians in there, but some of us(TROMBONES and I'm not saying that all trombones suck, just ours!) aren't very good at all! So yeah... I LOVED Honor Band,(both years[out of two] that I made it) but it made me sad to return to my band! crying
Tis' the curse of being in a small band and making Honor Band!

i was in an honor band in November. i was one of the higher ranked chairs, and i'm in 7th grade and the other tromboners were 8th and 9th. yeah, i said tromboners.

I was in Honor band last month. I missed my band, though. About 40% of the honor band was from our school.

Aww, I'm sorry!
One of the schools around here is full of talented musicians. They have a really small band, but I think every one of them tries out for (and makes) most of the honor bands. My school's a minority at honor bands. There's only four of us in more than one (I think) and we have six we can try out for. Our next one, though, we have seven people in (in a band of 70 or something). I'm excited about that one - we won't be a minority anymore! Although I'm the only girl... That will be interesting.

i was in two last year, second chair in one, and in the other the trombones werent put in chairs. this year i made 1st in one, and i have auditions for another next week

I just got back from another honor band. I love honor bands! And I have another one next week.
Are most honor bands in February or is it just in my state?

Everything will be okay in the end; I've never gone before, but the only honor bands our school participates in are the AMIS international honor band (Jazz and regular) and it's really hard to get into because you're going against people from all over the world... and there are a ton of participating schools... I have an audition in like 3 weeks for Jazz... I'm screwed.
if it's not okay, then it's not the end.

I was in an honor band in January. It was a 6-8th and like 3/4 of it was sixth graders, so it was pretty bad. I never realized how bad sixth graders were until I wasn't one.
