I donated my car to the local SPCA and signed up for a community car-share program called Zipcar. I understand they're in a few cities now, and it seems to be an excellent program. It will be a lot more eco-friendly for me not to have to lug my car all over the place because my city's parking situation is so bad! Now I can walk to work every day, and only take a car out when I really need it. Wo-hoo!!! heart

Woah! Looks cool! But wouldn't it be exactly the same just renting any other car (except for the holding the card up to the window and it unlocking part - that's really cool!! xd )?

You probably could get rid of your car and survive on rentals if you didn't drive very often. Zipcar is less expensive than a regular rental company, though, and you have more options to drive long distances with it (some rental companies won't let you take their cars out of state, for example). Zipcar also takes care of all car insurance, so you don't have to be insured, and there are tons of Zipcar parking lots around the city so where ever you are you can pick up a car near you (I have one within a block of my apartment, which is very convenient) and then drop it off on your way back. Actually, since I signed up I still haven't needed to use it- but that's even better. I've discovered an eco-friendly grocery down the block, and a few other grocery stores in the area for last-minute needs.
I haven't had to move my car or drive anywhere for about five days now! It's giving me a lot more time to catch up on my reading, which is good because several friends and family members gave me books for Christmas. heart And I'm getting more exercise walking to and from work each day. All in all, I am really very pleased with the way this is working out.
