So my Japanese class has presentations where we get to discuss a main Holiday or Festival. However, I don't know any!?! So I don't know where to begin. Can you guys do me a favor and help me out by naming a few and a breif summary of them. If there's a topic about this already, I'm really sorry, I couldn't find it. If there is, can you simply redirect me? Thanks a bunch.

You could do the Naked Festival biggrin

There are actually tons of different little festivals/holidays in Japan, but some fairly big ones include New Years, Hina Matsuri (March 3rd), Children's Day (May 5), and the coming of age ceremony.

Um...on the Winter Solstice you take a bath with a piece of citrus fruit.

There's also White Day...go look it up, I'm too lazy to explain it. ><

WHITE DAY!!! mrgreen

March 14, exactly 1 month after valentine's day.

In japan, V-day is different from US's V-day because in japan, a girl is to give a chocolate hand-made or bought, to any guy(s) she feels close to, but with no real sexual or romantic interest (though in modern days that has changed to where you can give friendship chocolates and lover chocolates).

then, one month later, aka white day, the men are to give women presents and gifts valued at three times what the girl gave them.

originally it was thought that the origins were of a marshmallow merchant suggesting men give women marshmallow gifts on this day, but other stories have stated it was a retun in white chocolates.

Either way, one commonality is women are often greatly pampered for those men who can't afford lavish gifts of material value.

In other words, if a girl gives an obligatory confectionary to a guy on v-day and a romantic chocolate to her lover at the same time, she'd get two gifts of very high value and be showered with affection.

Great custom if you want to guilt your man into being your b***h for the day. ^0^ and i have yet to hear any men complain about it either xDD

Remember kids, Hounen Matsuri celebrates fertility, NOT the penor itself. Also, don't freak when you see someone with a wang on their keychain

There's also something they call Golden Week. It happens sometime in May this year, and it's the week when the cherry blossoms bloom. They take off school and work just to picnic under and view all the cherry blossoms. At least, that's what I think it is. sweatdrop

I like the Tanabata Matsuri, that takes place ln the 7th day of the 7th month of each year.
That's when Orihime and his lover (I fogot the name ><) meet again...

If you want further explanations, I have a full 'lecture' on that ^^
